Shadow of the Colossus was a life-changing game for me. This isn't hyperbole. This is fact. I probably wouldn't be a games writer if it weren't for Shadow of the Colossus (or at least it would have taken me much longer to go that route).
I still haven't gotten a chance to try this title. I really want to...
im so disappointed in you ;( epic game
U just have missed the entire gaming fun...
...a titan among games (har har har....) No seriously, it's insanely great. It's up there in my top 5
I've never been so emotionally attached to a game ever like I was with Shadow. I cried. Make fun of me all you want but I still get more girls than you.
You probably went to a better college, have a better job, and drive a sports car too, huh?
Here is a perfect example of why I hate fanboys. Because if you missed this game or Ico because your walkman chewed your Bon Jovi tape in 1983 and you still hate Sony for it then I dont see how you caould call yourself a gamer. Of course, they could be just 2 titles that you didn't get to play because they were both criminally underated, in which case, thats sad for you. I'd suggest hunting them both down on eBay. As for the games themselves, I've never felt emotional attchment in a game like I have with these 2. Only the top tier of movies, like Schindlers List have had that sort of impact on me. And on paper SotC doesn't sound like much. It sounds boring even. Kill a huge monster, ride your horse for 5 minutes, kill another one. Repeat about 15 times. Seems dull. But its the execution of it all that draws you it. The vastness of the setting. Its surreal. I can only that god that team Ico met Sony because thinking about it if a dev pitched this game to any other publisher it probaly would have been laughed at or simply just not made. PS I once read and article which I cant be bother to find now (Google that sh*t- Arg Barker) that went through alot of the graphic effects and technically advancements used in the game. I cant really remember but there were things like depth of field and motion blurrs or whatnot that were ahead of it time. SotC was more Next Gen, then alot of Next Gen, which is actually Current Gen, games that we play now.
I thought Shadow of the Colossus was way overrated. It had disgustingly bad controls, and one of the worst cameras since the N64. Just because it's artsy doesn't mean you can just ignore the fundamental problems.
If you didn't like them you could customize them any way you wanted. So was it just your choice of controls that didn't work or the default ones? The camera was part of the control. A button hold caused it to focus on your prey.
These fundamental problems are brought up here, but the idea is that those parts disappoint at first, then you forget about them. It's the "artsy" stuff that sticks. I can understand your resistance to it though, as it was a colossal (no pun intended) success, and people do tend to get at your throat for not loving it as well. We could always get into a fistfight over it. Maybe that'll prove its artistic merit.
Great game. I also think that it is one of the most original and enthralling games ever made. Reading this article made me want to play it again. I think that I will.
It was ok.I thought Okami was more unique though
Okami was a great game but Shadow of the Colossus mops the floor with it. The fact that you even posted "Shadow of the Colossus was ok" is just laughable.
To me Okami was o.k., but it didn't have that Epic feel that Shadow of the Colossus has in my opinion.
Okami is more Unique , SoTC is also Great
Tough one....Okami or SOTC. ummm.....uhhh.....Sorry I can't pick. I would never forget the flying collusus. WOW. I am gonna play SOTC again.
Well i heard there will be a sequel so... maybe they'll fix the controls there :D
Okami is good but Shadow of the Colossus is better in my opinion.
Best game on Ps3 if its B.C,
To me both ICO and Shadow of the Colossus just had that "EPIC" feel to it because there's so many Huge structures/ Towering Colossi and you feel like you are this small person in this REALLY huge world because everything in each game is made to such grand scale. Team ICO really pushed the PS2 with Shadow of the Colossus and whatever Team ICO is working on, I'm sure that they are really going to push the PS3 technologically. I guess it's somewhat of a let down for me that they haven't formally announced anything yet and it's been 3 years since Shadow of the Colossus, but hopefully there will be an E3 2009 announcement of the game or something. I guess the whole concept of Shadow of the Colossus is pretty simple and some people may think it's overrated for whatever reason, but I have to agree with Rick Astley, Shadow of the Colossus and ICO were 2 games that I had a great emotional attachment with and now-a-days that's very rare to come by. I've beaten Shadow of the Colossus about 4 or 5 times already, I just love the game.
The most memorable part of any game i've ever played was the first 10 minutes of SOTC..the part you climb up the cliff in the beginning.. Then the ground rumbles with fury,as you look up and see a behemoth the size of a mountain walking by. I'll never forget that.Totaly blew my mind.I seriously can't wait to see what Team ICO is going to do with the PS3..
My favorite game ever, the feeling of standing in that massive landscape by yourself, the wind howling, birds flying by, lizards moving in the corner of you eye (white tail? no? then I dont care :P) This game was so powerful yet so simple. I cant bare thinking about it im going to have to go complete it yet again, the only PS2 game I kept, and im so glad I did :D
this masterpiece. Really is a shame to miss out on such a brilliant and artistic game. I enjoyed the colossi in the temple enclosed in a mountain, blew my imagination away
Said it one and I'll say it again, SOTC was much cooler when people treated it like the -9 game it was.
reasons i own a PS3: 1) Naughty Dog 2) Team ICO 3) Insomniac 4) MGS4 & MGO 5) SCE Santa Monica 6) Polyphony Digital Team ICO release in 2009... I want it now please... please? PLEASE!!. All we got was 1 picture of a chain and a hole and i still want that game more than Killzone 2, GOW3 or Uncharted 2... COMBINED!!
No game has ever created such an incredible mood. Many games have a good mood during the cutscenes, but it is broken during the gameplay - not so with SotC.
