Speaking at the Game Access conference to Sector.sk, Nate Stephens, the environmental artist for God of War, spoke about the development team’s aspirations for the sequel.
Just like they did with God Of War 2 on PS2. I have fully confidence on them.
You think God of War 2 was better than the 1st? I always felt it was, i dunno - definitely different. But not better. I still prefer David Jaffe over Cory Barlog
I like them both. However I have to say I think Barlog did this game justice with its soft reboot.
"I still prefer David Jaffe over Cory Barlog" Lmao, sorry that's not a thing. Cory just delivered easily the best GOW to date, whereas Jaffe is struggling to stay alive in the industry, and his last game drawn to death was a shallow flop.
I'm gonna be pissed if Atreus grows up in the sequel and Kratos stops calling him "BOY!!!!"... Jokes aside, (not really I'm serious) I cant wait for the next one. It will be a PS5 game so I cant even comprehend the upgrades this engine will receive! Thor, get your as in the hyperbolic chamber and stay in there cause Kratos is coming in 2-3 years!!
God of War 2 was arguably the best one in the main trilogy in terms of story, length and gameplay refinement.
David Jaffe have similar struggles like Cliff B. Despite the first God Of War wasn’t Cory Barlog first creation, but he was part of GOW team. SSM trusted him to take care the sequel and he did it justice.
God of war 1 is a classic like 2 but 2 is easily better
GOW2 was amazing. GOW1 had the initial shock effect but 2 was definitely the better game.
@Blaze929 Did you actually read what you typed? I mean they could just make a remake, and we could be excited, cause we dont get anything else....ROFLMAO.
GoW2 is my favorite of the original trilogy. It just was epic in scale and execution. 3 was very good as well but 2 was clearly a labor of love for the series.... that is until this new one.
I just can't imagine the new GoW being bigger or better, lol. This has me excited.
I will always respect Jaffe for creating the franchise, but GoW 2 is bigger, better, and longer than the original. It just is. They should've developed the characters and story more in 2, but i felt like 2 was a larger journey with better action. The scale was larger as well.
Balrog was the lead gameplay designer of the first GOW as well so he had a lot to do with why both games were awesome. I can understand the preference for the first game though. It is shorter, more focused, and had several gameplay features that were never used as again to the same degree.
@wolokowoh - at least one person understands.
It's gonna be epic
I hope it comes out on PS4 :/
All of the God of War games have been great. Especially this new one. I have no doubt they will craft another incredible game.
That's quite feat considering how good GoW is. Cory and the team topped himself already so I got no doubt he may do it again
They don't need to change a lot of things. Me personally I just want bigger and better bosses and not differently colored trolls and soul eaters
Yeah that enemy variety is repetitive, but it was the game was still fun. I feel that all those enemy was fillers, because they didn't want to show Odin and Thor too quickly in the first game. They are leaving all the enemy variety for the second game. I wonder what God of War Ragnarok is going to look like for the third!
Yesss ! Bigger bosses ! ...and I'd love it if it comes out on PS4 although I'm ok with PS5 too as long as I can carry my games collection over :)
The first boss fight was among the best in the series. The dragon was massive and it has all the Valkyrie optional bosses. There were numerous mini bosses such as The Traveler, Trolls, Soul Eaters. I have yet to finish the game, but i wouldn't say the enemies and bosses were disappointing. Maybe we are just spoiled by GoW 3? That had an epic collection of huge bosses, but the new GoW is a better game.
I believe they can do it. The production of God of War was tumultuous, but now they have an engine, assets, and a blueprint. Cory has stated that the development was a tireless struggle, but it's a testament to the team how everything came together. But now they have a vision and they know what worked and where to go. The sequel will blow the doors off. Thor, Odin, Asgard, Valhalla. Oh yea.
Game will be even better?? Man... It will be an early game on the PS5.. then the last game in the trilogy will be near the end of PS5.
Looking forward to it big time, I hate how excruciatingly long the wait will be for this though. It’d be cool to see Kratos get pummeled by Thor with his hammer left on his chest, Leviathan taken and Atreus kidnapped in the opening moments, then years pass and something happens which liberates Kratos but now he has to look for his son who has been completely turned and manipulated by Odin/Thor while living in Asgard.
What if Kratos lifted Mjolnir? Ooooo I just got chills.
If an elevator can lift it. Kratos can lift it
not sure if they will have "only worthy one" can lift it...but it Mjolnir look same as Leviathan. Actually its like - Leviathan <-- Ice - Certain weapon <-- Fire - Mjolner <-- Thunder - xxxx <-- Wind? - xxxx <-- Earth/Sand? Egyption?
Kratos has Brock and Sindri on his side so it going to be ...... Thunder! Thunder! Thunder! Thundercats! Hooooooooo!!!!!
I guarantee Kratos is going to kill Thor with Mjolnir.
I honestly can't wait, such a masterpiece!
so will horizon 2. damn can't wait
If it's anything like the transition from gow 1 to gow 2 then WOW. Honestly, anything marginally better than Gow ps4 is an exceptional feat in itself
Most likely GoW 2 will be developed for the PS5. Since GoW 1 looked extremely amazing I can imagine how incredible GoW 2 visuals would look on the PS5.
I hope they can get out more story content for GOW before this gen is out. I know it'll take another 4-5 years for the sequel to come out, so the earliest we can expect it is 2022, (at least they have the engine up and running so that will save some time).
I expect we could see something much sooner. They were already putting out plans for a sequel around the time they were wrapping up this one. Also the new one took so much time because they had to build everything from scratch. Lastly Cory Barlog has said he'd rather jump into a sequel than DLC so maybe they will get started later this year and we can see a new one in two-three.
I have never anticipated a sequel for something I have literally just finished yesterday. Been gaming for 25 years. This is hands down the game of the generation till this point. Goes straight into my top 5.
I think sony santa monica should create a new ip as ps5 launch title and learn about the new console's architecture and system and when they know how to use its maximum power and every one owns a ps5, go for a gow sequel, gow is already perfect but with the power of ps5 they can exceed the limitations
The length was perfect. Not too short but not so long that it gets tiresome. Can't wait for the sequel though and where they take the story.
I agree. As great as The Witcher was I got tired of it and didn't finish it. Stopped when they all got drunk at the castle. I think I was close to the end but I didn't care by that point, had other things to play. Games can be too long.
That's the exact point where I stopped. Been meaning to go back but its been a couple years so I might as well restart the game over. Some day>
You were nearing the end portion, hell of a lotta content in that game.
I beat The Witcher 3 but for some reason it wasn't THAT enjoyable. It was like a 7.5 for me. Nothing stood out except for the visuals. The story wasn't even that engaging. I don't mind games being long. The average playthrough for Persona 5 to beat the game is almost 100 hours and its an amazing game. I feel like any game can be long as long as there is new exciting things they throw at you
I can't believe I was so skeptical before I picked this game up. The first showing at E3 did not impress me and I was not hyped in the slightest. I was worried the combat would be wonky, the kid would be annoying, the story would make Kratos out of character... I've never been so glad to be wrong. This game is a masterpiece.
Not sure if it would need to be longer. Bigger and better same length is and content is enough for me. The way GoW was structured honestly was perfect for my lifestyle. Started on the 23rd of April, finished on the 16th of may. And the game felt huge to me
more variety in enemies and finishing moves, more bosses and we will get something truly insane.
Mannnnnnnnn it's lit
Can almost confirm that the Playstation 5 will see a reveal in the next 2 years and a release world wide in the next 2 to 4 years. Self judging Corys' statement alone. I believe a 2020 release. God Of World 2 releasing 2021/2022. Epic awaits. Sony should reveal the PS5 by showing off The Last Of Us 2 trailer then game play showing magically PS5 Logo plastered every where. E3 won.
Still too early for ps5 announcement.
Sony have already confirmed a 2021 announcement
I put God of War definitively in the top 10 games ever, and I have no doubt that this statement is true. They will learn and improve for the sequel, and it will be astonishing.
Sony's first studios never ceases to amazed me.
If we can have yet another Biblical sequel as God of War 2 was .... i think my body will explode from testosterone overload.
yea i expect it to be GoW 2 situation again (which is funny considering this practically is GoW 2 again), where this one will have much more and better bosses to it and maybe even better somehow better writing.
question is, is the sequel going to be on ps4 or ps5?
Im almost positive it will be for ps5...
If they could get it to be a launch title for PS5 that would be huge and sell tons of consoles off the bat.
Could release for PS4 after PS5 releases like GoW 2 which released for PS2 after the PS3 release
Sweet can't wait to play it. Gonna be epic
I just hope a lot better
More epic boss fights please :)
Oh yeah! No need to tell me. I know this already especially after playing the original sequel Cory was on. Better in all ways and with the power/features of the PS5
I would like it if Freya gets to don her Queen of Valkyries armor again to try and exact revenge on Kratos, but not in a straightforward way. What I have in mind is this: anytime in the game world Kratos will have a random encounter with every one of the nine Valkyries (in their physical forms) until Freya gets to confront Kratos herself. And then Kratos will show her mercy and Freya gets to have a change of mind.
That's what she said? I'll see myself out.
What do people expect a developer to say when talking about a sequel? "The game will be shorter, smaller and not quite as good."
GOW 2 and 3 were each better than the predecessor and each pushed the benchmark higher. If the sequel is as good as the current game, I will be more than satisfied. If it is bigger, better, longer, I will be ecstatic. The only problem is how long it will take for the sequel. Hopefully it won't be 5 years now that so much is in place and 2 or 3 years would be about bearable. If the next GOW game were a PS5 opener, it would be a fine start to the next gen.
Probably not 5. The core of the game is established. So it's just refining and adding to that, making the new assets, and of course all the media production. 3 years is pretty reasonable, particularly if they have the pre-production done, which is possible since it was a planned trilogy
