April charts: God of War takes No.1, Nintendo Labo has slow start

God of War debuted at the top of the monthly charts for April, to very strong sales considering it released late in the month, on April 20th. Meanwhile, Far Cry 5 had to settle for No.2, with sales only down 36 per cent month-on-month

People don’t take quickly to cardboard

Big shocker

zaherdab2182d ago

Maybe they just didn't package it right ...

Dragonscale2182d ago

@zaher, more like they didn't price it right. 60 bux for a box of cardboard is hilarious tbh.

zaherdab2182d ago

Lol yea i'd be really carrful when unboxing it not to tesr the actual prosuct up ... 80 $ for card board ... wonder if they will sell us paper 150 $ next

spektical2181d ago

I got it full knowing its overpriced but I like building stuff like legos.

however the people defending the proce point are outrageous. the nintendo switch reddit is full of delusional fans justifyiout the price

windblowsagain2181d ago

Isn't Nintendo Labo packaged in cardboard.

Cardboardception

Ceaser98573612181d ago (Edited 2181d ago )

Only in Japan Cardboard Lebo is a HIT and did beat GOW and rest of the World GOW is taking the top spot

majiebeast2182d ago (Edited 2182d ago )

Guess Nintendo fans love for Nintendo ends at cardboard.

Meanwhile GOTY of War destroying everything insight.

doggo842182d ago

"GOTY of war"

Good one! Lol enjoyed that one

xboxcult2182d ago (Edited 2182d ago )

No one wants to pay $70 for cardboard and tech demo games. I admire Nintendo for there imaginative thinking and risk taking though.

OffRoadKing2181d ago

Cardboard is no match for the LEVIATHAN AXE!!!

CaptainObvious8782181d ago (Edited 2181d ago )

So nintedo fans DO have some little standards after all.

They draw the line at overpriced cardboard. Although, there's a few delusional ones at reddit defending this.

When we found out both God of war and Labo were coming out on the same day, there were some fanboys who were far too confident in saying how labo is going to destroy GOW, wonder what happened

Neonridr2182d ago

depends on the region I guess. In Japan, for example, I fully expect Labo to sell more overall than God of War.

Wallstreet372182d ago (Edited 2182d ago )

Lol we all know Japans love for everything Nintendo but they dont represent the biggest or the majority of the market so thts a given and irrelevant. Its like us forecasting tht anything microsoft will bomb in Japan.

We need to see NA numbers tht will paint an overall picture.

Neonridr2182d ago

@wallstreet37 - I love that argument. This is one country that has still managed to purchase like 25 million 3DS hardware units, almost 7 million PS4's, like 4+ million Nintendo Switches. Splatoon 2, Monster Hunter World, Mario etc.. all 2 million unit sellers. Why do we pretend like they don't count in hardware / software sales?

Neonridr2182d ago

@Wallstreet37 - you forget that I also support Sony with my Pro, Vita and PSVR along with the PC market with my Gaming PC and Oculus Rift. Sorry that I like to actually support more than one company, sue me I guess.

What I am saying to you is that you claim that Japan is such a small percentage of sales, yet how come they are the only "market" that constitutes one country? North America includes Canada, US and Mexico and then Europe counts how many markets? You pass off Japan as insignificant, yet look how much hardware and software they purchase alone. I understand everyone likes to write off Japan since it is pro Nintendo and thus doesn't sit well with the overall agenda here at N4G of Sony supremacy over everything, but for you to ignore sales numbers because it's another region is just silly.

Kryptix2181d ago Show
Ceaser98573612181d ago

Ya only in Japan LABO took the 1st spot GOW is 3rd but GOW is ruling everywhere

Neonridr2179d ago

@kryptix - Xbox? Maybe Nintendo, I don't even own an Xbox this gen. I had a 360 last gen sure, but I mean I guess I have a gaming PC, if that lumps me in with the Xbox crowd. I could understand if you said Nintendo fanboy, since Nintendo will always be near and dear to me. But I am a gamer first, I don't care where the games come from, I support Sony and Nintendo full steam this gen, as I own multiple hardware from both companies.

I fail to see what is so wrong with that. I don't drink the kool-aid here at N4G, and I call stuff out when it smells like BS.

Labo was in 1st and 3rd place in Japan, so go figure.

Araragifeels 2182d ago

Paying for a cardboard box that have Nintendo brand is the future now.

Neonridr2182d ago (Edited 2182d ago )

yet if Sony created it, somehow we would be calling it imaginative and ingenious. Go figure I guess. Maybe actually try it before you make jokes Araragifeels. Overall reviews for it has been very positive.

badz1492182d ago

@Neon

"yet if Sony created it, somehow we would be calling it imaginative and ingenious."

you can start the Sony name calling when they make anything cardboard like Labo. until then, your argument is invalid!

-Foxtrot2182d ago

@Neonridr

Well it's like motion controls last gen

Microsoft did Kinect...nobody gave a shit

Sony did Move...not AS many gave a shit

So it's not a "Oh if Sony/Microsoft did it..." scenario, people would call them just as much. Look at how much people were groaning when people thought those little PlayStation figures were going to be like Amiibo's

Silly Mammo2182d ago

@neon

2 words: Wonder Books

Neonridr2179d ago

wonderbooks.. I remember plenty of people around here calling it "creative" and cool for kids. Labo apparently is none of that, regardless of how well it has been received by reviewers. But let's not take their word for it, let's just listen to the trolls on the internet who apparently know the truth. Must be a monday..

You mean assembling predetermined cardboard creations wasn't a hit? Imagine my shock.

Neonridr2182d ago

it was in Japan and NA though. UK has never been as strong of a region for Nintendo as NA and Japan are.

thehitman13982181d ago

You have some kind of fetish neon....

#justsaying

Neonridr2179d ago

@thehitman1398 - thanks buddy.. I am very passionate about video games.

#worryaboutyourself

zeuanimals2181d ago

Dumb to launch it the same day as GOW, but it was obviously not gonna sell as well either way. It's a novel idea that I appreciate though. I don't understand the hatred for it, there's room in the gaming industry for more variation and new, good ideas. I'm all for it.

kneon2181d ago

I think any hatred about labo is mainly because it seems to be a rip off at the current price.

Might be in a minority here but I didn't enjoy any of the sections playing as Atreus or having companions at all. If I had my way it'd be Kratos on his lonesome from start to finish. Straightforward action gameplay without the endless boring chatter.
