Before I begin my parade-raining, dream-crushing, actually-what-you-like-is-bad analysis of one of the most popular video games of my lifetime, let me make something clear: I like The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.
If you like it, why do you say you're about to embark on all those negatives about it? Quite the contradiction.
Because its the excuse people use when they get flak for something obviously, cause they can go back and say "I said I liked it". Nothing against the author there, just stating the obvious. Me personally, I enjoyed what game had to offer in some parts but it was far from perfect like many made it out to be. Especially the story IMO
Skyrim: the worlds most special edition/re-least game of all time sounds more accurate to me. Hell I bet Bethesda still has a couple more editions in the works. Edit: Is there a game with more editions/re-releases out there?
@UltraNova Several, for example street fighter 2.
I really enjoyed the game. But it is true. Skyrim is a very okay game. The combat is okay. The characters/NPCs are okay. The graphics okay. The story and narrative were okay. The ending... okay at best. It was more unique back then. It had a huge map that encouraged exploration and hooked you.
It's a good game, but it has a lot of flaws. Flaws that most players and reviewers were happy to overlook.
What were the flaws? Obviously every game has flaws(and overlooked ones), but this game wasn't touted for perfection.
Like every bethesda developed game that's has the ES or Fallout name. They need a massive kick up the ass because their games might tell the best stories ever but the gameplay is always a mundane glitchfest that gets 10s which they don't deserve.
People overlook the flaws because of all the things they got right. To be fair, there's a lot going on under the hood.
they never fixed sli water flicker how about that glaring flaw eidolon
Just because you like something, you shouldn't pretend it's perfect. In fact, doing so is what turns fans into fanboys. Considering the problems of the things you like is the first step to not overreact when another person points out one of them. For example, I really like Xenoblade Chronicles 2, but oh lord how many problems that game has. I could spend all day talking about its problems, but it doesn't change the fact that I enjoyed the 70+ hours I sunk into it.
Well this is going to get clicks
Clickbait much? Skyrim is and was amazing.
Do you even know what clickbait is? Or do you just throw that out whenever you see something you disagree with?
Outside of a beautifully designed terrain map and musical score it's bug ridden, souless garbage. Boring NPCS, meaningless fetch quests, boring political plot, repetitive looting, insulting puzzles, amazingly stupid AI and way to much random RNG quests that have absolutely no meaning. It has it's moments. The guilds, Sheogorath and a quest here or there about cannibalism, vampires, ghosts etc. But for the most part it's just... Lacking of life/soul. Skyrim is an ocean wide, inch deep experience. If it wasn't for the best mod community in the entire world, it would have been forgotten long ago.
Not to mention some of the worst combat in any action rpg. It hasn't evolved much since Daggerfall or even Arena.
Is it on calculators yet?XD
I am still waiting on the "toaster" and/or "fridge" edition. 😎
It's one of the best open world RPGs. Not top 10 but definitely in the top 20.
Skyrim was very bland and felt outdated. Perhaps its the style of RPG they make but i think the whole game design needs an overhaul for VI.
I think it was great for its time. Though even back in the day wasn’t a marvel graphically or in the animation dept
As much as i enjoy skyrim and fallout, ive always been conflicted about them. I have fun in them....but on many levels they are broken and disjointed. Combat is clunky as all hell, storylines are usually very dry in the way they are told, albeit many layers of depth. And they are buggy to boot. Many other games with a single one of these issues would be torn to shreds yet i think we like it because of the options available. We get to act out the fantasy. Even if the way we control the fantasy is middling.
Bethesda take quantity over quality. If we waited for a perfect game, we would never get it. they are ambitious in scope almost to a fault sometimes, but it doesn't remove from the fun factor, which is utmost important. If they made a more linear (and polished) game, it wouldn't be as popular.
Kind of an old game to be dwelling upon. What's next? "Super Mario Bros 3: Overrated?"
