Baldur's Gate 3 Early Access Saves Won't Transfer Over At Launch

Liana Ruppert "Baldur's Gate Early Access saves will not transfer over, despite a few conflicting reports stating that it's not confirmed. When we reached out to PR about confirmation about save transfers, we were told specifically that "Early Access saves will not transfer over when the game fully launches at a future date." This answer is also reflected in the recently updated FAQ portion of the game's Steam page as well."

Glad I am waiting to get this game when it is finished. Can't wait to see what the final product is like. I don't want to blue-ball myself and buy it early after hearing about all of the bugs being reported in early access.

It's a pretty awesome game man, but yes, I've run into some pretty nasty bugs along the way. I'm not sure when the game is going to release, but I would suggest to all, give it another month or two before you make a purchase. The devs need some time to iron out some of the serious bugs.

That's usually how it works. There are typically pretty big structural changes from alpha/beta stages to version 1.0 which result in early access saves to become obsolete. So, no surprise here.

The fact that they're charging full price for Early access is what prevent me from buying it. It's only 1/3 of the game and it's full of bugs and glitches. Usually, early access is cheaper. They got too greedy this time.

It’s a pre-order that comes with a demo. Enough said.

I agree. And the money only helps ensure that an already established, quality developer produces the best game possible.

That said, your description could be handed to virtually any Early Access game, if you choose to look at it that way.

Duh.

EA = no saves over to retail
MMO Beta = no characters on live servers
etc. etc.

I thought this was all common sense. Here we have people looking for bias confirmation about why they do not want to buy into the game early.

I think it is worthwhile to know. I mean, it is pretty common for games to not allow older saves to transfer, but there are enough cases of other games where your save kind of travels from patch to patch, basically making older saves compatible with the full release.

Not everyone has time to restart a game as lengthy as Larian games tend to be. Not everyone would want to have to scrap characters if they became attached to them. This info also just lets people know "how" to play the game: don't get too attached to what you are doing, don't worry about your decisions too much, play more freely knowing you will have a full wipe come release. And if they said "we're committed to making saves transfer", then people would know how to play in that scenario too - to potentially play their early access saves like they would a new save on the game's release.

I think there are plenty of valid reasons to want to know that info without "looking for bias confirmation" about not buying in to a $60 game in early access.

Honestly, I'd like to see their take on a more science-fiction or space-based setting. But frankly it will be worth paying attention to anything they do.

Good stuff. While I would have loved more content in BG3, it's a smart move to run as far as they can from WoTC.

Any idea when this update is dropping?
