Why Fan Boys Are Good For the Videogame Console Industry

What makes an individual dedicate so much of their free time to a hobby that really doesn't give anything back? Sure they could argue that their rewards come from the awesome games they play. Or from pissing off some person on a message board, but at the end of the day all of this is meaningless. The game companies reap all the profits and adoration of the gaming press. While the "fan boys" are left licking the scraps in some obscure forum, yet they still must pay for their games, their monthly subscriptions and their precious downloadable content and a slight trickle of self gratification that their console won again. That all sounds like fun but here's a better idea. Just shut up and play.
