A Nintendo 64 Classic might be competing with the new Sony PlayStation Classic

A trademark filing in Europe filed in 2017, now "registered and published" on August 30th 2018, points to Nintendo making a miniature Nintendo 64 with a game library built-in, along the lines of the NES Classic Edition.

I dread the controller that will come packed with it

gangsta_red25d ago

For real, that was one of the worse controllers. It was right up there with the Atari Jaguar.

Neonridr24d ago

really? I would say that this controller helped usher in modern controllers of today. While they didn't invent the analog stick, they certainly made it popular.

It was perfectly fine to hold. I agree it looked weird, but performed way better than say the original dual shock.

@neon

The controller was excellent for games that Nintendo made themselves but for games from other developers or ports from other consoles it was a nightmare.

The whole button layout was strange.

That damn analog stick kept getting stiff.

@Neonridr.

The one controller that made analogs popular and is the base of all modern crontrollers is the Dualshock. No doubts that the snes controller is the grandad of controllers, Playstation og controller is prety much snes controller 2.0, but the father of modern controllers is the DS whit 2 analog sticks, 4 shoulder buttons, internal rumble in the grips.
Sony desing is the base of most of the modern controllers.

They need something like this. But some people wouldn't like new controllers, these things are nostalgia machines.

I don't have any problem with the original since I grew up with them, but I know a lot of people won't feel that way. They do need better analog sticks tho.

bloop23d ago

Why on Earth did they use the same octagonal cut out in the case for analogue stick placement?? That was probably the worst thing about the original N64 controller.

AizenSosuke25d ago

N64 Classic ftw but no N64 controller, completely redesign that crap

NXFather23d ago

Maybe gamecube or switch controller but, it is gonna be funny cuz you know its gonna ship with the original.

Casepb23d ago

What's the point in a N64 mini without the controller? May as well just use emulators.

gangsta_red25d ago

Honestly, a lot of N64 games have not aged well at all. And there's definitely not as many good and classic N64 games as there are NES/SNES games.

Nintendo should just stop at the SNES.

cpayne9323d ago (Edited 23d ago )

I think more n64 games have aged well than ps1 games. Star fox, conker, banjo, mario 64, mario kart, paper mario, and majora's mask all feel pretty fresh to name a few. The original mario party hasn't aged too well, but 2 and 3 have. I agree that snes games have aged better overall, but idk about nes.

I personally loved the N64, as well as its controller. Great generation entirely, no matter the console.

If they make a Nintendo 64 classic they need to add the option to remove the atrocious AA horizontal blur filter the console had.
