Looks great but I'm constantly thinking "what's the catch" because it honestly looks and sounds to good to be true.

PapaBop12d ago

Sorry, the catch is a ultimate deluxe super duper vip edition exclusive pre order bonus.

NecrumOddBoy12d ago

I don't know why, but I saw Respawn's "Wall Running" going on in there, and for some reason, I feel concerned.

Sono42112d ago

Honestly, i'm hyped, i'm going to pre order just to send a message to EA that single player games still have high demand!

Sciurus_vulgaris12d ago

The game had a typical epic trailer that most EA release get. The Fallen Order’s trailer showed no gameplay what so ever, despite the game releasing in less than a year. I am cautiously optimistic.

"The Fallen Order’s trailer showed no gameplay what so ever, despite the game releasing in less than a year. I am cautiously optimistic."

I mean is that really abnormal? I think often times it's because devs show their game too early and the product ends up not being representative of the game we saw years before like with The Witcher 3. That games visuals were incredible in the trailers and then the game comes out and you're looking at something very different.

NapalmSanctuary12d ago

@TekoIie The game is only 7 months always so it isn't too soon and gameplay should always be revealed with the first showing. When it comes to most games if they aren't showing you gameplay they aren't really showing you anything.

Sevir12d ago

E3 is literally 2 months away, I'm not turned off. I'd much rather games get full reveals and trailers 7 months prior to release than this trend of announcing games 2-3 years before they have anything substantial to show then going on a black out for two years only to cancel or appear and be different. Looking at you MS, Ubisoft and Sony...

The Bethesda approach to showing off and announcing Fallout 4 is how I wish more devs and publishers announce and release games...

Work on your game in secrecy, tease your project but no footage ever, then unveil at a trade event the same year you plan on releasing, then actually release. Voila happy gamers.

TekoIie12d ago (Edited 12d ago )

@NpalmSanctuary

" The game is only 7 months always so it isn't too soon and gameplay should always be revealed with the first showing."

You're saying this for a studio that just recently released a game and gave us less than a days notice? That one days notice was from a leak too. On top of that you're acting as though games have never had gameplay reveals at E3 and then released in Q4 of the same year. I'm genuinely struggling to understand how people are making an issue of the reveal date and the release date being so "close" and making an issue of it. This is no way abnormal in this industry.

Sciurus_vulgaris12d ago

@Sevir

EA is not attending this year’s E3 conference.

The catch: You have to buy new batteries for your lighsaber via in game purchases

Ausbo12d ago

Reswpawn doesn’t disappoint. They haven’t ever made a bad game

fatbastard1112d ago

The catch is the entire game is SJW propaganda.

KickSpinFilter12d ago

The catch is your a little boy, real men have now fear over a powerful woman... junior.

Thunder_G0d_Bane12d ago

Very disappointing reveal no gameplay.

Tho I have faith in Respawn they don't make shit games.

carmelo4312d ago

how can you say it looks great without any type of gameplay smh

deathtok12d ago

It does look great! Titanfall 2’s campaign was a lot of fun. I feel decently good about a game from Respawn in general because of it.

Mr_Writer8511d ago

@foxtrot

And that's why EA were right, gamers don't buy linear single player games.

It's a shame this game will fail due to gamers being more concerned about ripping on a publisher rather than appreciating a potentially fun game by a great developer.

CobraKai11d ago

Wow. This looks legit amazing. The catch is it will be canceled by summer and Respawn will be closed down.

MWH11d ago

Bait: food placed on a hook or in a net, trap, or fishing area to entice fish or other animals as prey.

We are the catch.

NXFather9d ago

Don't worry. You won't be there. I know you can hear GOD.

As with anything Star Wars related now it's best to keep expectations in check. I always feel that Star Wars games can make the player feel too powerful compared to the movies and it'd be nice if the game can manage to capture the "movie feel" rather than a "Force Unleashed feel" with the gameplay.

The scene salvaging the Venator was very nice so I wonder where about this game is going to fit in the timeline.

RememberThe35712d ago

Sounds like they're going for the Force Unleashed angle but I'm hoping the game is more than just a power fantasy. The game is being directed by the director of God of War 3 so I expect epic levels and great gameplay, but I'm less confident about the story telling.

TekoIie12d ago (Edited 12d ago )

"Sounds like they're going for the Force Unleashed angle"

That would be a little disappointing to me. I'd really like to see a gameplay style where deflecting blaster bolts is actually difficult and you have to use cover and flanking routes to close the distance between you and Storm Troopers due to being relatively inexperienced in the force and unskilled with a light-saber. It would be a breath of fresh air compared to The Force Unleashed.

"I'm less confident about the story telling."

To be honest it doesn't have to be top notch storytelling to be good. Just have some nice characters and elements that are good additions to the lore and it'll be welcomed by fans. If anything it should only aim to tell a simple story because that's all anyone wants. If it performs well the sequel can tackle something more nuanced.

Lord_Sloth12d ago

Going for the "Force Unleashed Angle" could just mean the streamlined controls and not necessarily the power scale of Starkiller. The power could be very low in comparison as this trailer was very reasonable. I imagine they'll go with the scale of the Jedi Knight series with Kyle Katarn.

Giblet_Head12d ago

That's why there hasn't been a better lightsaber combat game since the Jedi Knight series.

Absolute state of Star Wars games.

CobraKai11d ago (Edited 11d ago )

I’m hoping for a more elegant lightsaber combat system like Jedi Knight, but I thinking it’ll feel more like DMC or Force Unleashed. I do miss Jedi Knight.

CorndogBurglar12d ago (Edited 12d ago )

I don't believe they are going the Force Unleashed route and making the Jedi powers seem over the top. I read that early on. That they wanted the gameplay to feel like a cross between Force Unleashed and Uncharted, but without the over the top Jedi powers. Plus, you play as a Padawan. So even if they did have overpowered Jedi in it, I would think his abilities would be minimal compared to Knights and Masters. I understand he will likely vet stronger during the game, but it would be a bit weird to have him go from Padawan to Master status in one game. Although it does look like he's closer to the end of being a Padawan and possibly ready to be a Knight, kindnof like Obi Wan in Episode 1. He was a Padawan in that movie but for all intents and purposes he was ready to be a Knight.

The game takes place fairly soon after Episode 3 when the Emperor enacts Order 66 and kills all the Jedi. Its during the "Dark Times" when the Empire is still growing and actively hunting down Jedi that survived.

TekoIie12d ago (Edited 12d ago )

"That they wanted the gameplay to feel like a cross between Force Unleashed and Uncharted"

It's a bit difficult to imagine. They've talked about striking, parrying and dodging which is nice but not very descriptive as to how the gameplay will feel overall. With that said I'd love to see bosses feel like they did in the Force Unleashed in that each one felt important and had character. We see a few different Inquisitors in that trailer and I'd love it if each one felt unique and memorable and not just faceless bosses where the developers decided to insert a challenge.

" I understand he will likely vet stronger during the game, but it would be a bit weird to have him go from Padawan to Master status in one game."

That would be very jarring even if they had cuts in time for the narrative. Glad they're going in that direction.

"He was a Padawan in that movie but for all intents and purposes he was ready to be a Knight. "

I think it would be much more fun to play as someone who's actually not all that extraordinary for the story. When you're powerful the solution to problems ends up being a direct one (e.g. target and kill). When you're a weaker character theres more thought put into your actions and often more steps to achieve a goal which is why i'd like the character to remain "weak" (by Jedi standards) for the entire game.

Relientk7712d ago

I like it so far. Hopefully the gameplay is solid, and you get some awesome Force abilities.

AnubisG12d ago

I hoped for gemaplay. They said many great things but I want to see the game. It's from EA so I don't have any trust. This game could still be canceled by them at any moment.

dRanzer12d ago

Strangely they used UE4 for this trailer and not Frostbite engine

porkChop12d ago

That's because the game runs on UE4. I guess EA is starting to realize that Frostbite is causing more issues than it's worth.

Soulrakk12d ago

The game was built on the Unreal engine.

TekoIie12d ago

@porkChop

Frostbite criticism likely wasn't a big topic back then but I think development started around a similar time Respawn was acquired? Perhaps they just explained they could create a better product with EU4 rather than starting from scratch and learning to use a new engine. To be fair its understandable as to why they would rather use Frostbite in most cases because of the cut Epic takes.

CorndogBurglar12d ago

It won't be cancelled. The old Star Wars game that got cancelled happened right after Disney bought Star Wars. They wanted to rebuild the Star Wars universe and get rid of anything that wasn't already shown in the movies or Clone Wars animated series. That's why Force Unleashed is no longer canon. If that game was still being developed at the time of that buyout Disney probably would have had it cancelled too because it doesn't go along with the new canon they are building.

AnubisG12d ago (Edited 12d ago )

The new canon they "built" has split up the fanbase and caused huge damage to the brand.

Mr_Writer8511d ago

Actually it's Lucasfilm. That has ruined the brand. Whilst Disney owns Star Wars it's Lucasfilm that runs the movie side.

Much like how Marvel run the MCU. Yes Disney profit off it. But it's Kathleen Kennedy calling most, if not all of the shots.

CorndogBurglar11d ago

"The new canon they "built" has split up the fanbase and caused huge damage to the brand."

I don't disagree with that at all. But it still doesn't change the fact that they wanted everything that releases now, from movies, video games, to books, to be canon.

VerminSC12d ago

I can’t help but be excited

Spartacus1011d ago

Take a closer look then, it says EA on it.
