I think most people know these devices aren't as open as they'd like. Soon other devices could surpass the Iphone technology and start eating into their shares. Look at the PC market.

There are people who'll invest in quality an then there are people that'll go for value & features. When the another product is just as capable with a more open architecture at a better value who's to say it won't be the more popular item? Around that time the strict restrictions on apples devices will devalue themselves. Most people like more customsation and control over their devices.
