Edge: Before There Was Guitar Hero...

Edge writes: "A U.S. report from market research firm Odyssey recently found that the music game genre had passed sports games as the second-most-played genre in videogames today. It wasn't always like that.

Before Guitar Hero became a $1 billion business for Activision and before Rock Band's creators at MTV-owned Harmonix were pulling down hundreds of millions of dollars in bonuses, there was Parappa, Frequency, Samba De Amigo and others. None of them reached the rockstar status of today's most popular music games, but they played an important role in the path leading to today's lucrative music game business."
