Both games looks great, if you asked me to pick one, I'd ask you to just gouge my eyes out because that's how hard it is to pick between two incredibly looking games. Killzone 2 and Gears of War 2 can co-exist as great-looking games.

The moment I came into this thread, I thought "O my gosh, here we go..." Haven't they proven that every level in Killzone 2 is a gigabyte each? There is no use in comparing them. I'm not a PS3 fanboy nor a Xbox one, i actually own a Xbox 360. I know that the capacity of the 360 games doesn't allow the 360 to be able to have game like Killzone 2. hopefully, the direct downloading of games thing will change things. Killzone 2 is probably going to be close to 20 gigs or so. It doesn't make sense for them to compare it to a game that will be 7 gigs or under. There is no competition. Graphics do matter for me, because they convey the immersion. So I don't buy the argument of "who cares about the graphics." But, with the condition the 360 in, Gears 2 looks pretty cool for the storage capacity. Some people act like 360 wouldn't kick ass with the same amount of storage as ps3 games. Saying otherwise would be someone being a gay advocate of the ps3's capabilities. I really wish microsoft foresaw this storage crisis; game comparisons like this would actually mean something

KZ2 has far better textures and geometry as well as a much more intense and immersive environment. The animations and effects are superb. The lighting and shadows are far beyond any Unreal Engine game could hope to be.

Having said that, Gears 2 should not be viewed as the best the Xbox360 hardware can do. Gears 2's obvious shortcomings (inconsistent texture quality, low geometry, limited geometry, cheesy sprite based effects, poor shadows, inconsistent lighting, etc) are mostly a result of the Unreal Engine not necessarily the Xbox360 hardware.

Yeah you're right, gears totally wins considering the whole damn picture is BLURRED beyond belief with an exception of the player. The only thing NOT blurred in that picture is the character. Interesting, possibly to safe some frame rate maybe? Blurring takes less than actual detail.

2nd) Look at the foot on the gears picture, does it not make the picture look more 2D than the illusion of that small "hole" in the ground is trying to make it look? The foot makes it look to 2D because #1 it's straight and floating ABOVE the hole, and #2 it's just plain not making it look 3D. Again, the blur.

Now look at the first picture on the KZ2 side, that cart. The cart is bent and deformed to the point where it looks like it is actually 3D and on that ground as if in real life it would be. My only concern is the barrel/crate in the 2nd picture but that COULD be due to the picture size/definition. HOWEVER this is not an excuse it can be proved by a true sized HD picture. But the GeoW picture CANNOT be displayed any different to show that it "IS" 3D.

the 360 could have twice the storage capacity of the PS3 and it STILL COULDN'T do KZ2 two graphics. Anyone that argues this point (just about every rabid 360 fanboy in existence) doesn't understand the first thing about the Cell Broadband Engine and it's SIMD architecture on the SPE's.
There is a reason they are called the "heavy lifters" in the cell architecture. The 360 could have 12 power pc cores and it still couldn't match the data throughput the Cell achieves.

THAT IS THE DEPTH of the design and the specification laid out by Ken to IBM. WHY DO YOU THINK Intel is scrambling like crazy to engineer this Larrabee chip?? They got caught with their pants down by IBM still using dual thread sequential processors. It might be game over for M$,the 360,and even Intel if they fail to catch up to the quantum leap in processing power Sony and IBM have achieved.

How can you say it looks better in motion when the pixels of the settings in GeoW2 are all blurred? It doesn't look like the snow I see in KZ2, but you can still tell it looks blurred. The funny part is that all these new releases for the 360 are all BEAUTIFULLY made characters, however the settings the backdrops etc. etc. are blurred beyond fkng belief. Want proof? I'm excited about both games. Killzone 2 has more to prove as it's been much longer in development, has to overcome a depressing and bland first title, and the fanboys seem to lay the glory of the Playstation at its feet. If Killzone 2 isn't the Messiah in FPS form, it could be a disappointment.

Gears is a proven game, not just in terms of looks but also playability and mechanics. I know I'll be enjoying the sh*t out of it.

And yes, these screenshots are ridiculously skewed in Killzone's favor. Neocrisis' opinion at this point means absolutely jack sh*t.

I say, compare away. Why do people want to stop comparing now? The 360 came out on top in a lot of previos comparisons. Now the PS3 is coming into its own and the 360 has peaked, I would like to see the difference. It is clearly obvious, not from those shots, but of every shot and video of these two big hitters that KZ2 is going to be the new benchmark in console graphics. I'm sure Gears 2 will look great but not in the same league.

I think the texture work in Gears is phenomenal. The overall look is very 'clean' and 'clinical' (you've heard those words before). I'm not a fan of 'clean' and 'clinical' so I opt for Killzone like graphics. Like I said ... to each his own.

...I hated the one where you headed into the tunnels/mines. It really showed just how linear the game was as the so called branches took you down a left or right path.

Furthermore, when you finally reached that giant spider like creature (sorry guys, I forget the name of it), it ended up being a big sissy. Hit it on its toes until it walks back onto a platform which sinks after a couple of other moves. I appreciate that big boss battles are just about working out the pattern to defeat them but come on...that was one of the weakest boss battles ever.

However, graphics on both games look fantastic and both development teams should be credited for a job well done.

I love this obsession with comparing 2 games that first of all are releasing months apart, and are completely separate types of games.

3rd person games have to use more system resources on the detailed character that appears on the screen at all times.

FPS's have more system resources to spend on the environment because they only have a gun and 2 hands to worry about.

It's a simple concept.

Each of those games had good -great graphics but in the end they didn't sell very well and I think that gameplay was that main culprit (that and the fact that gamers didn't give a &^**). I love my Ps3 but you guys have got to stop fooling yourselves into buying into the hype before the games even come out. It's painstakingly obvious that Killzone 2 is superior than Gears of War in all aspects. Gameplay, design, graphics and draw distance all belong to Killzone 2. With the Cell Processor, Killzone 2 is being optimized to surpass the original trailer seen in 2005. Gears of War 2 cannot even surpass it's original title.

It's not a shock to Dark Sniper that Queers of Bore 2 is being shipped on a dead on arrival status quo. It's an Xbox 360 exclusive and all titles shipped exclusively for the platform have always been panned as mediocre to less than stellar reviews.

While Dark Sniper is continually enjoying new and refreshing gaming content for his PLAYSTATION®3, Microslaves will continue to play the same games since last year.

Is it because of lack of quality games, or replay value? You be the judge.

I got no problem with that statement. However, with Gears I know what I'm getting and I like it very much but with KZ2 there is still a question of the fun factor. I liked the first one but it grew old rather quickly. It is still way too early to hype KZ2 IMO. Look at what happened with Haze (yea yea I know), another title I was looking forward to until I played it for ten minutes. Gears will be great and I am hoping that KZ2 will be as well but graphics are just one part of a gamer equation and not the most important one either.

I really getting tired of these articles... They are not even the same genre killzone is FPS and gears is a 3rd person cover type shooter. These are completely different games as far as view is concerned and if anything KZ2 should be compared to RFOM2, and Far Cry2, while Gears should be compared to Socom, and Fracture. the edge in power that the xbox had on the ps2 back in the day. The story and atmosphere were awesome, I played that game all the way through. I played it in progressive scan on my old Sony wega through component connection and it had some pretty impressive graphics for the time and the ps2. People always knock this game, but if you played it on a decent tv back in the day it was a decent looking fps for Sony's ps2. If Killzone 2 only plays half as good as it looks, then there will be alot of happy Killzone fans outthere. Can't wait for this one.

It doesn't relly matter anyway, as Killzone 2 looks amazing and so does Gears of War 2. Maybe Killzone 2 has a edge over Gears of War 2. But as I don't own a Playstation 3 yet anyway I wont be able to play Killzone 2 for awhile. Games have barely caught up to the graphical powerhouse that was GOW 1, so given another two years, I'm pretty confident the game will look amazing. And have proven gameplay. And great multiplayer. Pretty much the total package. KZ 2 also looks phenomenal as well, and should seemingly just drop the "2" and refer to itself as Killzone. Hollywood reboots seem to be working, why not? Easily.. Not to mention in Gears you walk really slow to avoid spotting frame rate issues, hence why they invented the run cam, because they cant render i when you move through the level to fast. Also why you have to walk up to some levels because its loading..

It was all done quite clever the 1st time but it was all smoke and mirrors.

Graphics from here on out have no excuse to being worse on the Ps3 other than devs not knowing how to program for multi cpu's...

im a big gow fan and gow is my favourite game this gen so far,gow looks fantastic but kz2 does look better,but its not this massive difference some people on here make out.if you lot get hard ons over graphics then i suggest you invest in a top gaming pc and play crysis as that blows both out of the water graphically.

the picture what neocrisis showed of gow looks worse than what i have seen of in game footage of gow2.

gow2 has has less dev time and less money spent on it than what kz2 and im hoping that kz2 is just not eye candy as im looking forward to it..

and arguing over which is better when both look great is just childish,reading posts on here you get the same petty arguments day after day with the 'my game looks better than your game nonsense'..

and many people who have not even played gow seem to want to knock it even when its one of the most popular games out this gen and gow2 is set to be the biggest games this year.

Both these games will be respectivley amazing games why do people have trouble accepting that?... I pity the fools that just can't enjoy games and would rather waste their lives with this pitiful stuff. I will enjoy Gears 2 this holiday and in Feb... will also be enjoying KZ2. This is an UNBELIEVABLE AMOUNT of Graphical Splendour

This game can ONLY be compared to the best looking PS3 TPS.
Which you CAN decide... my choice will be Uncharted.

because if you didn't know it is FAR more difficult and tasking to get such graphic detail from a game in the TPS view than from one in the FPS... its quite logical really. First every thing will need to be rendered at a much higher quality for it to keep its outstanding level of detail.

Now don't look at this from a fanboy standpoint instead I will like you to explain to me the clear lack of quality between Uncharted on your PS3 and Killzone and then see why Gears Of War is seen to be one the World's Most Technologically and Graphically Powerful games. It has displayed graphics at a standard never before seen in a category of games that truly lacks graphical depth due to sheer difficulty - the Third Person Shooter Genre.

Now to fairy compare Killzone to another game I suggest Crysis on its highest detail or maybe Far Cry 2...

I totally love me some Uncharted, but Gears mastered the shoot while behind cover mechanic better. The main thing I can say where Uncharted whooped Gears 1 is how the colors definately popped, and the cut scenes were dreamy good. But Gears 2 has way better cut scenes now than 1 and way more color schemes. Which comes together as just few of the slight features that make Gears 2 better looking than 1 by a significant margin!

if you look at the gears pic..what do u see?? a very detailed markus..sub-ok floor and a whole lots of blur everywhere else.

KZ2 pictures - looks crisp...and even in the far far distance u can tell its crisp..nothing blurred out..

People are pouring out of the woodwork talking about how "embarrassed" Gears should be, or how these pics are "biased", and BLAH BLAH BLAH! Seriously, STFU. WTF does Gears have to be embarrassed about? That game is fun as hell, and it looks f***ing awesome. And "biased"? Are you f***ing kidding me? They're pics! It's not like they're f***ing doctored. KZ2 just looks better because it's been in development for like a hundred years on brand new technology, and BDs just plain hold larger texture files than DVDs.

Comparing these games is like asking if you'd rather have Gina Gershawn or Jennifer Tilly from Bound. If you have half a brain, the first thing you'll think is, "can't I have both?" Or if you don't think they were hot in that movie, then whatever, you get the f***ing point.

KZ and GoW are unique and beautiful creatures both, and if you don't see that, then your fanboyism has made you dead inside.

Even if Gears looked better, I wouldn't pick it up, the first one was very repetitive and the combat wasn't too fun for me. Gears 2 looks much of the same, which wasn't a bad idea as I know I'm a minority; loads of people loved Gears. I've got no reason to avoid KZ2 as I didn't play the first :P.

I think it's clear to anyone with functioning eyes that Killzone 2 is visually leaps and bounds ahead of Gears 2 and that is not based off this article alone or these 2 pictures.

Gears 2 does look good but it pales in comparison to KZ2 in terms of visuals.

Gameplay can't really be commented on just yet.

Unfortunately it's difficutlt to convey tone and any kind of attitude in a post but thinking I'm any kind of fanboy in the sens of blindly loving Sony and hating all else is pretty wide of the mark.

I'll admit I am a Playstation fan, I have been since the first iteration of the Playstation for obvious reasons. Doesn't mean I'm a 360 hater or anything like that by any means, not at all, the 360 is a very capable console, no doubts there.

But honestly, how anyone can look at the screenshots and the videos of those 2 games and genuinely come to any conclusion other than how superior in terms of visual quality KZ2 is over Gears 2 is completely and utterly beyond me.
