the phenom is working, I'm not upgrading without a real reason. Maybe my next rig, I was able to put this one together including os for $500.

Those are some demanding specs..
TheIneffableBob  +   1664d ago
Not really. An 8600, which is about equivalent to a 7900 which is slightly faster than the PS3's RSX, would've been considered mid- to the lower tier of high-end close to three years ago. Now it's low-end since you can find a performance equivalent for about $60.

I feel those specs are a bit high. However I am wondering if the reason for this is the minimum specs are for running the game to console standards ie console graphics at 1280 x 720. The recommended settings are probably for the enhanced settings that the PC version is getting such as 30 car traffic jams and increased pedestrian population.

Either way the only setting my PC falls down on is the GPU, I am still trudging along with a 8800gts (old-style) 320mb version. I may upgrade later but I am still expecting to get better graphics on my 8800gts than I did on the xbox.

Those are pretty low specs i more than meet them
GTA 4 with no jaggies I CANT WAIT!
xg-ei8ht  +   1664d ago
I wouldn't say those specs were high at all.

Big city.
Lots of shaders.
Needs bandwidth
a.i traffic

I don't think an 8600gt is enough.

I wonder if this will get all the 10/10s that the console versions got after all the people that have slated the game after having a chance to spend time with it?

I for one would say it was more like an 8-8.5

there is no way it was a perfect game, multiplayer was naff, single player story was boring, missions were too repetetive, the fun factor was gone, driving was rubbish, etc. etc.

im trying to sell my copy of the overrated GTAIV for ps3. please someone, take this piece of garbage off my hands!

that being said, it should only be an 8 at most. 10/10, laff.
QQcrybaby  +   1664d ago
Driving in GTA IV was the best in any GTA game by a long shot.

!!!
18gb! Holy Shi*
TheIneffableBob  +   1664d ago
It's not going to use exactly 18GB. They add a couple gigs to be safe.

For example, Far Cry 2 was like 3.16GB installed while the HDD requirements were 12GB of free space.
ThatArtGuy  +   1664d ago
My laptop can play it. This piece of dooky that I'm on now wouldn't be able to sneeze on it.
OgTheClever  +   1664d ago
Can somebody please explain to me why the game requires 16GB of hard drive space whilst the DVD is only around 9GB?
Charmers  +   1664d ago
Because the console version relied on very heavy compression to get around the disc space and low transfer rate of the dvd. With the PC since the whole game will be installed to the Hard disc there is no need to have the files compressed hence the rather large size.

FFS what a hog.
mersenne  +   1664d ago
odd graphics card requirements
how can the 3870 be compared with the 8600?
Charmers  +   1664d ago
I am beginning to wonder if that is a typo myself. To me it seems to make much more sense to say a 8800gt rather than a 8600gt. However I did the story and I have double checked nearly everywhere they are saying recommended is a 8600gt.

I think these specs are a bit unclear and Rockstar needs to clarify things a little more.

Hhahahahahah
8600gt is pure garbage. Gtx 280ftw!
