AusGamers Fallout 3 Review

AusGamers has reviewed Fallout 3 with a mostly positive review, but still focused on many of the things Bethesda didn't do all too well, they write:

"A lot of people might find this nitpicking. Especially in the face of the enormous amount of awesome stuff on offer throughout the Fallout 3 experience, but I think offering as much awesomeness as they have does not excuse a developer of Bethesda's calibre from poor design decisions, and there are a few major ones found within Fallout 3's inner workings."

Too many AAA. I do think this game is overrated.

I am not a huge Fallout III fan. It is okay. I really liked the earlier titles.

But this reviewer is an idiot. The writer indicates there are major design flaws and then awards the game a 9.5.

"...does not excuse a developer of Bethesda's calibre from poor design decisions, and there are a few major ones found within Fallout 3's inner workings."

A game does not get a 9.5 if it has MAJOR design flaws. Not just one apparently, but several. I do not agree that the items the author points out are major and that is part of the issue - not understanding what constitutes a major design flaw and differentiates it from poor animations.

A major design flaw would be a system where, when you die you lose every item in your inventory even if you reload the game. A major design flaw might be no mid quest save system. Design flaws are intentional developer choices not to be confused with programming bugs which are not deliberate.

Either way, while the game does not fail the review certainly does.
