Contrary to what this article says, I think we've not seen enough AAA VR games and seen more great novelty/arcade type games from the medium so far. Yeah we have RE7, Skrim, Fallout, WipEout etc, but I think the future will be home to more of those kinds of games as standard. As the hardware to run these experiences get more advanced it will be more reasonable to achieve and more commonplace.
The better the sense of presence the more immersive the experience can be. With higher resolution, complete elimination of the screen door effect, and technology like foveated-rendering - there's so many areas that VR can take gaming that this article didn't explore. And that's what VR is... an exploration, a rewriting of the rulebook and discovering new ways to play and news ways to make people feel. This article just reminds me of the people that say "graphics can't get better than this" and all that diminishing returns stuff. People aren't going to get bored of playing AAA games in immersive VR if it becomes more immersive.
