Extreme Gamer: BioShock PS3 Review

Extreme Gamer: "Bioshock is still one of the best shooters ever released and it goes without saying, if you haven't played Bioshock yet, you need to experience what the hype is all about. No PS3 owner who doesn't have a 360 should be without a brand spanking new copy of Bioshock in their collection of games. Bioshock is just too good to overlook. The only real negative point to hash out about the PS3 porting of Bioshock deals with some minor graphical hiccups and the promise of future exclusive content. It would have been nice to have some exclusives besides an ultra-tough extra level of difficulty. For the good side of the port, challenge room downloadable content is on its way this month and trophies are fully support on launch. Revisit Rapture and explore the one of the best shooters ever released."

I really don't understand what the big deal is about Bioshock...its a decent game, don't get me wrong...and has fantastic art direction...but the gameplay isn't anything that spectacular (the plasmids and weapon customization work great, but other mechanics are extremely annoying and tedious...hacking for example was less fun than homework)...not to mention the ending kind of sucked...and rapture doesn't change a whole lot throughout the game (not a bad thing if you like what you see right away, but I ended up getting a little bored with it after 9 hours)...

couple all that with a strong lack of replayability and zero multiplayer support...and its just an above average shooter and nothing more...

now again...I am not saying its a bad game...I am just saying its not one of the greatest shooters of all time...I would say its overrated in a similar way to GTAIV...another great game, but hardly one of the best games of all time...an award the ignorant constantly give it...

I think bioshock should have recieved reviews similar to Dead Space...another great 'shooter' with similar pacing and fantastic atmosphere...but definitely not a 10 based on the amount of content you get for the price...
