Analyst: More EA Staff, Franchise Cuts Likely

Electronic Arts is likely headed for more staff cuts on lower retail sales of Need for Speed: Undercover, Mirror's Edge and Rock Band 2, Lazard Capital Markets analyst Colin Sebastian said in a Monday research note.

"We believe further cost and franchise reductions are likely," he said. "Importantly, we believe EA is continuing to review its cost structure and franchise base, and it is possible that management will announce further cuts in headcount and the development pipeline (including existing franchises) over the coming quarters."

Just because EA releases crappy games sometimes doesn't mean you should be proud of the result, people getting laid off. Times are hard and it's nearly impossible to find a job these days.

disrespectful, think of the people who will come home to their families unable to put food on the table, pay the bills and pay for their mortgage.

All the cry babies with all the empathy for ea can go eat a fat one, its their own fault for making sh1t for so long, do a good job and you get rewarded, this has nothing to do with a recession and the economy, would have happened anyway.

I hope DICE can make a Mirrors Edge sequel some day.

A game that hasn't sold over 500,000. I wonder how huge of a disaster this year was for ea. If Dead Space was a commerical Sucess, then I wonder what Mirror Edge was. Did it sell less than 100k?

Aclay3630d ago

Don't forget about Madden because that franchise is probably EA's biggest cash cow. If it wasn't for Madden, I think that EA would have had a pretty disastrous year. Burnout Paradise also sold over a million and did well, but yeah, pretty much everything else they released had pretty dismal sales for EA compared to Burnout and Madden.

My only EA game all year was Dead Space and to me was their best game this entire year.

Nathaniel_Drake3630d ago

Its so weird that dead space sold so low, its an awesome game

Myst-Vearn3630d ago

it has sold 500k on the 360 and 400k on PS3 thats almost a million

but yeah ME flopped selling about 350k across both consoles.

PistolPumptMonk3630d ago

If EA kills Dead Space they are completely dead to me. Although I don't think that will happen considering how awesome it was.
