Funstock Retro look at some of the hardest retro games of all time. This week - a spooktacular classic for the NES that will kill you in two hits!
This was a tough one and I couldn't beat it as a kid. Only so many lives and I never had a cheat code like contra or ikari warriors...
Maybe my memory isn't so good, but couldn't you continue indefinitely? Maybe it was a game genie code ... Still, even with infinite lives, this game is impossible. So are: 1. Battletoads 2. Adventure Island 3. Ninja Gaiden I, II and III 4. Ghostbusters 5. Back to the Future
Wish I had a game genie, but I didn't for NES. All of my time on that was straight forward. Didn't know about those until I got a shark for my ps1. Fun times and it definitely made me a sharper gamer, at least at the time. I think the old game controllers probably held up better than today's from being tossed after a crucial mistake!
There was no continue, as far as I remember.... Once you were out of lives that was it.
My Mom beat this game when I was like 20 years old. You have to go through the entire game at which point you get knocked back to the beginning and have to go through the entire thing again to finally get back to and kill the big devil thing.
I beat it on the mega drive but it was a tough one to do and couldn't beat it every time. I hate that people call it ghosts and goblins, best name was (ghouls and ghosts-megadrive) back then on the case, the cartridge and the instruction book. There should totally be a remake in current gen.
