Being a "fanboy" to a degree is natural, everyone has preferences about EVERYTHING in life, games/systems are NO different. The problem is, is the EXTREMES some people take it to.

Yeah, everybody has a little fanboy in them. I'll admit, I'm a little biased to the 360, but it's not enough that I'm not going to recognize the quality of many PS3 exclusives. If only the extremists could just grow up...

While I consider myself "borderline fanboy", that is to say I'm biased towards Sony but I don't hate the competitions efforts/consoles either (Although that Wii is a hard pill to swallow). But I know a good game when I see it regardless of which platform it's on.

Like many people here keep saying competition is good for us gamers and I'm inclined to agree.

I think most people are Fanboys(not as much those Diehards).

Its completely understandable, you have something that you really like. So you give recognition to that thing by telling others why its so great. The time it becomes a problem is when you spend every opportunity you have to promote or that you actually let your hate get ahold of you.

Well, I have to disagree on everyone "naturally" being a fanboy to some degree. One can still prefer oranges without hating apples etc. It's perhaps natural to care about something you've invested time and money in, but then one would care about making that thing better, not how much everything else apparently sucks.

The made-up word "fanboy" already assumes extremism, not to be confused with the real word "fan". Football hooligans, for example, usually fall under the category fanboys.

I like your analogy there. It's always better to be positive about these things. People really do need to focus on what's good about their favorite games instead of what they think is bad about games that they probably haven't even played.

Well there's nothing really wrong with a "Fanboy."

It's the ones that has to bash the "other" product or brand needlessly over and over and over and over and over again. Just hate hate hate hate hate hate hate.

I don't have any problems with the folks that just love their system whether it's 360, PS3, or a frickin' Wii.

But people like Foxgod, Cherrypie, Jason 360, etc. etc. always go on a hate rampage for no reason. Always looking for something to poke at.

While their friends are just playing the games enjoying the consoles they own, these guys do nothing but hate hate hate.

But to me it's a reflection of what kind of person they are in real life. Usually pretty pathetic to begin with. So what other place do they feel Almighty and safe? The internet comment zones of course!

I follow sony because of the exclusives they had in the past to begin with : Gran turismo, FF and other action adventure games. But that does not stops me from buying an xbox 360 and playing great games. Actually I'm buying one next week.

You more than just "prefer" Xbox, I've seen you take sides on fanboy fights. That actually makes you a fanboy. Perhaps not "the" fanboy, but a fanboy nonetheless. Then again maybe you were just having fun in the "Fun" Zone.

You can own all consoles, a powerful PC and an iPhone like me and have access to nearly all games this gen and still be a fanboy. Fanboy is about your behavior, regardless of the goods you own.

I denied being a TOTAL fanboy. This month I've bought equal PS3 and 360 games. I just prefer my 360 as I'm sure you prefer the PS3.

Everything started with Little Big Planet. I remember some Xbox fanboys blaming Sony fanboys for Halo 3's low score, but nothing can be proven with Halo 3 because it's been a year and the user score is decent.

By the way, how come Metacritic acted in favor of Gears of War 2 Score and not in favor of Resistance or LBP? How sad that CNet has to take sides with their major source of revenue and step on their own credibility. Now I don't even feel like using Metacritic anyway because I know it's skewed.

I guess I'll just have to use N4G's Metascores or gamerankings. I would have used gamestats but after the fanboy problem there will be no accurate ratings anymore. Besides, reviews mean nothing if you like or don't like a game, and numbers mean nothing in the face of evidence (facts about said game), especially when numbers are so subjective, hypocritical, paid by greedy corporations and contradictory.

I personally don't like Halo 3 (which has a high metacritic score) and don't know anyone who does that has actually played other First Person Shooters in a long time (that is, I know people that like Halo but whose last and perhaps only FPS played was Golden Eye and even then not all, but a lot of people I know who has played lots of FPS doesn't like Halo 3 because they've played other games that are liked better by them) but I guess whoever likes it or wants to take metacritic as unequivocal then fine, but it's really sad that people actually make their purchasing decisions on what others think or what number someone gives.

Console fanboys emerged the second there was competition in the console market. You can't say that stuff started with Xbox fanboys. Yeah, Xbox fanboys may have started the recent string of voting down games, but that doesn't mean stuff like that hasn't happened numerous times in the past. It's fanboyism as a whole that's the issue, not one particular side of it.

Does it matter who started it? This is Microsoft's, Nintendo's and Sony's "war", and if people just stopped playing along, they might actually have to worry about making their own stuff better, rather than trying to drag everyone else down so they seem "best".

I'll admit I am a fanboy. I love my PS3 more than my 360. 2 years ago it would have been different though. But I am a fanboy with reason. I still love Gears and don't blindly throw it away because it isn't on my system of choice, it's just the PS3 has more that interests me.

But it appears to me that you can coexist fine with the opposing console. Being a fanboy in today's terms isn't about loving one console more than the other. It's about outwardly bashing the other. I'd say you're a PS3 fan, not a fanboy. If I had both consoles, I'd still buy most of my games for my Xbox, but that doesn't necessarily make me a fanboy.

We need a new word rather then "fanboy" to convey these people that are so into their one console that will do anything to defend it. ie, lowering LBP score on metacritic.

A little bias toward one system or another probably depends on if you own both systems or not, or what's your favorite game right now. I think most people can understand that.

I agree that some of these rabid fanboys are embarrassingly pathetic. However i can't help but think that a great part of the problem is Adam, Morgan, Kevin and the whole G4 network really. Them supporting and making comments/statements like the PS3 doesn't really have any games and other needlessly negative statements about the PS3. While glossing over the obvious faults of the Xbox360. While that shouldn't matter to anyone really as it is there points of view. However as game journalists you have a responsibility to the community you serve to be nutral and unbiased. Now you're coming out an calling the same rabid fanboys you help to create pathetic. While as most can agree that we all are fanboys to some degree. It's those like many on this site (You know yourselves) that are the problem. When you lay in wait for anything about the console you oppose to be said or reported on, just so you can go into super rabid fanboy mode. Attacking an bashing sometimes even going too far as to becoming racist, sexist, unnessarily offensive etc. I've seen rabid fanboys on this site attack female members (Juuken for example)with weight attacks just to get a laugh out of others like them.

It's up to us to stop feeding these fanboys by arguing with them because if you go around and read some of these posts you can see that the intent of these post is to get attentions and people worked up.
