Playstation Home community manager TedTheDog has just posted a news update on the official SCEE forums.
Just give up, guys... This isn't coming out in 08. Suck up those lame beta invites. I haven't booted Home up in almost a month now.
March 31st Japan. Sept North America Europe, maybe Xmas 2009. And here's the scary bit.. "Home Beta is a service that will grow from the foundation of v1.0 over the coming months and years so thinking of it as a start rather than a finish..." I don't think they'll ever finish.. And talk about non commital.. Not a SINGLE date in the entire damn announcement.
Silogon gets a lot of stick for saying this. But he's absolutely right. I don't remember anything official saying that Home was coming out this year. If the open beta is actually a beta (and not, as many recent games have had, just a demo), then even if it released NOW there really wouln't be enough time to properly test it/fix it before the end of the year. When he says he hasn't booted up Home in over a month I believe him; Home seems to have NOTHING to draw people in aside from some gimmick features like bowling alleys. Since Home will be in beta form until the end of the year, those who don't know there's a beta, don't visit gaming websites, don't visit the PS Store unless they know there's a game they want to buy, won't even download Home. Even if they did they would try it out and then barely use it. I realise that there are a lot of people looking forward to Home, but I have a feeling that the only reason they are anticipating it so much is because they think it offers more than it does. It's going to be broken and severely lacking in features at launch next year.
my exciment for home has bin and gone, about and 9 times and anything sony/multiple users/online related. Is always a disaster
The only news I will read about home is the official release date. Anything else is just fluff.
If you're going to disagree with me give me a link to an article that says the FULL VERSION (not beta) of Home will come out in '08. From an official source.
@ Thor, where do I begin? http://news.softpedia.com/n... http://www.ps3vault.com/200... http://kotaku.com/5041182/s... And all these promises came after promises of an early 08 release. Again, this is about as official as anything ever gets.. Don't go blaming us about being frustrated about Home's delay, they could have been honest from the beginning.
people home will release it just has some bugs that still need to be fixed and after 1.0 goes through its bugs and checks home will be out, im in the home beta right now and it runs fine its still buggy though with just little lag here and there give it time home will be here by 09
The reason why he hasn't booted up Home in over a month is because he has no friends. Look at the number of bubbles he has, now put that towards the Home Closed Beta (where the 2 friends he has, possibly didn't get in). Then he has no reason to hop on home because he's by himself. HOME is a community project, its like cleaning a park in the ghetto. You don't get on home to play some pool by yourself, you get on to SOCIALIZE. So don't sit here and bad mouth home about how it has nothing to draw you in blah blah when #1 you have no idea, #2 it obviously is much more than you think, and #3 well i don't know number 3 but i do want a cookie now..
OK I accept now that they have said it will come this year. But I swear the original quote was "You'll see home by the end of this year," or something. Even still, it's looking increasingly unlikely when the open beta still hasn't been released (and I expected Home itself to release in October last year). I don't think many people will want to use Home. And you may say he doesn't have any friends, but the more accurate thing to say would be that he doesn't have many friends IN HOME. And if most of your friends can't be arsed with Home, you won't have any friends in Home either.
@ thor Agreed. I do think home theoretically will be cool, but I don't seem myself being able to get any of my friends on it. I think the only chance home has, is if it really is a reliable and easy way for a group of gamers to start a multiplayer game. I know all the Gran Turismo buffs are just dieing to have private rooms to be able to play with friends. If when home comes out, you can just invite people to your apartment, and all join the race (or whatever game you wish) together, then that I believe is the one way you get gamers into home. Once they are in Home in order to join different games, then just maybe they might do some exploring.
Well that's what home is, if you like home and you want to be on it, you can find friends. It's a social network for crying out loud that's what it's supposed to be for. if your friends don't use it no biggy you can still get on it and find other friends or hang out, hopefully they have 21+ bar's or something that'd be badass. But my point is, it's a social network. I too am angered by this and I highly doubt that it WILL come out this year too. My reasons behind it are: #1 They are still in closed beta and still testing languages. #2 they are inviting MORE people to closed beta. #3 they aren't doing it THIS week which leaves...5 weeks? #4 the only thing that makes me believe it will come out this year is if it comes out the week of christmas. It could be a christmas present from Sony, but at the same time this was the same crap that made me not buy LBP. I love LBP it looks great, but they released it at the wrong time, they held it back and extra week at launch, had they not held it back I would've had it. But considering Home is free and LBP is not, I will still have Home. And yes that's what I meant if you connected my sentences you would see he doesn't have many friends and that's what HOME is for, to hang out with friends and meet new people. But because siligon has such a bad attitude, who in home wants to be his friend? Case dismissed.
I wonder why...even the most hopeful has to concede that Home is probably not hitting the PS3 in 2008. But dont get too bent outta shape folks...the year is almost over.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wik... PlayStation Home (also marketed and referred to simply as Home) is a community-based service for the PlayStation Network which has been in development since early 2005. Home allows users to create an avatar for their PlayStation 3 console. This avatar will get their own virtual apartment space, which can then be adorned with items users can receive in several different ways. In the future the service will also expand, allowing players to have more sorts of clothing or bigger apartments. Sony wants to give people the tools to create their own things, but they also want a safe place for younger users to feel comfortable.Sony is aiming for the initial download to be under 500MB. Home was announced at the Game Developers Conference on March 7, 2007 and was originally scheduled for a global public release in September or October 2007. During the Tokyo Game Show 2007, Home's full release was announced to be delayed until "Spring 2008". On 21 April 2008 Sony Computer Entertainment announced that Home would be delayed further and the closed beta would be extended until "Fall 2008". However it was confirmed that more PlayStation Network users would be invited to join the closed beta during this time. An announcement on the Official PlayStation Europe user forum confirms that invitations to the closed beta will be offered to winners of a weekly Warhawk online gaming event. Kazuo Hirai, President and CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment, said that "Spending more time on the development and on the Closed Beta testing reaffirms our commitment to bringing a quality service, maintaining the PlayStation tradition."
@Silogon "I haven't booted Home up in almost a month now. " Well it was well worth sony letting you into the beta test. The beta test if for the home engine, not for content. That is why there is limited content in the beta at the moment.
You said:"I don't remember anything official saying that Home was coming out this year." "First and foremost, Van der Meulen told me (without hesitation) that it is a 100 percent guarantee that Home will be released by the end of this calendar year," wrote IGN's Ryan Clements." ( http://ps3.ign.com/articles... Van der Meulen is a producer of Home. Seems pretty official to me... EDIT: Oh, people already pointed this out, well nevermind my comment then. PS: Home will suck, I know it, you know, Sony knows it, so who cares when it comes out! Oh and for the record, just so I don't get the fanboys on me, I hate MS avatars, there.
you people are just stressing yourself out over this stuff. If it bothers you that much about delays, maybe you should try a new hobby. While your waiting, if your waiting, play a game, or go outside, or something. But instead you would rather come online, post some hate comments, only to feel like you have accomplished something, then you sign off, pick your nose, and then say to yourself, "I'm so awesome" Does it bother you that much, really?
*picks nose* I'm so awesome! :) Nice post Kratos I can see it now. After that, they kiss their Mattrick/Tretton poster and turn off the green or black console nightlight and cover themselves with their X360/PS3 comforter, grab their lancer/chimera replica and make sweet system start logo noises to put them to sleep.
Forget about it. Just put it out of your head and when it is ready, you will be there and ready for it.
I can donate a sleeping bag :)
Keep things regular, suppose we will keep waiting..
People don't seem to realize that Sony wants this go well. They will most likely release the beta this year but the full version will always be in beta like gmail. Once they're ready, that would be great. But for now, I look forward to the games. ...And an empty purse. :<
my wallet is already showing the strain
You poor child. ;___;
but is social networking 24/7 just ,well, lame even tho i think some social networking is fine(online game playing, video chat and conferencing)but things like myspace and facebook to me are lame, and if sony's Home is trying to emulate those, then i think they are setting themselves up for disappointment because if you notice the trends, myspace was extremely hot a few years ago and now? not so much facebook is gonna go the way of myspace. second life is corny to me,because i feel that even tho i might want to "chat" with someone's avatar, its usually just to set up a quick game of madden or whatever. i cant see myself hanging out in a virtual world,i'll probably end up like homeboy who is getting divorced for "cheating" on his wife with a virtual person...or i'll just wind up getting banned for starting some sh*t because im bored(sexually harassing virtual chicks)just to be retarded. but on the flip note,as long as they dont force it on me(meaning that as long as i dont "have" to go thru home to play my games)then im fine with it,but if i "have" to go thru home im gonna be extra upset and lets not talk about the kids and the misfits that want to make home a less than pleasant experience by cursing and just flat out annoying people...hell is breaking loose world wide in 09 p.s i was just playing devils advocate btw,i would never act childish online,i have more respect than that, but there are those that do it and im speaking generally ofcourse peace and game on
wait, Ted didnt say 09? or am I missing something?
I didn't see that either. I don't know where that came from.
true indeed its gonna be a hell of a year for gaming
but its safe to assume especially with all the news recently.and sony did comment on it i think 09 is a safe bet....late 09,but 09 none the less
I still don't understand what was the original delay all about? -From what I have heard the Closed Beta is wack * Nothing to do but run around and chase female avatars * You can't upload your own videos and stream off your hard drive *Furniture for the apartments (home) is very limited *Only 3 games out of the 400 + PS3 library have friend invite I hear the closed beta is just wacko. Why would Sony delay this? If its going to be this boring? And yet once again, microsoft have beaten Sony to the market by releasing a simplified. HTML version of home on XBOX LIVE. microsoft delivered on there promise & Sony Didnt! Don't get me wrong, I love Sony but am getting a bit irritated lately-
the beta is just to get the bugs out but home 1.0 is going to be were we see alot of the features we been waiting for, atleast i hope, and u just have to find stuff to do in home, make a big crowed and turn it into a robot line or something
sweet i just wish they tell me when 1.0 comes out then maybe i will actually go and visit home
First off I will state that I love my PS3. I love the movies I have and the games I play and the PS3 has the franchises I love. I didn't buy a PS3 because of HOME but when I heard about it I thought it was a cool feature and was willing to see what became of it. Who knows maybe it could change the way we game. Now, this thing has gone back and forth....coming in 2007.....coming in 2008.....closed beta extensions....download the theme and we might invite you....purchase QORE and you get in....it is going to be in a permanent beta format as it always changing.....it is getting ridiculous. Does anyone really know when this will release? Does Sony? What happens when they extend the beta for multiple languages and problems occur? What happens if they release it this year and very little dev support is provided initially? My suggestion is for Sony to scrap the whole thing and spend that money elsewhere because if it doesn't come out and wow us it will just be railed on and forgotten. I long for the PS2 days with a very simple interface where I put a game in and play and if I had to do some other stuff I could access the menu system. I mean what's wrong with the XMB that we really need this? My evidence (which is not professional by any stretch of the imagination) is that casual and semi-hardcore gamers (myself included) will not care. Everyone I know who owns a Wii (all casual gamers) don't even use the Miis and other features. They put in a game and play and I feel that the same thing happens on the 360 and PS3. Interface upgrades are great but HOME makes less sense to me the more I hear and read about it.
At least it's a start. Version 1.0 will be a nice start.
All it lacked was - My PSN Friends in there (They will be there in the Open beta) +More Shop stuff (Stuff for your Room + Clothes) + The T.V wouldn't work???(Well i couldn't select it) +More Game rooms (From other Game makers) +Have Different Videos showing everyday And that's it;) +There was more Women in HOME than Men??? Hmm...Unless they where Men!!! Who knows!!! ;-D I'm meeting one tonight in real life down a dark alley!!! ;-D JOKE!!!;) +It's FREE!!! ;-P So i'm not going to MOAN about it like a old Lady!!! ;-D
I kill the next guy who ask when this is coming out
xuse me, but when is the beta out?
When is this coming out?
For all the haters just give it up...the version 1.0 of home comes out by end of month...and the open beta starts soon after. Why be a hater? Home is be awesome...and it will be free. It is not limited life Xbox 360s rip off of the Miis. The open beta will start soon.
ya and basically after the open beta comes out its like home launched just not finished
don't attack xbox live just because home isn't all that. keep it on the topic. it has nothing to do with live. vent your frustrations towards sony. there the ones who have kept you waiting for this app.
I am STILL looking forward to Home, regardless if it has taken them some time to roll it out. Working in I.T., I can only imagine the amount of resources and technical hurdles (bandwidth utilization, host resources, network hops, etc) they are working through to provide every single PS3 owner a new take on online gaming/socialization (at least for consoles) for FREE. Not only are we as gamers ungrateful, but we're impatient spoiled little brats that expect things on our time table and not what's best for the platform we play. If it came out last year and was a complete and utter mess, we'd boo-hoo and cry about how Sony screwed us and is made of fail. They delay it to potentially make it the best it can possibly be and we boo-hoo and cry about how Sony screwed us and is made of fail. Regardless, it IS something to look forward to and they can take as long as they like to ensure it is everything it should be. In the meantime, I have R2, Valkyria Chronicles, Killzone 2 beta, Socom, LBP, Fallout 3 and even The Last Guy to keep me occupied.
It's good to be part of a product in development as HOME is a one. Remember guys, HOME isn't a game and it'll never be a finished product. It'll keep evolving and even continue it's evolution on to PS4. Sony set up a good foundation for the future. Now that's what I call planning ahead. :)
And the delays continue...
i thought they said by the end of the year... this is suppose to make people go out and buy a ps3. so which one comes out first revamped xbl or home?
I dare say that one
I personally dont care for Home, but the expectation factor will probably exceed the product for the simple fact that they have teased it for so long. If it was talked about 3-6 months before coming out, then no BFD. But what is essentially a new way to do things that you can already do (except bowling and other new features), will end up underwhelming many by the time it drops. But this is all conjecture..who knows? Maybe it will be something cool, though I doubt it. The ball is in Sony's court...
Open beta will start on December 19th 2008. I just pulled that date out of my arse, but I'm sticking by it. I'm calling it. December 19th.
And this is why this article: http://loot-ninja.com/2008/... was relevant. Home is just becoming something no one cares about. That's fact (and I love my PS3).
It's free people! Also, wasn't this announced in early 07? C'mon now, it will get here when it gets here. When it does, people will still find complaints b/c that's what we do, right?
I expect nothing less of people :P (has a HOME beta invite atm :))
i can not wait. sony should take all the time they need to get it right!!! free means take your time in my book. i bought gear2 and it is now where as good as 10/10 but 8/10 is fair.. lost $60. you sometime get robbed when things cost money and if it free it is more understandable if it is not right.... take your time sony...please!!!
if you want things to be rushed then they turn out [email protected], just look at the build quality of the xbox360 just imagine how many x360 consoles will RROD when NXE flops onto your xbox
I don't get whats the big deal with this HOME...If i wanna socialize i will go out with friends and socialize with REAL PEOPLE and not some AVATARS...I play online games to compete with other people and not to walk around in a virtual world..IMO its just retarded.I fired up my beta one time and never turned it on again due to the stupid stuff going on.I was on it for a total of 20 mins and was being followed by dudes trying to grind me..WTF!Sorry but if i wanna meet people i will do it in the REAL WORLD.But i can see it is good for those that are ANTI SOCIAL and have to hide behind a virtual avatar in order to talk to women or are to fat and nasty to go out and be social.
I'm so fed up with HOME...seriously did these guys fail their high school? Time management is essential for such a multi-million dollar project. I can't believe they are still doing closed beta!
