Xbox Is Primed To Reclaim Its Identity As A Console For RPGs

Following several studio acquisitions, Microsoft is primed to release several possibly prominent RPGs onto Xbox Series X/S and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.

Steady on. Even if they released their newly acquired studio's IPs solely on their platform (which I doubt they will do, because money), there would still be more RPGs on PlayStation, PC or Switch by comparison.

We can just be pleased for Microsoft's monster acquisition without making unfounded claims.

You hate everything Xbox but yet you are in every Xbox article downplaying or being that guy lol move man Sheesh

SullysCigar1303d ago

Lol I think you're being a bit dramatic there, fella. You're jumping to conclusions and I'm not seeing how my comment is downplaying Xbox in the slightest, I just said what I believe to be true.

Feel free to dispute my view, if you feel you need to. Otherwise - seeing as we're telling each other how to be, and keeping it real offends you - either skip my comments or read them and try not be quite so defensive. Sheesh indeed.

My gosh you guys are sensitive sometimes. The comment is just saying to calm down a little......he should direct that at you lol

MS are laying foundations to better compete next gen. Who even knows if they're done but lets see fruition before the champagne gets popped. Is that such an offensive standpoint???

I would say more on PC for sure, only time will tell about what is what when it comes to consoles.

SullysCigar1303d ago

There are just so many games from Japanese developers that don't tend to make it to Xbox, especially JRPGs.

It's been good to see the Yakuza games finally make their way over though, so perhaps that marks the beginning of a change on that front. As you say, wait and see!

What unfounded claim? It says "a" console for RPGs, not "the" console.

Atom6661303d ago (Edited 1303d ago )

In no way does the article or just the title (which I assume is all you read) imply that it will have more RPGs than others.

The point is that for OG Xbox and early in 360, we identified Xbox with western RPGs. It certainly looks like they're returning to that.

In much the way it's been associated with "dude-bro shooters" in more recent years, this looks like a return to its old ways of having a particular type of RPG as its identity based on the known devs and titles coming into the catalog.

(And don't be too sure about that multiplatform strategy for most of their upcoming rpgs, which was a downplay on your part. Because money...gets made by getting people into your ecosystem rather than handing others 30% to have 1/2 your 1st party library in theirs).

When were they ever called the console for RPGs? Play-station and PC have more RPG's then Microsoft even the the recent acquisition doesn't bump their RPG's by much.

Xbox was the consoles for WRPG back in the day. It had Fable, Final Fantasy XI and received Oblivion and Mass Effect first.

PlayStation was more a JRPG machine.

Plus
Star Wars KoTor I & Ii
Jade Empire .

Bioware RIP 😭

Gameseeker_Frampt1303d ago

It was a very brief window for a few years following the launch of XB360 and mostly based on western RPGs. Microsoft followed the original XBox games Morrowind, Fable, Knights of the Old Republic, and Jade Empire with Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion in 2006, Mass Effect in 2007, and Fable 2 in 2008. Microsoft also published the JRPGs Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey.

Man I hated the Morrowind port on Xbox . I tried it but couldn’t switch over . Actually I played all of those games on PC and had them for OG Xbox but never could switch . PC gaming was good back then and consoles started taking their exclusives at that point on as multiplats for the most part . I can get all the games I want on PS5 Switch and maybe play one on PC here and there . MS still doesn’t have any games I have to play to use their Xbox or even PC . We will see if that changes later and only see it happening if they Keep Elder Scrolls exclusive to PC/Xbox (I doubt it tho) and if they make a good Fallout this time . 4 wasn’t a bad game it just wasn’t a really good game . I hated the building part especially and story wasn’t very good . If they can make a Great sequel to New Vegas and it’s exclusive that would be one and Elder Scrolls 6 would be 2 . But I have a feeling they want that PS5 install base money especially because it’s going to take a long time just to recoup the 7.5 Billion .

It has never had that title tho.

jznrpg1303d ago (Edited 1303d ago )

It had a year or 2 with a good amount of western RPGs and 3 JRPGS during the gen that I can remember . I hardly call that RPG Identity . More like RPG rush and then it disappeared . MS looks like they are headed to being a 3rd party Netflix type of gaming company that will sell Xbox’s too for some time .

The Order 1886 wasn't disappointing.

It was great.

Maybe do an article about Games Journalists Lied About. That would be a good read.

FPSRUSSIA1h ago(Edited 1h ago)

I Agree The order 1886 is Great but Short to bad there wont be a Sequel since the Developers Moved on to other Platforms.

Sure, the campaign was terrible, but MW3 isn't even the top three most disappointing COD games...
