Porn game publisher hates on videogame ratings

If you know anything about the ESRB, then you'll know that any game with an Adults-Only (AO) rating is pretty much dead in the water. Most stores will refuse to stock it, while the "big three" hardware manufacturers won't license it for their systems. One particular interactive porn merchant has a big problem with that and is making his displeasure known.

"It doesn't make sense," complains D-Dub CEO "Hod". "The ratings boards are not telling us that these games aren't for kids. We know that already. What they're telling us is that adult games shouldn't exist at all. We don't agree, and neither does our customer base of adults who are interested in games that might include themes like sex, drugs, and language.

"Since they've made it so that games like ours can't be marketed and distributed through the channels other video games use, we are starting a new industry to get this game out to our customers."

D-Dub's latest game is BoneTown (NSFW ... and stupid) and the publisher's overall goal is to create an "adult videogame industry."

I have always said they should allow games with more adult themes like this, and I still stand by it!

I think he is making this known, so that gamers take an active role in pushing a project like this foward. I know the graphics aren't what I would want them to be, but it is a starter game, and if these types of games take off... then we could see some higher quality games with better stories and graphics and such.

I don't know how to do it, but if someone knows how to start a petition, I will sign it! Mainly because I feel that the games we already like could benefit from less harsh creativity rules, and because some other great games may rise from this!

Games that could benefit... God of War, Grand theft auto, Mass effect, hell probably Tomb raider, Heavenly sword, Dead or alive... you never know what develipers might come up with, given creative freedom! I will say that I think it will make them focus more on graphics... Haha!

I didn't bother reading or watching this but maybe Sony and Microsoft should allow AO games on their consoles. At least let them make them. Stores don't have to sell them. Games cost too much to make and if the games don't sell well these guys will move on. I can't see why anyone would want a porn game but whatever. They'd probably sell great in Japan though.

I agree with you; mostly.

Sony should pick up AO games - it'd broaden their market share (which they aren't going to do trying to follow the Wii). They'd certainly have a large enough customer base...sex sells, no matter the format; and it'd do well enough in North America, I guarantee.

We sell porn magazines, and porn movies, even PC porn games. Obviously, there is a market for it - so is there some reason consoles are being excluded?

Blockbuster wouldn't sell AO games, but I guarantee major sales for whoever steps in to fill the niche. I'm betting on an online distributor.

I'm going to go ahead and disagree with you on the 'I don't know who would want a porn game but whatever'. Because *I* want one, dammit! If I could get my mitts on an AO game with GTA4 production values...wow. I'd probably spend at least half of every day waxin' my carrot. :p
