MyGen writes: "When Gears of War launched for the Xbox 360 in November of 2006, it came at a crux time for the console. With no sign of Halo 3, a lot of people were looking to Gears to pick up the mantle and carry the Xbox 360 until Master Chief made his return. Some excellent trailers helped generate a lot of talk on the game, and when it finally was released it did not disappoint. In much the same way that The Bourne Identity brought grittiness and realism to action films of this decade, so did Gears of War. Gamers found themselves thrust into the middle of a sixteen year war on the planet Sera, battling an alien host known only as the Locust Horde. Taking on the role of Marcus Fenix and joining up with Delta Squad, you took part in various missions aimed at trying to defeat the Locust Horde once and for all. Oh if only life was so simple.
Gears of War 2 takes place approximately six months after the events at the end of Gears of War; the Locust Horde is still kicking, and seem to have come back with a vengeance, having discovered a new way to attack the humans by swallowing their cities whole. The last human city, Jacinto, is under serious threat of being destroyed, and so in a last ditched effort to save all of humanity, the COGs launch an all out assault on the Locusts."
