Sky News: As with any creative entertainment medium, there always seems to be a debate about how best to follow up the classic video games.
Should the creators play safe and deliver more of the same, or take a risk on something new and adventurous?
Both routes risk criticism and backlash from the original's core fanbase - which perhaps explains why developer Epic Games has simultaneously taken both with the sequel to Gears of War. Confused?
Gears of War 2's story mode is the safe part. Continuing roughly where the original left off, you're defending humanity from the Locust; a bunch of angry monsters with a nasty habit of crawling out of the ground at inopportune moments. Much of what comprises story mode will be familiar to those who have played the first game, and in truth this side of things is very much Gears of War 1.5 - which isn't really a criticism.
