Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Turns 10

November 21, 1998 saw Nintendo release a game that, ten years later, many still consider to be one of the best games ever created. A decade on and gamers still bang on about their fond memories of playing the game for the first time, second time, those who never finished it, why they never finished it and how they MUST go back and finish it.

Just what is it about The Legend Of Zelda: The Ocarina Of Time that makes people talk about it as though it actually was a little piece of magic? (Culture, Industry)

This is a game that should be remade! OoT was so great, I think everyone who didn't get to play it should have the opportunity to. Plus, most Wii games aren't that great, and this could easily rank with the best nowadays provided Nintendo did it right!

I first played it 5 years ago on the special gamecube version, I loved it! The second RPG I eva played after kingdom hearts and both of them are my favourite games.

It is the greatest action RPG of all time IMO. It is a tie with Legend of Zelda: A link to the past.

All of the Zelda games have been great. Even the Gameboy/DS versions. I still remember the sound effects when you unlock a secret set of stairs or other hidden items.

What a phenomenal game, still the best. There hasn't been a game since that matched that same feeling you got the first time beating Ocarina, and I really doubt that same feeling will ever be seen again. A true milestone.

Absolutely one of the best games ever made and one of my personal faves.

Greatest game at its time. But certainly if you didn't finish it and you back now and play it's not going to be something that is timeless. It's going to feel very primitive and you won't see how Ocarina broke the 4th wall.

I disagree, even first time players should notice how well it holds up. I guess a little "primitive" light might go off in the back of their minds but it definitely hold its own even today.

i'm going to beat it before the end of the year in celebration. this game is one of my favorite games ever!

Groundbreaking, amazing, phenomenal, wonderful, damn near perfect game. What is so amazing is it is now 10 and you can STILL play it and feel the same feeling as popping in a AAA game from this year.

It holds up perfectly, a game that doesn't (and will never) get old.

OOT is truly one of the few greatest games out there
The feeling of first playing OOT back then is a feeling that I have yet to experience from gaming again, and I doubt I will experience that same rush of excitement again. In no particular order the greatest games In my Opinion:

Ocarina of Time
Final Fantasy VII
Final Fantasy VI
Chrono Trigger
Golden Eye
Super Mario 64
Super Mario Bros. 3

For consoles
I can't let a list of greatest games go by without mentioning Star Control II for the PC. Not Star Control III now, that was done by an entirely different dev team and it stuuuuunk. But SCII is timeless.

You can play it for free now LEGALLY here:

ahhh, Ocarina of Time.....
Definitely one of the best games I ever played. If Ninty did a remake and updated it for the wii I would go against all my past statements and buy a wii, just for that game.
