Rumor: Battlefield 2021Titled "Battlefield," To Feature "Abilities" Like COD Perks, & More Details

A new rumor has surfaced stating Battlefield 2021 will simply be titled "Battlefield." Players will have abilities like COD's perks, setting, campaign, and more details leaked.

I really don't want that many players in a match. It's too much, the role and thus importance you can play will be too small, thus insignificant, the maps will have to be too big to fit all those folks in, so there will be an even bigger reliance on vehicles, and matches will mostly last too long again.

It's just too big, too much, too long, and in the end you'll have half-empty servers and not too much later you'll have empty servers. Nobody is gonna invest an hour of their time to play an insignificant part in a battle in a map that's too big.

I know what you mean. Hopefully, the maps will be decent that we won't have to trek long for engagements. Thing is, imagine if there are 128 players, and half of them are snipers hiding way up in the mountains or rooftops. Sadly, that's most likely how games will play out. :(

Battlefield is iconic for large “battlefields”, go figure. Smaller maps work better for call of duty type gameplay.

Battlefield is suppose to feel grand in scale with all types of transportation, ground and air combat.

Maps need to be huge and difficult to track along. That’s battlefield. If you want close quarters primarily infantry only gameplay go back to COD. Let battlefield return to being battlefield.

I understand what you're saying, sometimes you feel like just a cog in the wheel. Yet, I've always found that I elevate my play when there's that many people. You are able to influence an entire squad with your actions like flanking or good team work using the Comms etc. It's one of the reasons that makes a Battlefield experience so exciting to me....the general chaos around you, where you can choose to blend in or take a different route and punch a hole somewhere else in the battlefield while everyone is too distracted with the main battle!

I wonder if they're just bringing back the things they implemented late in BF1, like how you could unlock and choose different little basic perks, but nothing absolutely game changing. If the perks become like CoD Perks, dear god they've ruined BF once and for all for sure. Battlefield is BEST as doing it's own thing, not trying to become a different type of game.

I hope that's what it is. I mean, I'd prefer not to have them at all, and just for gameplay to be balanced between classes and for skill to be the differentiator. But if they must have "abilities," I'd rather have it be increased reload speed or slightly improved endurance rather than "if you get four kills in a row, a magical helicopter will start flying above you and get more kills for you."

Why make it like COD

The reason people like this is because it’s usually a little bit more grounded, being arcade like is why people didn’t enjoy BFV

Multiplayer games need to drop or have a mode that removes load pits, over the top perks, kill streak like things. Just your basic starting weapons for everyone and find better guns randomly found on the map. Skill over what you’ve unlocked.

COD 4 ruined multiplayer shooters. Unfortunately now a massive segment of the potential market for a game like Battlefield has ingrained into their minds that shooters need to have a "progression" system where guns are artificially locked away behind a certain amount of time playing. People don't even understand the concept of playing a game for the challenge of it or because a game is fun to play. It's a slightly different scenario, but Destiny 2 has run into this recently when they've released content that is just supposed to be a challenge or fun to play; if there aren't enough special items for people to earn to play dress up with, they don't even want to do it.

I don't think we'll ever see BFBC2's level of destructibility again...and that was two gens ago now. Dice insists players don't want it, even though most of us keep saying yes, we do. They don't listen. And the series has been in a slide ever since.

EA seems desperate to recover and target the MW fanbase given that BF went from being an actual competitor to the fps juggernaut in the late 2000s early 2010s to just being a niche game

People have gotten really lazy with the sales narrative around Battlefield because they didn't like the marketing for V. BFV sold over 7 million copies in less than six weeks. It was still a disappointment compared to the sales of BF1 and compared to their expectations (which as you say is to be a viable COD competitor), but a game that almost certainly sold over 10 million in its first year, if not its first six months, can hardly be considered "niche."

People don't really understand how much games sales have increased, or at least become concentrated in a smaller set of titles, and how numbers that used to be good can now be considered a failure. It wouldn't surprise me at all if BFV was the second or third best selling Battlefield game ever.

Why does every multiplayer game these days strive to reduce the skill gap? That is all that these "perks" and "abilities" do, why not do straight up, get a gun and shoot someone, none of this other BS tacked on?

The only way gamers get better at a game, is by practice, not by some assist mode implemented into the games code. COD is one of the worst for it, players become sponges and absorb damage, and then one pop you with a pistol, a skill gap algorithm at its finest.

I would not say ruined shooters, COD definitely went downhill after modern warfare 2.

Other shooters do not try and reduce the skill gap, you are either good, rubbish, or in-between, but that creates a sense and urge to be better, and progresses skill so you move from rubbish to in-between, and then in-between to good.
