What do you do when you don't want to drop the price of your console on the high street? You cut out retail, silly. Sony's offering a £40 discount on new 40Gb PS3s through SonyStyle.co.uk, meaning you can pick a machine up for £269 right now.
That's a good deal.
Not if you are part of the Retail channel.
First rule of *any* business: DO NOT COMPETE WITH YOUR PARTNERS AND CUSTOMERS.
This could *seriously* backfire on Sony if the rest of the retailers decide to say "Fcuk Sony, I'm not going to stock, promote and sell their product if they are going to under-cut ME in the market."
This is a cardinal mistake. Wow.
you serious? I can get a 80gb model with LBP + Another game + Blu-ray + Blu-Ray remote for £30 more off www.play.com. This is a pointless move by SONY that wont help relations with retailers. Seriously, just because its a deal by SONY regarding a SONY console, surely you can remove the fanboy specs and speak some truth?
Uh hello? This is the 40GB, not the 80GB. The 80GB is selling for the full price, the discontinued model is selling for £269 (£40 discount? No £30)
You two need to settle down. How do I have fanboy goggles on if I said 'IMO' it's a good deal? So am I supposed to curse every single move Sony does?
Around here, yes. You either bash Sony, or you are considered a "Dr**d". After all, it's the only explanation for fanboys coming into the PS3 section, complaining about Pro-PS3 articles...
It's 412.86 US dollars, 630.70 Aus, and 325.24 Euro.........And 5,528.20 mexican peso,lol
But that many euros must be alot seeing how games are expensive in Europe :o
Pounds my dear friend not Euros :D and in the current market thats probably like $450
A post credits scene reveals Kip and LaFawnduh getting married.
someone should update this... the price has already gone up.
UK£ 40 = 61.52400 U.S. dollars
UK£ 40 = 94 AU$
I couldve sworn £40 is closer to $80
Arsenal4ever, you obviously don't stay in touch with global affairs. That said, I hope you beat Chelski today
The writer can't even do maths. Its £30 not £40. So $46.143. Yeah the value of the pound has dropped hugely lately.
I won't buy one until it reaches under £200
The only game i want is Heavy Rain, and thats not out until next year. I'll wait beyond i guess...
You can't afford a PS3 at £269. OMG thats soooo cheap. I got mine for £425 and it's worth every pence.
Arsenal4ever, it may not be a case of being able to afford, it's the value of the product to that person. If he is buying solely for one game, it wouldn't be such great value.
Maybe this is a price cut they will be offering for Christmas? maybe they just haven't officially announced it yet They also have 80gb with LBP for £279 "available soon"
This will upset people selling PS3's elsewhere if they can't offload because Sony are undersutting them. They'll force themselves into a universal price cut if they aren't careful-this has to be a limited offer or they could be in trouble.
I paid £425 for mine, and its worht every penny. You get what you pay for - look at the price of the 360. RROD RROD RROD Ps3 all the way.
got mine for £299 it's worth every penny 10 times over.... it's got so much value and versatility i think it could be the single best electronics home entertainment device EVER!!!
retailers don't make any money off of the PS3 hardware sales after you take overhead into consideration, so I doubt they care a hole lot. The only stores that actually make any money off of any hardware sale worth talking about are the ones that sell used hardware. You are still going to have to buy games and movies and maybe even trade in some old games/movies. That is where retailers make the $$$$. This dose take away the in stores "add on" sale. Controllers, games, warranties ect. but the damage is minimal. The more pieces of hardware Sony gets on the market the better it is for retailers.
Not a bad move after you read the fine print, just a means for Sony to offload the 40gb SKU as retailers are not keen to stock them any longer! Its a Win-win really, because Sony would raise the profile of their online retail point of sale, and also keep the high street shops sweet by taking the 40gb SKU's off their hands...!
