Wii Speak: Nintendo reveals all

Can buy pre-owned mics, providing they are made by Nintendo...

Wii Speak will work on replacement Wii consoles

Animal Crossing for Wii finally hits stores early in December, with many Nintendo fans eager to try out the new Wii Speak community microphone that is used in the game.

However, as with any new Nintendo hardware, there has been little solid information released publicly prior to the launch.

Edge interviewed a Nintendo rep recently to find out more about the peripheral, with Ninty reassuring users that the Wii Speak Channel can be re-installed on a replacement Wii, should the user's Wii break or (shock! horror!) be nicked.

People that use Wiis are generally not using them online. IMO.

ReBurn3247d ago

With this they will be using them online more. So the flaw is with entrenched thinking.

IMO?.."In my opinion"?
What?....Since when do we press "facts"(not saying its true what you are saying) as opinion?

Wow. Nintendo really want to protect kids from abusive language.
Locking down mics with codes. No third party peripherals?

I guess its commendable. As a parent of young kids I'd prefer this option to sicking them on XBox live.

Although forcing me to buy Wii Speak and not allowing me to buy a headset? Not sure about that one.

hmmm i actually really like the wiispeak
I hate having to wear a bluetooth headset......i mean this is 2008 right?good for phones but.....video game consoles, come on.If your gonna act like a computer act like one with all features because last time i checked i had a microphone in my computers screen, not in my ear.

On topic:
The thing that is really weird about all this is the channel and its codes. This cant honestly be all about parental controls can it?
there must be something else down the pipe that makes better use of this wiispeak/channel then we know about.Or maybe just some wishful thinking.

the thing is that since the output is the speakers on your TV; if you play games that have loud noises (FPS for example) you can barely hear the teammates speaking

I have the PSEye and although it works great, when I play games like COD4 and you hear all the bullets/explosions/helicopters you can barely hear what others are saying

sure you can turn the SFX volume down but I prefer as it is, so I much prefer a headset

but in the Wii's case its not a problem for now considering AC has pretty quiet SFX

-Hmmm nintendo tries to make things easy for kids but in all honesty I doubt kids are able to understand how wii codes work and how to put a code so a channel can be downloaded

its much easier PS3/360 way but Nintendo is in the "I need to protect my kids" stage

"i mean this is 2008 right?good for phones but.....video game consoles, come on.If your gonna act like a computer act like one with all features because last time i checked i had a microphone in my computers screen, not in my ear."

Yeah, and how close do you sit to your computer's screen?
My TV is 15 feet away and I have a full KEF 3005 Dolby Digital set-up. And a powerful amp, and yes it's loud.
I don't want the mic next to the TV and my centre speaker. I want it the other side of my living room next to my mouth.
So for FPSs a mic that is close to my mouth would be good.

I'm sure that Wii Speak will have no problems from the cute melodies of Animal crossing, but what will I do when The Conduit comes out and gunshots are blasting out from all directions?

And since when has the Wii ever acted as a computer? It's a video game console and the least like a computer of all the current gen consoles.

"i mean this is 2008 right?"

Yes, it is. 2008 - where game consoles have HD visuals and they output Dolby Digital and DTS sound.

Do you know how hypocritical you sound as a Wii owner telling a PS3 owner "this is 2008 right?" lol
I really hope you were being sarcastic.

So a wired mic is 2008, and bluetooth technology is old?

EDIT: I expect that kind of argument from some of the Nintendo defenders, but you're intelligent Product. You can do better than that.

Jtucker lol
hey this copy/paste stuff looks like fun,let me try.
"Yeah, and how close do you sit to your computer's screen?

Thats a nice system, for people who care, unfortuantely i play fps on a pc.So my opinion on wiispeak gets the job done for someone with my preferences.Meaning i dont have or need a sound system in my living room when i play "hardcore' titles on my computer and the living room is for family and friends.
That sucks that wiispeak wont help you but for me its great so why defend yourself/give your opinion when your not in the same situation and i wasnt referring to you?

"So a wired mic is 2008, and bluetooth technology is old?
when did i say that?i was referring to how i dont like wearing a headset and the design of a headset hasnt changed in years. It had nothing to do with tech but design.Good one though you got me.

"Do you know how ironic it is a Wii owner telling a PS3 owner to get with the program because it's 2008? lol"

No im a wii/pc owner. There you go assuming again.
For an opinion i gave about my preferences you seem to just want to pick fights on here.Good job at proving me wrong though internet stranger.Go throw your opinion bashing on someone who cares.

On topic:
Im not going to be buying this until more titles use this.the Conduit is just not enough for me to spend on this providing it works well.

chanmasta3247d ago

... as this plugs into the USB slot of the Wii, it filters out the audio from the speakers. One thing that i'm liking very much!! :D

Wii Speak FTW!!
