after watching all of the trailers. it's a retelling.
particularly - spoilers

Cloud strife doesn't meet sephiroth in midgar after keeping zack's sword.
the last time Cloud ever met and last saw sephiroth was in cloud's home town Nibelheim.

also Aerith doesn't give cloud a flower. someone accidentally bumps into Aerith making her fall down. Cloud then has the option to either disrespect her or sympathize. upon sympathizing she will then offer to "sell" you a flower. <--- the scene is complete changed.

To me it doesn't look like Cloud meets Sephiroth in this scene. Looks like some sort of flashback, as when he goes to attack Sephiroth he dissappears in to a mist. Much like the mist that swirls around Cloud and Aerith during their updated meeting scene.

there are 2 sephs don't forget. by the time cloud meets up with Seph a second time (boat cruse ship) Seph is infected with a bunch of new abilities, including flying and vanishing. it could be a vision but you also never get to see seph for a while. his identity was meant to be a secret at the shinra tower.

what they mean is it's not a 1:1 remake with only updated visuals. aside from the gameplay they must have changed quite few things to cope with were we are today. let's see.

you're not supposed to know Sephiroth's identity in midgar. he was originally a secret for a while. so yeah, SE changed the original story. the remake is a retelling.

reimagining or not. i would have found it wayyyyyyy more interesting if they put all these resources into something fresh and original. the workload couldn‘t have been bigger.

Reboot.

Remake = 95% just upgraded visuals. Maybe some additional content or a few tweaks to improve cetain mechanics, but no fundamental changes to the gameplay or story.

Reboot = Traditonally involves having the same characters and story for the most part, but with near everything else completely overhauled/modernized.

Reinvention = Prey 2017, Tomb Raider 2013, etc. Same name, but essentially a completely original game. Usually called Reboots by the devs because it sounds better.

Day one for me. 2 discs for just episode 1. That's amazing. Square Enix said each episode is a full game on its own.

Capcom did it right with RE 2 remake. I see Square Enix is going to make it right too with one of the most beloved JRPG of all times.

curious if we still get dialog trees; like when cloud is at seventh heaven at has the option to say something like "It is always nice to sleep with you" (Or wake up with you or whatever) Same for the dating choices and all that.
