He doesn't name the company in question, revealing abuses in the games industry from experience, but it doesn't take any stretching to figure out who he's talking about.
Valve you sneaky people?
We've heard stories like this from other former Valve employees as well. It does seem like there are quite a few problems over there.
This is why you build your own business. Regardless where you work, these relationships of power formulate naturally, resulting in environments rife with psychopathic power politics and ladder climbing. Just secure yourself as the top leader of your own shop, and let everybody under you cry over your tyranny while reaping max profits from their labor. Welcome to free market capitalism.
There are major match problems they are scared of number 3
Thats why nothing ever gets released at that company anymore.
I couldn't imagine working for a company...that doesn't really do anything. Imagine working on something for years and years only to have your project scrapped over and over, like everything you do is for nothing.
Used to be my favorite dev. Used to be my favorite pub. Used to be my favorite platform. What happened Gabe?
Yup definitely used to be my favorite dev. Sad times.
now they are your favorite game store?
Greed is an ugly thing. Now that they are so big and have all this extra cash, i dont see why they cant still have a development side of the house. Although, hearing ex employees describe work conditions, it sounds like an absolute sh*t show now.
there are always problems in lots of companies in life... solution is go somewhere else. problem solved.
Often times it's the same at other places too. Employees tend to bring their problems with them from other places
If it's employees then that makes it a whole lot easier to not deal with their crap at all... I don't like my co-workers, I just get on with what I need to do then go home... it's that easy. Nothing personal. Also, there's that aspect of having a spine if a person needs to speak up and just say "No thanks" to any BS coming their way. I know being assertive is tough but I've had harder times dealing with my autistic cat then people.
Being assertive really depends on the situation. Plus, some people are better at it than others. While some can do it in a productive way, some lash out, which tends to raise defenses. Plus, its not always easy, or even a good idea, to be assertive with ones boss. However, I do agree, that for the most part, its best to just do your work and if things get bad, hopefully there is someone up the food chain that can manage any concerns. I like where I work now. I have to say there is a good group of people there that all get along great, and there is a lot of respect for each other. A couple annoying people sometimes, but nothing rude or antagonistic....outside the one curmudgeon, who everyone just ignores and says "yeah" to whenever he talks.
Just make Portal 3 for fugs sake
It’s like it where ever u work, you’ll get the snakes and the back stabbers.
