A Bizarre PlayStation 4 5.53-01 System Update Was Just Released

This isn’t something that I’ve ever seen before. I was just sitting on my PS4 when a System Software Update called “5.53-01” was released. It only weighted in at 69mb and thankfully didn’t require my PlayStation 4 to start, but it did say that some games would require it to play online.

Is god of war 1.13 a pre-requisite for this?

I mean do you only see if after you install the god of war 1.13 patch?

Knushwood Butt173d ago

OK, well, I installed it, and now I'm enjoying God of War.

Thanks all.

This is a legit update. It is a very minor update and customers should not worry about it affecting any gameplay experience but it is fine to download and we would ask that you do. ^DK

From their official twitter helpline. Panic over! Phew ha

I did but couldn't find the info.

Anyway, this seems to be related-

"this update might be related to new privacy regulation in Europe which restricts how personal data is collected and handled. This new European Privacy Law, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), goes into effect on May 25th. ”

Not worry? All my friends games are now locked on their profiles. Mine included. Trying to unlock them does nothing. It’s glitched

What was the panic about? Sony just updated their software.lol

Are you one of these people who when updates a device, wears a hazmat suit?

Cobra951172d ago (Edited 172d ago )

FreakyFox, I don't get the panic either. It's a console, not an open system. System updates are normal and (for the connected) unavoidable. They're also 100% legit on the major consoles, so far. I don't think any hacker has figured out how to intrude into that process.
