Mortal Kombat 11 uses custom Unreal Engine 3, mobile version powered by Unreal Engine 4

DSOGaming writes: "It appears that it has been a confusion lately as to what engine the latest Mortal Kombat game, Mortal Kombat 11, uses. While we knew that the game was based on a custom Unreal Engine 3 version, some people thought that the game would be using Unreal Engine 4. As such, NetherRealm Studios Programming Lead Jon Greenberg has shed some light on what exactly is going on here."

I'm gonna laugh my ass off when Ubisoft would still be using UE2.5 for Splinter Cell.

Using the same Engine is the only reason NetherRealm can churn out a fighting game ever 2 years.

Gwiz1874d ago

IDK why you'd use that example, didn't the last Splinter Cell come out like 6 years ago?

by mobile version though, does that mean the Switch is powered by UE4 then? pretty impressive though that they can make a game with such fidelity on UE3 though

Neonridr1875d ago

no, Switch is the same game as the console versions, just running a lower resolution / framerate

rog, impressive nonetheless

Literal_Cringe1876d ago

I'm impressed to see Unreal Engine 3 still have support a decade and a half after its first screenshots reveal in 2004. This also makes it the 4th UE3 game on the Switch, makes me wonder if Epic should just port an official version over to the Switch and not let all these developers try to get a working version running.

So pretty much the same as their previous game Injustice 2

Mortal Kombat creator says 30th anniversary is the main focus, new game ‘in due time’

From VGC: "Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon says the announcement of his studio’s next fighting game will have to wait until 30th aniversary celebrations are over.

Boon explained on Twitter that while he understood fans were anxious to hear about the next NetherRealm Studios game announcement, the studio would be focusing on the 30th anniversary of Mortal Kombat first."

Talk about nostalgia. Shaolin Monks would be amazing with new tech. My only request is that they allow a bit more freedom with the camera.

“……………… are you ok?”

Sgt_Slaughter566d ago

Guess this means there's going to be some sort of rerelease, maybe a remake of Mortal Kombat Trilogy

Why??? Already have them on the PS3 n 360. Microsoft needs to make it BC

Profchaos566d ago (Edited 566d ago )

That release was a garbage effort filled with so many problems and lack of content it was like spitting in the face of fans.

Also it's stuck on PS3 and Microsoft ended it's backwards compatibility initiative for 360. Unless it becomes BC for series consoles only but there's no record of this occuring ever yet

Give us a complete collection of all MK games and I do mean all

NecrumOddBoy566d ago

I’d love it if they had the original actors recreate the animation captures from the original so they can reskin the game with mOLDer Kombat.
