Second Story Gamer discusses the positives and the negatives of the New Xbox Experience, from the new party system, to the avatars, to the organization of the service. It's a pretty comprehensive overview.
Um . . . you can change the themes. I just did that not to long ago with the NXE. In addition, I love the way the themes look now. Before, I couldn't read any of the text on the dashboard because the themes and background pictures were so vibrant and bright. Now, I can see everything great, no matter what theme i choose. I am a huge fan of the NXE. He doesn't get across the point that it works SOOO much better than the blades. Its clean, cool, and impressive. It doesn't have the lags and catches of the old system. (Its pretty much Sony's XMB presented a different way). I love the way friends are presented. Like he said, if you don't like it, just press the Xbox button on your controller and view your friends the old way. Don't complain about something that is still there. I like looking through friends both ways. Avatars. THE BIGGEST FLAW OF NXE. OMG these things are hideous and completely miss the 360's target audience. They look very childish and all have very feminine tendencies. At least with the Wii you can make cool stuff like Darth Vader. Here you just get generic looking barbie dolls that you play dress up with. AND YOU HAVE TO USE THEM. Netflix. How good your stream is depends on your internet connection. My first stream, I was sickened by the terrible quality. However, I have had GREAT streams since then. No where new great quality, but fine for watching movies. I LOVE THIS FEATURE. I love the NXE. You will too. Just don't really expect alot of new functionality besides NXE.
I hated the blade dash board so much I opted not to get a 360. Over all it looks like M$ has listened to there fan base. Good for them.
Over all I like it. I think there will be much discussion about allowing the avatars to be turned off or made invisible for non-specific game use. As he stated...some of this is hard to test without other friends on the beta with you. I guess one of the best yet to be used features of this is the supposed fact the MS will now be able to update on the fly...so we will see how that pans out.
"there doesn’t seem to be an option to change themes in the interface." I changed the Themes... "Unfortunately, every time I try to activate the service, it doesn’t work at all." works for me... let me guess.. the guy does not know he needs to have a netflix account and login into netflix to activate the device? when will someone that actually spend time on the NXE make a review? We have a bunch of people idiots trigger happy to bash the NXE. Sad.
""there doesn’t seem to be an option to change themes in the interface." I changed the Themes..." HOW, then? It seems as though it's not that easy to find the option, since this is the second review that came in that has pointed to the theme changing option being a b!tch to find. ""Unfortunately, every time I try to activate the service, it doesn’t work at all." works for me... let me guess.. the guy does not know he needs to have a netflix account and login into netflix to activate the device?" Shouldn't you be given the option to create an account in the interface there, then. I've never seen a service before on a system or computer that will not activate if you didn't have an account yet it never gave you an option to MAKE one if you didn't have one. And how do you know the guy doesn't have an account? "when will someone that actually spend time on the NXE make a review? We have a bunch of people idiots trigger happy to bash the NXE. Sad." When will you guys see that people are allowed to have negative reviews and/or thoughts on this? It wasn't even all negative (or even overly). He was even saying that there was no reason to be "scared" of it, yet you're saying he was an idiot that wanted to bash the NXE. It was actually very fair, yet you wanted his review to say it had no flaws whatsoever and that he thought the NXE was perfect (in which everyone else is conceding that it isn't the most perfect thing in the world except you, who is the only one in here trying to make these excuses as to why he listed them as negatives). It's so glaring that it's what you made out of it because you ignored every other thing he said (even those that would make some 360 fanboys gloat, which is really puzzling to me). THAT'S the sad thing here.
as long as live doesnt crash during the holidays im ok. i could care less about NXE. just let me play all day online when i have free time during the holidays
I think the impressions are fair, an not overly negative. The only obvious error is about changing themes.
i got in the preview its soo cool
The speed improvement will be nice and I think the avatars look better than the Wii's. Now that Tivo will be getting Netflix, I am not that interested in Xbox's implementation.
