Firewatch developer Campo Santo has been acquired by Valve for an unknown fee, the San Francisco-based developer has announced.
Valve buying a studio is unexpected and interesting at the same time. I wonder if we would ever see any Steam exclusive content, despite the fact that I've heard that Gabe doesn't believe in exclusive content. However, there wouldn't be much of a point to buying a studio, if said studio would be releasing content on Steam anyway.
They have more to gain by creating content for all platforms, rather than exclusives to Steam. By the way, Microsoft should go the same way.
Didn't see that coming.
Dammit give us LFD3!
Valve hasn't released a single game, produced or published, this entire gen. Neither has Blizzard. IDK Valve would even bother. All their best game designers have left over the last 5 years. Maybe Gabe's been snorting coke over at Notch's mansion who knows......
Valve supported most of their games with DOTA 2 being the last one they published in 2013. Blizzard: Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft 2014 Diablo III: Reaper of Souls 2014 World of Warcraft: Warlords of Draenor 2014 Heroes of the Storm 2015 StarCraft II: Legacy of the Void 2015 Overwatch 2016 World of Warcraft: Legion 2016 StarCraft: Remastered 2017 World of Warcraft: Battle for Azeroth 2018 the good news? Valve announced they are back into making games again.
So we will see a second Firewatch, but never a third...
They werent kidding when they said they are back into making games again. Once the best Developer in the industy is back!!!!!!
They'll only be back to me when they finally finish Half-life's story. Until then, they'll be dead to me as a development studio even if they make 100 games.
Firewatch was only decent and VotG sounds like it's going to be trash so this is not good news, why can't they just make good games on their own like they used to...
RIP Campo Santo
Valve isn't like Microsoft or EA. They don't just buy them, publish one game and then close the studio after they've done with them. They'll support them and encourage them to make better games with the extra resources available. This is good news for Campo Santo and gamers especially PC gamers.
Vavle is worst than anybody. You talk about supporting and that is true they support a couple games they made almost a decade ago. But, they have done nothing but, update them. New games are new games, updates are not new games. Most game developers at Valve have long left the fold because they have not had the opportunity to actually create games. Seriously, you mention Microsoft but the reason Bungie wanted to leave them is because they didn't want to just build Halo games. How do think the game developers felt at Valve not being able to actually create new games (even new versions of games say DOTA 3) just constantly updating older games year after year. Perhaps that is one reason they need buy Campo because everybody has long ago left Valve proper. People live in the past too much with Valve; there is this reverence to a game builder that really no longer exists.
Hasn't Olly Moss left though? He pretty much handled art direction.
