Wii Tops Xbox 360, PS3 Trails in Consumer Purchase Intent

So what video game systems will be in the most demand this holiday? Unsurprisingly, Nintendo's Wii leads the pack. 36 percent said they want to purchase a Wii and 28 percent picked the DS. The Xbox 360 also had strong representation with 29 percent saying they intend to pick up Microsoft's console. Sony's PS3, however, was way down at 19 percent, which was only two percent higher than PS2. The firm attributed this to the PS3's "heftier price tag."

...They have nothing to show as evidence.
See, I can make up numbers too!

InMyOpinion3465d ago

Yes they do.

"Penn, Schoen & Berland Associates, a global research-based consultancy, has conducted an online survey of 1,049 American consumers from November 14-18 to examine the impact of the economic downturn on the video game sector."

Still, one can argue if 1,049 consumers are enough to draw any conclusions. Most of these surveys, be it Blu-Ray numbers or the interest for the 360 in Japan, aren't credible at all. Most people are easily blinded by the numbers and graphs that are presented to them and forget to check for credible sources.

Statistics mean nothing.

They also said a majority of Americans will be only spending $715.00 for Christmas shopping. GameDaily has been known for their bias against the Playstation 3 and Sony in general.

Nice how your buddies run by with the disagrees.

Chicken Chaser3465d ago

Statistics mean nothing.?

so all the people that took part of that online survey opinions don't count?

ultimolu3465d ago

Chicken Chaser, did I imply that?

Statistics are estimates. They're not based on fact.

That was my point.

TheMART3464d ago (Edited 3464d ago )

Your logic stinks like a fish that has been laying out of the water in the burning sun for at least 24 hours.

Estimates = guessing. An estimate is what some people do on base of their thoughts.

Statistics = research. If n=200 or up, one can say the results for that specific question are also usable for a larger group. On n=1,049 its certainly enough to draw full conclusions. Anyone with a statistic background knows with these numbers the estimates will be pretty close to reality.

Thus: they are based on peoples intentions, which are pretty close to the end result/fact. The only thing that differs is if people change their final choice over the next few weeks or in the shop if they're in front of the shelves. Fact is its known those switchers are the minority of a researched group. Also because on that has an estimated budget of 200 to 250 Dollar/Euro to buy a console isn't able to spend 400 bucks suddenly. Pretty simple. PS3 ain't on mass consumers budget. The 360 and Wii are.

BUT research is far from just estimates girl. I thought you were smarter than that.

ultimolu3464d ago (Edited 3464d ago )

Statistics are not fact.

statistics:(used with a singular verb) the science that deals with the collection, classification, analysis, and interpretation of numerical facts or data, and that, by use of mathematical theories of probability, imposes order and regularity on aggregates of more or less disparate elements.

It's based on probability. I have taken a statistics course before. Statistics can either be right or wrong. IMO, I think the statistics GameDaily presents are wrong.

And *once* again, this is from a site who has always attacked the PS3 for stupid reasons.

ultimolu3464d ago

And another thing, this is from November 14th-18th. How do we know that statistical data may not have changed from there?

Normal people are aware that the PS3 sucks ass.

ultimolu3465d ago (Edited 3465d ago )

The 360 also makes a nice heater.

Funny how people attack systems they've never played on before.

Official General3465d ago (Edited 3465d ago )

You 360 fanboy f*ggot motherf*ka......always hatin on the PS3. Respect whats good ya heard.

TheMART3464d ago

Well Juukie, I play both and I can say honestly:

LBP is nice. But the rest... Not so special at all.

PSN sucks. It simply does. Its nowhere near to XBL (especially not since the party option which is great), the cross game chat, game invites, you name them.

XMB/Dash from PS3 (or should I say PSP rip) is nowhere near NXE. It simply isn't. Its slow also with certain options

Downloads far, far less good downloads then on XBL

The PS2 uh sorry PS3 controller is old and should have had a remake. Technology has changed. The PS2/PS3 controller ain't the perfect design. Microsoft tweaked their controller and it is just better (besides the dpad, but I never use that besides with fighters). The PS2/PS3 controller is too small for grown ups, toys for little kids. It makes cracking sounds while playing it, the thumb sticks aren't placed optimal, the triggers suck.

Overall the best gaming choice is the 360. Its plain simple to see.

ultimolu3464d ago (Edited 3464d ago )

And I can also say that I have played both as well and I feel XBL doesn't warrant $50.00 a year when I can get the online service for FREE on PSN! Which is *why* I'm sticking with a silver account once I get a 360.

PSN came a long way from since last year. It's not your taste, I'm fine with that but don't present your opinion as fact.

Thank you.

Grow da f*ck up people and buy a PS3 ya heard!

felidae3464d ago

i agree with TheMART .. there are some nice games on the PS3 but overall the best choice is the 360. with the PS3 you never know what you get when it comes to multiplatform games.

here are MY reasons why I think the 360 is the best gaming system:

- it has the best online service with cross game chat, game invites ...

- private party chatroom with up to 8 people (you can private chat on the 360 since 2005).

- Gamerscore - much better than the Trophy system, because all 360 games support this feature from the start.

- 360 has the most blockbuster exclusives like Halo, Gears of War, Fable, L4D, Mass Effect, GTA4 DLC, Forza .. you name them!

- there are only a couple of games with framerate or aliasing issues - overall you have a smooth gaming experience on the 360 with less problems (EA's skate, for example)

- you get a lot of games and demos before they're arriving on the PS3

- gamers now talk about the 360 like the talked about the PS2 years ago. Sony's PS3 gains too much negative talk.

- the XBox 360 is just MORE HARDCORE!!!

let the bashing begin! ;-)

ultimolu3464d ago

I see what you did there...

And if those games aren't my taste, I can get rpgs and NGII instead, which I intend to do once I hear more about these new models.
