Ubisoft announced its financial results for the fiscal year that recently ended, and as usual PS4 games are at the top of the publisher's sales.
Playstation dominates gaming market, Xbox is the worst performer across the globe. More news at 11.
Actually Xbox One is second, at least for Ubisoft game sales.
lol, these guys eh 🙈. You are correct Abriael. Xbox one is 2nd in games sales. Half the consoles but greater then half the ps4 sales of games, which equals a better attach rate on the xbox one for ubisoft games 😉
@Kribwalker "which equals a better attach rate on the xbox one for ubisoft games" O.o True!
The problem is their attach rate went down YOY. That's not a good sign. With Switch being added, you would think PS4 would have lost more YOY, but Microsoft did 4% less and Sony only 1% less with the 7% gain on Switch (and almost complete exit of last gen devices). The Q4 comparison is even more of a loss of %.
@Obscure_Observer I'm sure Ubisoft cares more about the Xbox attach rate than the PS4 sales. Please stop it.
no one will ever know for a fact which has better attach rate, you all know MS does not discloses actual numbers. PS4 actually had a 15% edge at 36% to MS 21%. unless we know for a fact how many XBOX were sold you're all acting like a bunch of trolls.
Attach rate is irrelevant compared to total sales. Lets say xbox has 2 consoles and and 2 people buy it that's 100% attach rate. Now lets say Sony has 20 consoles and 10 people buy it that's 50% attach rate but 80% more total sales. Attach rate doesn't generate revenue for Ubisoft sales do. PS4 is generating more money for Ubisoft.
I bet if it were a new Rayman platformer, xb would be dead last tho..
fangirl....is that suppose to be worse then a fanboy...like it's a bigger insult because you a girl...just wondering...
Very impressive numbers by PS4. Clearly PS4 is moving consoles, 1st party games, and 3rd party games. PlayStation leads the console/regular gaming market as well as the VR HMD market. It's nice to see the restructuring several years ago actually benefit gamers. Sony is more focused on games than ever, and it shows.
@Krib and Obscure Ubisoft don't give a crap about 'attach' rate. Its like how MS keeps their own stupid metrics like 'engagement'. All Ubisoft and companies care about is sales not stupid percentages that can be manipulated to look good. PS4 sells millions more games and more revenue is more important. If Ubisoft sold say 50 million games last year lets say for example the PS4 being +19% translates into another 9.5 million units more on PS4. Thats not something to scoff at. At say and average price of say $50 per game thats over half a billion dollars more for sales on PS4 side. You'd be an absolute idiot to think something like that kind of revenue is less important than 'attach'.
So look at the decrease in sales % for Xbox games this last quarter compared to the same quarter last year. Naturally percent of the total goes down due to Switch software entering the picture, but Xbox's share got hit way more than PS4s. MAYBE sales are still increasing but not at the same rate as other platforms. Another year of this and PC will overtake Xbox as #2...
Agreed PC gaming is more appealing than ever now. Sure at the moment RAM prices are high and GPU prices are coming down again. I think once the RAM prices ramp up more people will move to PC gaming. Not only do you get the best version of 3rd party games most of the time. You also get access to 20+ years of PC games. As well as PC exclusives, old console emulation, no fees to pay for online, cheaper games and access to Microsoft games so you don't need to invest in a Xbox One since you will have a PC that can access them. The money you save on PC games and online access fees. It will payback the high entry point into PC gaming pretty quickly. The more money you save the more money you will have to buy a PS4 or a Switch or both for exclusives games.
To be honest Unisoft is the real reason their sales aren't better on PC. Anyone who has bought a game through Uplay knows just how terrible it is compared to Steam or Origin but you're forced to use it. I remember on numerous occasions buying games and not being able to play them for days because Uplay just wouldn't work. Until they put more work into the platform it's not going to change.
I agree with the attractiveness of PC, especially with the way Xbox went with exclusives. I sold my X1 and got a 1080 card last year and have been super happy. But it's definitely not for the technology illiterate (like my kids) that are used to turning on their tablets / phones and expecting them to just work. It takes some elbow grease and I just don't see the upcoming generation wanting to bother with it. My money is on PCb gaming decreasing over time, but I could be wrong
n4g isn't really a pc gaming crowd so you will get disagrees, but pc gaming is bigger than any console platform by far. Consoles for the most part only have games catered towards specific demographics, pc caters to everyone in the world. Now when it comes to the specific type of games you find on console, its usually ps4 first, pc second and then xbox/nintendo.
Ram prices might go down if the accusations of price fixing are true and win out.
"Agreed PC gaming is more appealing than ever now. Sure at the moment RAM prices are high and GPU prices are coming down again. I think once the RAM prices ramp up more people will move to PC gaming. " Not disagreeing with the whole notion of PC gaming being more appealing that isn't really news since the PC has been objectively better in pricing and price per performance part since 2009. But alas, judging from the sales of HW so are consoles( getting even more appeal). "Not only do you get the best version of 3rd party games most of the time. You also get access to 20+ years of PC games. " Kind of a moot point, considering most people that game on console do know PC offers objectively more graphical options but to them subjectively the difference between the two (PC and consoles) are not big at all to justify the purchase or upgrade. And console folk also have access to game from last 20+ years, either via remasters, services like PS NOW or Xbox B/C, or even by their old consoles. "As well as PC exclusives, old console emulation, no fees to pay for online, cheaper games and access to Microsoft games so you don't need to invest in a Xbox One since you will have a PC that can access them. " That really depends, do you really want to play current XboxOne exclusives? And surprisingly digital sales on consoles are holding up with the likes of steam and gog really well (without mentioning second hand market prices....also to the yanks no, Amazon,Ebay and Gamestop are not the only ways to access second hand market). *The only thing we can all agree here is that despite the "free" games people get monthly online fee is still a cash grab that should not be supported.* PC exclusives that are truly good(and those are quite rare in last decade or so) are either already available on consoles or will get a release soon enough. Srsly PC has many things that it does better then its console counterparts, but exclusives (quality) is not one of them. And this comes from someone that praised Starcraft 2 and recent Total War games as masterful quality, but playing certain console exclusives they simply pale in comparison. And yes, PC has thousands more games, but id rather trade thousands of crappy indie games and MOBA trash (with few exceptions ofc) for the current quantity of high quality exclusives on consoles. "The money you save on PC games and online access fees. It will payback the high entry point into PC gaming pretty quickly." That would depend solely on the users, how much did they invest in their PC and console. Do they like to play mutliplayer or not(do they pay for online fees), do they pay-smart (wait for sales or buy second hand) do they use game-share feature (both physical and digital) on consoles.... etc etc @Kevnb "sn't really a pc gaming crowd so you will get disagrees" Yes, because on any PC gaming site he would have gotten a completely unbiased approval? ;) There is a fair share of console and PC gamers here, and i count myself among those, so you are generalizing bit too much on that part. The reason the OP got disagrees is not cuz he was making false claims, its because he was only mentioning the ones that cater towards a certain platform while forgetting to mention the other ones that benefit the other side of things. Consoles have also the content for every type of demographics, but not in such great quantity as PC does.
if you look at the entire industry world wide its really a battle between pc and mobile.
They would have sold a lot more units of assassins creed origins if they had the marketing deal with sony instead of Microsoft.
Ps4 dominiate again.. but Ubisoft this gen are subpar
Nice to see the PS4 versions selling extremely well
3rd party need PlayStation
We’ll call it a mutual relationship. Kindof a mute point either way, because neither are going away anytime soon.
Moot. A moot point.
So you think ps4 would have been okay with uncharted, hzd, gow, gran turismo and vr chat all gen? Playstation is here today because of third party charity, they can't carry a console on their own.
I bet they could, they have strong ip for a variety of genres
Only that equates to something like two or three games a year. Ask xbox how that's going. Also imagine waiting several years for announced games in that situation.
You can't compare Xbox to PlayStation and I'm not denying that most PlayStation and xbox owners Play only gta cod and Fifa but still they rely mostly on PlayStation this gen more than the others
@g3ng, tbh it just goes to show how a console with both excellent 1st party exclusives and healthy 3rd party support can dominate the opposition nearly 3:1 worldwide.
Charity in this case is playstation's lifeblood, third party, being handed to them because microsoft stumbled out of the gate this gen. Nearly all of sony's most anticipated exclusives are still not released, gow aside, so those games would have been unable to help ps4 without third party.
actually it's the other way round. Consoles NEED third-party support. What would you be playing between each first-party title? thin air?
If a console have only exclusive, then how many games would they have each year? 3? 4? These people are delusional.
Wow the PS4 leads by very significant margin.
I thought everyone wanted to play multiplats on the X because they are so superior with higher resolution! Lmao
They are superior. There just isn't enough Xbox sales and people buying games for them
That, and the majority of X purchases are from prior Xbone/ Xbone S users.
I think that was sublimes point, it was said that Xbox 1 x would sell better because it was the power that mattered but by the looks of it power wasn't the deciding factor in ps4 being over double the install base it was the games.
Do you really believe that? Superior? Multiplats are far more frequent then console exclusives and I don't see that driving up sales. It's so amazing to see the most powerful home console is a glorified dust collector.
Higher resolutions in the mentioned system is irrelevant. They should focus in games demonstrating supposed superiority, so they can have an identity, personality, make a difference.
It's crazy that the company with the least money is the one spending the most (in order to give people games) and dominating the market. They are also the company of the big 3 console manufacturers that is currently supporting VR and leading that market. It's surprising that with all that money Microsoft went back on their word with VR and never took a chance in the handheld market. You can really tell how differently Sony and Microsoft value their gaming division. Gaming is everything to Sony and it shows, it's their main source of revenue whereas gaming is not nearly as integral to Microsoft. Windows is their primary focus.
PS4 has the biggest install base. No shock there to see PS4 be no1.
look at these charts from 2013/2014, 2014/2015, from the start PS4 lead the way it is not just install base.
PS4 has had the largest install base since just about day one though, so install base is definitely a factor. EA announced that Xbox sold 29.7 million units, and PS4 is at 79 million or so. If you think those almost 50 million other sold consoles aren't a large factor in the amount of sold games you are fooling yourself.
Very impressive and understandable considering the install base of PS4. I got AC Origins and FarCry 5 on PS4 and that translates to all 3rd Party titles.
Most of the people here are sony fans that typically insult ubiosft games, but now they are happy ubisoft sells more software on ps4 :)
Uh, everyone insults Ubisoft's games.
This is sales data, it simply shows how well PS4 is doing. It really isn't about whether or not i agree with Ubisoft as a company.
no it doesn’t, it shows that ps4 gamers don’t make smart purchases. Now the ps4 is doing well, there are plenty of other stats that show it is. But let’s make a comparison, on pc for example farm simulator outsells call of duty now while ps4 gamers still keep throwing money at it... lol Any publisher that makes more from Xbox one than pc Is probably putting out mostly crap games.
Lol it's ironic isn't it. Glad someone else clocked that 🤣
When hurt. . . Change the narrative Kev has some kinda bee in his bonnet today . It's cool bro, there's enough casual ps fans out there to buy into their games. . No need to act so annoyed. . Relax brother. .Oh and septic. .time to break fast
Hurt by what? I think it’s funny.
I like Rayman.....
Generalizing is fun ! I'm sure that all the "Sony fans" on N4G make up the vaste majority of PS4 owners in the world all 80 or so million of them.......or perhaps the 100 or so that don't like Ubisoft didn't buy any of their games and wouldn't matter if they did or didn't. I really don't see your point here besides trying to be a troll, isn't that reportable on here ?
Good to see that a majority of PC gamers don't support shit developers.
That's more likely due to UPlay than their lack of desire to play the game. UPlay is pretty crappy.
No it’s really the games, pc gamers aren’t buying into crap like the division, watchdogs, and horrible dlc practices while ps4 gamers just eat it up and sell it back to gamestop lol.
Yeah, because EA doesn't exist on PC. Sorry, but PC gamers are just as much to blame for current MT and DLC practices as the console gameres are.
@Kevnb "No it’s really the games, pc gamers aren’t buying into crap like the division, watchdogs, and horrible dlc practices while ps4 gamers just eat it up and sell it back to gamestop lol." But we sure do spend a lot of money on microtransaction crap from MMO-s and MOBA-a... Both side of the coin (console community and pc community) have their fair share of flaws when it come to things like this. Saying one side is worse than the other, while not acknowledging own flaws says a lot.
I wouldn't be surprised to see Microsoft Dominates in Microsoft Sales.
People ignore the numbers although ps4 dominated it lost shares its number of domination lower, same with Xbox,.......pc switch and others pick up their numbers..... And get this theres only 3 games on switch compare to the many others have so 5 percent is good
Switch didn't exist in the fiscal period before this one. I'm no finance expert, but I'm guessing that may have something to do with it.
And xbox dudes will say... but but but its because sony has 79 million consoles! And to that i say... well maybe if the xb1 had 79 million consoles sold it could keep up.
