It had Final Fantasy X-2...it kind of wrapped up their story and they were reunited

Can Final Fantasy VIII get some love please. An animated film, a prequel game with Laguna, Kiros and Ward or a sequel focusing on the Rinoa/Ultimecia theory with them trying to stop what will happen. The game dealt with time travel so the sequel dealing with multiple realities and parallel worlds would be neat

pietro12121955d ago

No movie (they're all so bad), but a remake and fix up those ugly plot holes and get rid of that awful plot twist. Or maybe just a prequel with Laguna and co

Godmars2901955d ago

You're honestly asking Square to "fix plot-holes" and "wrap things up"...

https://www.youtube.com/wat...

pietro12121955d ago

@Godmars290
All jokes aside I do agree with you though. At this point right expecting a fully finished title from Square is too much. I think the scope of the FFVII remake is too much and they'll probably run into similar issues as FFXV development (with the exception of building a new engine)

Omnislashver361955d ago (Edited 1955d ago )

pietro1212

I'm doubting their issues are nearly as bad as FFXV. Tabata is not that bad of a director, but he was stuck with a really crappy engine. Crystal Tools/Luminous Engine was so bad we didn't even get MAGIC MENUS in Final Fantasy XV. Even Kingdom Hearts has magic menus.

And if you look at the FFvXIII material, it looks like half the story was missing. Stella was supposed to be a rival which meant she could have possibly been a boss and/or playable character as well. The other thing that's conspicuously missing is the enemies had almost no contact with each other or the party. This is strange because consider if FFVII didn't have the Turks being a recurring instance for example. Or any relations with Shinra. If Sephiroth had no backstory(okay, so they tried patching Ardyn's story in later, but the rest of the stuff here is missing as well though). We got almost no interaction between Ardyn, The Emporer, Aranea, Ravus, and yes, Stella. How can the enemies not talk to each other? And their relations with the party were singular instances.

This shows that Tabata knew the engine was so bad he had to replace Stella and basically half the game and rush directly to the ending. He replaced Stella with Luna who had no battles and basically no relation with the rest of the cast aside from letters the dogs sent to Noctis. This made it so Aranea, Ravus, and Ardyn could be singular battles as well. They rushed right to the end of the game.

Yeah, Tabata replaced Stella for one reason and one reason only. To rush to the end of the game and this was a decision he made pretty early on.

It's obvious that the engine here is the culprit considering we were missing two things alone: Stella and Magic Menus. THATS how bad Luminous Engine was.

But look at the progress Nomura has made by switching KH to Unreal Engine. The game was produced in 4 years after the switch and has easily the single most advanced ARPG system in history(definitely not missing magic menus of all things), supposedly a lengthy story, and impressive graphics(and if you check the Japanese trailers, they're all in 60fps as well).

The engine has to be the culprit, not the team. Since FFVIIR has switched engines, I would expect the situation to be more like KH3 than FFXV. It's certainly not going to be 10 years and it certainly won't be as messed up as FFXV.

Godmars2901955d ago

@OmnislashVer36:
The issues you bring up where there with FF13. Rarely seen not fought, till DLC, boss characters. Issues with graphics. Content cut if not wholly altered. Everything that's been a problem even before then, and sadly the fan base has excused it allowing it to become only worse.

Omnislashver361955d ago (Edited 1955d ago )

FFXIII was also on Crystal Tools though. Just like FFvXIII and FFXV(well, Luminous Engine). Their in-house engines have been crap.

And we already have confirmation of this being better with KHIII which is on Unreal Engine like I said. It's our most recent example of what their teams can do with a better engine.

As for FFVIIR being multi-part, I understand the dislike but they said each installment would be around FFXIII's length, which is like 20 hours. That's actually a good deal considering most modern AAA games are 10-15 hours these days and have far, far less developed systems than J-ARPGs like KHIII and FFVIIR. KHIII's ARPG system is far more advanced than any other ARPG system in history for example. I don't see people complaining about TLOU II, Spiderman, God of War, Uncharted, etc, and each installment in FFVIIR is supposedly going to have more and we're complaining?

I mean I also think it's partially because of branding- I'm not that naive, but from an objective standpoint versus other AAA games we're getting far, far more content and far more intricate systems as well. If we complain about FFVIIR we should be complaining about every other game on the block as well. "Why isn't this game $40 at launch?". Well, you might have a point there. But we never see that argument.

@Godmars290

Stop bullying me its just wishful thinking. lol
After FFX through XV I'm convinced that Square likes plot holes and sloppy writing. I wouldn't want a sequel though especially not one based on fan theories. As for wrapping things up Square does like to put out unnecessary sequels (that just add more questions than answers)

Godmars2901955d ago

No bullying intended - ;p - But still, you're asking the impossible at this point. Even what's suppose to be a remake of FF7 is being hinted at becoming an open-ended sub series. The multi-part main then side games - no rel part in calling them "stories", focused on minor characters.

rainslacker1955d ago

Dude....spoilers!!!

Seriously though, I agree. While they can certainly say what happens after that. But I hope it's more like x, instead of x2.

More likely this is just some crossover thing though.

Godmars2901955d ago

Still hoping against reason for a sensible yet involving plot. No absolute "WTF?!" like finding out all the characters who just met for the adventure knew each other years beforehand.

Segata1955d ago

I want a full on FFVI remake. A full budget one with turn-based mechanics.

terrorofdeath1955d ago

Still waiting for FFIX sequel or remake. Best FF in my opinion.

Should have ended at X , X-2 completely ruined X's ending, not to mention the whole tidus zombie thing, just leave X alone !!!

MadLad1955d ago

Yeah. But the costume system meant 14 year old Jesse had a hard on the entire time.

RizBiz1955d ago

My name isn't Jesse, but I can confirm I had a rock-hard boner for Rikku every time she was on screen.

It's so disappointing that to this day, I have not seen a game match what BLACK offers in an FPS.

ApocalypseShadow199d ago

Shame isn't it. I thought we'd be at a point of destructible backgrounds, objects, pyrotechnics etc in shooters. I sold many a copy in the demo unit when I managed a franchise Game Crazy back then. But I stopped playing shooters because they didn't evolve. Heavy weapon. Shoot a wall or glass. Nothing happens. Lol. Except for Killzone 2. I enjoyed that.

But then I woke and remembered it's EA. EA didn't care really. They just wanted to kill competition from Criterion and Burnout. And own Renderware to profit from as many developers used that engine. Only thing was that developers ran as fast as they could away from EA to Unreal Engine and its pop in and Vaseline graphics. Shame on EA. And then they bought Dice for Frostbite. Evil busters.

Anyway, too many PS2 games to count. Some of my personal faves being DMC, Genji, Bujingai, Blood Will Tell, Onimusha, Way of the Samurai, Japanese Berserk, Japanese Macross game that blew away the US Robotech game, RAD, Castlevania Lament of Innocence.... there's just too many. Let me stop. Lol

Cacabunga199d ago

Code Veronica
Dead or Alive 2 Hardcore
The Getaway
Time Crisis 3
Killzone
Mark of Kri
SSX

are some of my all times favorites missing on that list

shinoff2183198d ago

I've always Saud I'm not a fan of fps much , there's been some I really like and thought were really dope. Black falls into that category.

CoNn3rB198d ago

I would love nothing more than a remaster of the Jak series, including Jak X

Flawlessmic198d ago (Edited 198d ago )

The greatest console of all time !!!!

The last console from when gaming was pure, games didn't take 5 years to release, no online only, no half finished games, no mtx.

Ps2 was just banger after banger after banger.

It will always be my favourite.

sagapo198d ago

No Timesplitters in the list??

FinalFantasyFanatic198d ago

This is a really good list, pretty happy with the choices here.

FFX and FFX-2 Do Not Need a Sequel

As a complete duology, Final Fantasy X and X-2 just do not need a sequel. These games provided us with satisfying conclusions to the characters' journeys and meaningfully wrapped up their arcs. And after the terrible way -Will- presented its narrative, feeling more like an attempt to capitalize on the previous game's success than a well-crafted and meaningful sequel, that's all the more reason to just let FFX be what it already is. Any further attempts to force a sequel will only diminish the legacy and impact of Final Fantasy X and X-2.

If they do another one, I'd really like to see more of a focus on the connection to FF VII. Since it was confirmed that they take place in the same world. Let's just keep the pop star element out of it for the next one... I really enjoyed X-2 as a game, but man that decision for Yuna and Rikku's character direction wasn't the right choice.

shinoff2183327d ago

The connection to 7 would be dope af. I can even begin to think how'd they do it. I mean storywise and stuff I know about the Shinra stuff and everything. I'd be down with a 10 3

-Foxtrot327d ago (Edited 327d ago )

Nope

https://www.finaland.com/?r...

It wasn't supposed to be taken seriously

"This story is a bit of a joke. When we created FFX-2, we wanted to create something, a totally new world. Except that when I created it, I realized that it looked a lot like FFVII ... But without realizing it. Afterwards, when it was officially said in Ultimania, it took a completely gigantic proportion when it was just an anecdote"

Thank God anyway

It's better when each FF is a different Universe

Snookies12327d ago (Edited 327d ago )

Except, it is canonically connected in the VII Remake. There's a Shinra character in X-2, who is actually shown in a picture on the wall in the Shinra HQ in Remake. Meaning at the very least, X and VII share the same world in the Remake version.

CrimsonWing69327d ago

@Snookies12

I thought they said that was just a joke:

―It’s a sequel to VII?!!
Kitase: “No, that was halfway a joke. However, in FFVII’s ending, Holy was supposed to settle things, then it’s suddenly ‘500 years later,’ and there’s been nothing like a sequel for it. There’s room to fill in that gap. There’s room for imagination. Since Nojima-san and Toriyama-san have worked together since then, talk that it could be possible with those staff members built up for a moment.”

―So, how did talk of it as a sequel to VII come up?
Nojima: “I felt that VII and X had a relatively connected feeling, that VII has an essence there.”

―Ehh, so VII and X are connected?
Nojima: “No, there isn’t much to it. For example, what happens when people die is fundamentally the same in my mind. I wrote both stories following the same idea. At times, other thoughts pop up, though. Pyreflies are green here and there, and other colors besides.”

https://thelifestream.net/c...

I think they were just having fun and making a gag out of it.

Name Last Name327d ago

@Snookies12 those are just easter eggs

-Foxtrot327d ago

@Snookies12

Easter eggs man nothing more

Like I said it's better for them to have their own Universe then being connected

I mean think about it...FFVII and FFX are completely different outside of those small little things, the worlds are like Night and Day

Nope but I sure would love a remake of ffx, my fav ff game along with 9.

JokerBoy129327d ago

Oh man, never thought I'd see someone with the same favorites as me lol. We're supposedly getting a remake of 9 at some point. I'm hoping we get something new from the FFX universe.

shinoff2183327d ago

I cannot wait for the remake of 9. It's got me pumped and it's not even official. Ff9 is damn near perfect imo

Abnor_Mal327d ago (Edited 327d ago )

I just saw a video about a rumor that Sony may have secured the rights for FF9 exclusivity for some possible remake.
