Killer seeks appraisal for Internet addiction, Poisons parents due to internet, and gaming addiction

The family of an Internet addict who was sentenced to death for poisoning his parents after spending money they gave him on online games has applied for a mental illness appraisal after Internet addiction was declared a mental disease in China this week.

The case is the first of its kind in the country after the standard was announced. It will be used to determine whether the man was suffering a mental disease and whether he had criminal liability when the case happened, Chengdu Business Daily reported yesterday.

The standard is still to be issued to all city-level hospitals across the country after approval from the Ministry of Health.
