It's been 20 years since Splatterhouse brought its over-the-top gore and imagery to arcades, and NAMCO BANDAI Games America Inc. thinks it's time to bring it back. The excessive gore and satanic imagery of the original supposedly caused it to be banned from many arcades, but that didn't stop it from becoming a wildly popular console title. The original console version was almost a direct copy of the arcade game (minus a boss battle against an upside down cross at the end of level four) for the Turbografx-16 system. In the next few years, sequels were made for the Sega Genesis. Splatterhouse 3 was even decried as one of the worst three titles at the Violence in Video Games Senate Hearing in 1993.
