Sea of Thieves never needed fair-weather fans or hype - it just needed a core community.
Didn't help Lawbreakers none...
That didn't have MS behind it, wanting to make it a massive IP.
CliffyB wanted to make Lawbreakers into a " Billion Dollar Franchise".
And he lacked the creative ability to make it sustainable much less a great success to an audience drowning in online MP shooters. Much like MS, who at least have the money to prop up their efforts longer.
Also: -Lawbreakers was competing with games like Fortnite and PUBG. SoT has no competition. -I can't find any metrics in the article which show evidence of "losing players", or even when I looked online. To me, people watching the game on Twitch isn't a solid metric for player counts declining on this game. It assumes too much. Anyone interested now knows what to expect from watching the Beta, and can rent it for $10 via Game Pass if they want to see how it is. Why would they watch it at this rate? If, however, Twitch/Mixer is considered a "valid metric" for player counts to some people, I wonder how many people will watch SoT again when the first DLC comes out? If viewers begin watching again, it can be assumed that people will remain interested as new content comes out. If counts stay low, however, it suggests that the DLC won't help the franchise recover from releasing early and in an unfinished state. It's just a waiting game at this point.
Everything gets spun nowdays
Right, as usual, what these type will do is blame gamers. It was gamers that made this game bad and now that the 'right' gamers are left this game can shine. Utter bullshit from Microsoft's asshole lickers.
It’s the best thing to happen for Rare because hopefully it discourages them from making another game like it
Rare will likely be closed down before they're allowed to be creatively free. Phil need to show that he understands what MS have been making for the past few years. If not from the inception of the division, if it still is one.
Actually, Microsoft has allowed Rare a lot of creative of created freedom. ( http://www.purexbox.com/new... If anything MS should have more strictly regulated the studio. Rare started up numerous projects with making valuable progress on them. For example when Rare presented Perfect Dark Core to MS after working on the title for a year, only one level was completed and Joanna Dark didn't even have a proper character model.
Rare makes Xbox avatars among other things. Microsoft ain’t gonna shut them down when they still see some value in them
The standards on Xbox keep dropping steadily. It has already gone below my ex's when she wants money
Xbot yells "SUPER SPIN ATTACK" lol
I disagree completely. If you're pushing this whole GAAS thing, you need a high, consistent player count to keep it afloat. That includes those "casuals" and "bandwagon jumpers". I understand trying to find a positive in a negative. But this one is overreaching a bit too much. There is NO positive outlook for an online product losing customers.
