Apple boss: iPod gaming better than DS and PSP

Apple's iPod chief on the bright gaming future in store

iPhone gaming is set to top Sony's PSP and Nintendo's DS, according to Apple boss

Greg Joswiak, Vice President of iPod and iPhone Product Marketing for Apple, is confident that gaming is at the centre of Apple's future successes and that the iPod is a better gaming device than Nintendo's DS or Sony's PSP.

...

Games are central to the success of the iPhone and iPod touch, in Joswiak's opinion, as he tells T3.com: "The biggest category of all in the apps store has been games. There are over 1,500 games and there's a great affinity between the iPod touch customer and those games.

...

"Whereas a lot of these devices [picks up Nintendo DS and Sony PSP] are more in the past. And a big part of that is not just the device itself, which is easier to carry, and has the touch display and accelerometer which is great for gameplay, but it's the electronic distribution of the apps as well."

Why do all the apple employees sound like the founders?

Is there a Jeve Stobs out there too?

No wait, better yet, does he have an i-Phone or Touch? I play games and own one and what this guy is saying is total BS.

HAHAHAHAH..... This guy has to be joking......... XD

anh_duong3320d ago

his comment would make more sense if the iphone had better control buttons.

support are lacking not all that absent but still, so they gave the homebrew community the full capability to develop games for the iphone. although their are talented people out their, nothing still beats good old fashioned major backing from a major corporation.

Umm...yeah I own a Blackberry and I'm not about to change over to an iPhone just because it can play games. Just because Steve Jobs says it's better for gaming than the DS or PSP doesn't make it so. I bought my original PSP like 3 years ago and has the full backing of third party developers. Not to mention I can't play awesome games like Crisis Core and God of War on the iPhone. No thanks, Mr. Jobs, you can keep your company's phone. I'm gonna keep gaming on my DS and PSP.

ever since i got my iphone i haven't played my psp at all and the only game i've bought was Tetris. all the other games and apps i have are free.

part of the fun is to look for free games or apps to find what they do. there are more free games in the App store than demos in the PSN store for psp.

SaiyanFury3320d ago

Fair enough, Scottie, everyone's free to game as they please. But I'm not dropping my fully functional Blackberry to go jump on the Apple bandwagon when I've already got a phone that works very well for me. Most of the games I want to play are already on the established consoles and that's fine enough.

MikeGdaGod3320d ago (Edited 3320d ago )

truthfully i haven't gone out of town lately and that's when i game on the road mostly.

i play solitaire the most on my iphone while i'm out and game on my consoles most of the time.

the iphone was my first smart phone. i had Nextel for years and wanted a Blackberry like phone so when the 3G came out it was an easy choice.

He must have drank the same tainted Kool-Aid that Jobs did! The iPhone and iPod are nifty little devices but gaming machines they are not. Talk about delusional, sheesh.

From the article.

"Whereas a lot of these devices [picks up Nintendo DS and Sony PSP] are more in the past. And a big part of that is not just the device itself, which is easier to carry, and has the touch display and accelerometer which is great for gameplay, but it's the electronic distribution of the apps as well."

Yes thats just what I want! A SMALLER screen, with a touch display, virtual buttons AND an accelerometer! WOW! not... The electronic distribution thing is funny too since the PSP has downloads directly from the PS Store and all new First/Second Party PSP games are going direct digital as well. The DS on the other hand.. LOL! The iPod has NO chance of denting its' market. Oooh well, back to work for me. I had a good laugh reading this article.

DS and PSP in the past?! What kind of planet is he on?

zoydwheeler3320d ago

Be fully tooled up for downloading full games etc. - hence NOT IN THE PAST?
