Game review: State Of Decay 2 is a shambling mess | Metro

The State Of Decay concept still holds plenty of promise but this sequel is so broken that laughing at its bugs and glitches becomes its primary source of entertainment.

That's not what XboxTavern and TrueAchievements say.

Won't be making any new comments in State of Decay 2 threads, and this is the last time I'm going to say this, but it really is quite ridiculous.

Out of the top 5 reviews for SOTD2 on Metacritic - 3 out of 5 are MS sites.

Out of the top 5 reviews for Sea of Thieves Metacritic - 4 OUT OF 5 are MS sites.

Both games would be hanging by their a** in the low 60's without these padded reviews. You guys are getting played. Not to say their isn't some what of a biased nature in many aspects of reviewing and their publications, but this is ridiculous.

Still waiting for the review from Brad at GameCritics. We didn't get one for Sea of Thieves - funny that!

And what people seems to be forgetting is that this game was supposed to come out last year and was delayed to a mid 2019 release and it's still super buggy

I’m sure Sony sites pad their reviews too but at least non platform specific sites like Gamespot, IGN, etc scores usually agree with Sony Sites so the scores don’t seem far fetched. These pro Xbox sites do a disservice to fans with these overly impressive scores that stray far from the average. There is nothing about this game deserving of a 9. Nothing.

Sony don't need to 'pad' their reviews. The games speak for themselves. When you put as much time and passion into a game like Sony 1st party does, then reviews usually take care of themselves.

JesusBuiltmyHotrod2169d ago

MS games have always gotten boosted from MS centric sites, I noticed this last gen as well. PS centric sites on the other hand give PS exclusives bad scores when warranted.

RainbowBrite2169d ago

Well you got like plenty of Sony sites to compensate. The game looks awful by the way

StormSnooper2169d ago

I’m not sure if they rate Xbox games. I maybe wrong.

@gamerzero

It's not even the "final stretch", this game was supposed to be released last year and was delayed for 6+ months and it's still like this.

showtimefolks2169d ago

Totally forgot about that they got extra time and resources yet still released a average game

It's an easier decision to put these games on ganepass because ms much rather make $10 than nothing

The bias out there is pretty bad. Reminds me of what you see with politics and journalism. Companies exert control with access (early game copies, interviews, exclusive coverage) and advertising. If you see a site get exclusive press access to something, you can bet they had to do something for it (cough...Digital Foundry...cough)

Both Sea of Thieves and State of Decay 2 are hovering in the 66-70 range on Metacritic and Open Critic but i'd have to believe both games would be sitting in the 60-64 range had they not received all that help from Xbox review sites.

rainslacker2169d ago

Even Gamingbolt only gave it a 6. Gamingbolt is essentially a MS site.

Granted, I do see a lot of 7 and 8 reviews on N4G as well, and I haven't played it, so I'm not going to make a judgement. But even the good reviews seem to point to it being broken, but still fun to play because of it's addictive nature.

Cueil2169d ago

Maybe... just MAYBE they came in as a fan of the series understanding what they were getting into and were extremely happy with the game. It's an opinion piece people and if you go and look many sites not trying to tank the game are giving it between a 6-8 which is above average to good. No one came into this game expecting engrossing story lines those are sort of generated as you grow attached to your party. Could they have done more, sure, but this game initially was the State of Decay MMO. As for Xbox as a whole... you people in the reply section do realize that Xbox has more power in the company now than it has ever had before. That Azure started it's life off as Xbox Live and that it brings in significant profits. Will everything eventually move into the cloud? Probably, but I think we are a significant time away from that happening and by then we'll have seen technology make a substantial shift.

conanlifts2168d ago (Edited 2168d ago )

Now firstly if the game is overly buggy that is not really excusable. Currently i am installing it on the Xbox x so will see for myself. Interestingly the day 1 update is 14gb, so either they have added another patch ( the other patch wax 6gb) or this is just the x update size.

But what is random is everyone automatically agreeing with scores of 4 and hating on scores of 9. The game has a meta around 70. So scores of 9 are 2 above the average compared to 3 below for scores of 4. The outliers are the 4 scores more than the 9. So if you believe the 4's the 9's should also be accepted.
