Twinfinite Writes: There have been countless JRPGs over the years, but a few franchises always stand out above the rest of the pack. Here are the 10 best JRPG franchises of all time.
lad to see DQ is high on the list because it's done so much for the JRPG genre.
Same. Can't wait to play Dragon Quest XI. Kingdom hearts shouldn't be on there though...at least not that high.
In a list like this, Final Fantasy needs a demarcation point. It's not even really a series anymore. Final Fantasy 1-10 was a series. After that, the series was, essentially, killed off. Now, the "series" is just a collection of random games that all happen to have the words "Final Fantasy" on the cover for no explicable reason.
12 was a good game too...
Ah, the anti ff brigade cometh to spout more diarrhea of the mouth, and portrusion of the ass in which needeth kicking. Even with a subtraction of convoluted proportions it’s still the best JRPG series.
Nommers hasn’t heard of Persona. Poor thing.
It was really 1-9 with 10 being the first to make a huge diversion. World map exploration was a staple in the game. Whether or not you like 10 or beyond doesn't really matter. 1-9 all had a similar formula while 10 and beyond all tried to be its own thing. 10 and 13 focused on being "experiences". 11 and 14 went for MMORPG while 12 went for offline MMORPG. 15 went action. While the loss of the world map hurt, I think my biggest problem with the changes was the focus on combat based side quests.
1-9 were the best games in the series. I liked 12 with the Ivalice settings. It's true that we haven't seen a traditional Final Fantasy in a long time
I don't think Final Fantasy should be number 1, not anymore. It may be the series people think about most when JRPG's are bought up, but it's not been a great series for a while now. It's still good, it's just not great. Dragon Quest and Persona are better than Final Fantasy now. I also think the Phantasy Star series deserves a place on this list too.
Valkyria Chronicles deserves a spot on this list...
I still don't understand why people consider Dark Souls an RPG series...
Yeah, it's totally a rythm game. /s
Reverse the list and I might agree somewhat.
- Final Fantasy - Dragon Quest - Grandia - Persona - The Legend of Heroes - Breath of Fire - Tales Of List in no particular order
Xenosaga would be on my list.
They had Pokemon on this list, hate I gave them a click :(
