This article makes no sense..its as if someone took news from many months ago and just added todays date it.

Edit

My confusion actually stemmed from the fact that the pricing was similar to that of yesteryear for both the ps3 and 360. But someone let me know this relates to Australia (which is weird because I thought it was dropped for that region already) Thus, my confusion.

It makes perfect sense. Xbox just cut the price of their console? What is there to get confused about?

BobDog3322d ago

i payed 699 for my ps3 at launch (60 gigs)

i live in australia, it surely cant be the same price for the ps3 still

SonyOwnsNextYear3322d ago

this is a good strategy. this will definitely help ms sell consoles.

kwicksandz3322d ago

Not only is that the aussie price of t he gimped 40 ( now 80gb )compared to your fully featured NTSC 60gb you then have to dish out the equivilent of about $90 USdollars for another DS3.

SCEE = Epic fail

The price of the core 360 was AU$380 (same as wii) for at least this whole year. So now its $300. So it dropped AU$80.

I guess thats news>? lol...not to me i already have one with a harddrive.

57% cheaper with 75% less features.

falcon3322d ago

i think that show you how desperate microsoft really is, they already lost in japan and is afraid to lose in australia and europe. also, its a matter of time for them to start to really worry about the US.

Motion3322d ago

Its ALSO 57% less expensive :)

Tapewurm3321d ago

Junk is junk no matter how low ya price it. I would still gladly pay $600 for a PS3 (even though they are now $399) over any model the 360 offers....have had my 60 gig PS3 model since launch and recently upgraded the HDD to 320 gigs. No problems at all...very reliable and high quality machine....... wish I could say the same for the RROD plagued 360's out there that have been sent back repeatedly to Microsoft for repairs. I have sent my son's 360 back for repairs 5 times...about a 6 week turnover time each time. I am speaking from experience here. Junk is junk.

PS3 399 + 30-50 for blue tooth headset = $ 430-450.

Xbox 360: 199 + 99 for wifi + 99 for Harddrive + 30 for charge station+ 150 for live subscribtion for 3 years or life of console= $580

So article should read "PS3 35% cheaper than Xbox 360."

After 3 years: PS3= 0
360 new console 199 + 150 for live subscription= 350 more

So 360 is actually 225% more expensive than PS3 on a 10 year plan.

MNicholas3321d ago

Not only do you have to pay for stuff you get free with other consoles like wifi and online but you get one of the least reliable consumer electronics devices ever made.

when you have an aftermarket machine with after marketparts that last for 3 days

mrnjl3322d ago (Edited 3322d ago )

The Kotaku story on the same article is a little more detailed.
And yes the RRP of a PS3 is still $699 here in Australia though you will find them cheaper. Alot of shops are selling them for $699 with a free game.

Here in Australia JB Hi-fi(I think thats our best buy for you U.S people) are selling PS3 with 1 free game and HDMI cable for $699. JB Hi-fi are also selling the 360 Elite with 4 free games for $629. Now we are getting a price cut the Elite will be cheaper again. (should be the same deal but $529)

If this dosent force Sony to cut the price on the PS3 down here I dont know what will.

OrganicMachine3322d ago

are you using Euro down under or Australian dollars?

mrnjl3322d ago

Australian Dollars(AUD). We dont use Euro`s as we are not a part of Europe.

OrganicMachine3322d ago

how much is $1 USD = $1 AUD?

if $1 USD > $1 AUD then Damn... PS3s are expensive there..

are am I mistaken.

SlappingOysters3322d ago

That's funny as hell. Are you Sarah Palin?

Man Europe is about 24hrs by plane away from here.

Rabid Hamster3322d ago

I think 1 Aus Dollar is worth about 0.65 US Dollars at the moment, but in our current economic climate this is going up & down a bit.

All our electronics are very expensive though

No we get ripped hardcore. Plus we never had ps2 BC...so even tho u just lost it. We never had it.

In New Zealand (near Aus) its like $200 more than us...so spare a thought for them poor people too lol

It wa awesome when our dollar was 90c to the Us coz u could buy DS games (Ds's are region free) on ebay for like half the price (for us poor saps anyway). Not now tho its plunged to 60c to the US dollar :-(

only one word to describe. "Pathetic"

OrganicMachine3322d ago

I'm guessing this is M$'s way to combat PS3 and Wii this holiday...

especially when the PS3 had sale spikes with that price tag.
