Watch God of War Director Cory Barlog as he checks out the first reviews released a few days ago while getting emotional and thanking his team.
That's adorable!!!! He's so humble by the stellar reception for the game. Hard not to like the guy. Hopefully, Sony allows him to create his own IP. Congrats to him and the team because it seems like they did a phenomenal job :D Can't wait for tomorrow!!!!
We love you Corey Barlog and your whole team behind this epic game, i knew from that first debut at e3 2016 that this game was going to be a smash hit especially in the end of that trailer where u finally see kratos have some kind of emotion from him. I knew this was going to be an emotional but epic journey. I'm so glad most reviewers felt the same way about your game and gave it all the praise it deserved. I'm actually buying 2 copies for me and my nephew. Thanks again for another smash blockbuster game Corey and studio and for Sony giving u guys time to make such a masterpiece. Well done.
Congratulations to Cory, SM and Sony for this gen defining game. The risk payed off in the best possible way. I'm truly happy and filled with hope that SP games like GOW are keeping my favorite thing-games- alive and kicking. 1 hr left until I get my hands on this gem. Cant freaking wait.
What's this water coming out of my face?? Haha well done man. Well deserved. 5 years of hard graft paid off.
Epic game. The fruits of 5 years of labour, being released into the world on April 20th.
Yeah, this is so awesome to see that kind of emotion from him. You can tell how much hard work has gone into this game. I'm loving the game so far. It's incredible.
Damn! I am gonna cry... I am happy that Sony and SM took the risk and believed in this guy. And Hard work finally paid off. Congratulations to everyone who was behind God of War. You guys created a Masterpiece imo.. I played for an Hour after it got unlocked and had to hit the bed because had to wake up early for some business i need to take care off. But will get back to and will explore everything this game has to offer. Man! The Game looks breath taking and calling back the Leviathan is so so so Scarifying..
Stupid life commitments 😂 I couldn't put it down and it's now 5 in the morning and have to get up for work in a few hours. Played about 4 hours and I'm blown away. I've barely scratched the surface but I'm already getting masterpiece vibes off it. Can't wait to play more after what will inevitably be a very unproductive day in work.
lol stupid typo SCARIFYING LMAO!! *SATISFYING*
I got a feeling they will after this
This is how you know that he poured his heart and soul into this game and it's probably the reason why the game is getting all the praise it's received. Congratulations Cory Barlog and the Santa Monica team. You all deserve it!
So happy for him and the team! He had a vision and when no one thought it would work he stayed the course and wound up raising the bar for what an action adventure RPG can be!
He fully deserves it! I hope the game will sell millions. My copy arrives tomorrow!
It will sell millions, might even break records,a well known I.P with the combination advertisement everywhere along with one of the best collections of stellar reviews ever it's bound to sell millions.
Yeah, it's bound to do really well.
Will SSM benefit from more sales? Will they get a percentage of the total revenue? I would really hooe they do.
5 million in one week
@Zool 08 “It will sell millions, might even break records,a well known I.P with the combination advertisement everywhere along with one of the best collections of stellar reviews ever it's bound to sell millions.” I’m sure it’s going to sell very well. NPD analyst Mat Piscatella: “So, my confidence is high that God of War will be the biggest exclusive debut on the PS4. Only question I have left is how high is the sky for a primarily story driven, non service game. Haven't seen a game like this rated this highly in years, so this will set the benchmark.“
It’s out of stock in amazon currently so that says something
100 million in a week :)
I think we Gamers forget how long these guys and girls have been working on a game, and I know we give them a lot of grief when they get it wrong, but man wow, maybe we should give them the same praise and thank you's when they get it right..... So Director Cory Barlog if by some miracle you end up reading this... Let me just say this... Dude your work is so appreciated, I like many gamers live and breathe to enjoy games, and I enjoy nothing more then when a game is done really well, Video Gamers are crazy and sometimes loony at times, but one thing I don't think comes across is we just really love games... And we just want an Awesome Game. So Thank you for hitting this thing out the park, I promise to buy the next one too, no questions asked, I hope the game sales a ridiculous amount of copies... Dude you rock, tell the team we Gamer's really appreciate you guys... And thanks for sharing this video, its nice to see a game director really care about if the game does well... Long Live the King -- The God Of War
Damn you guys are are trying hard to reach those deep emotional strings of mine... Nicely said.
Thank you Barlog we need more game Director like you.
today i just return home from a tired day at job....and i can say i have a hard ,streesfull and very demanding job...when people recognizes your work and praise y for that its one of the best feelings in the world....as it is to play this game...just amazing
Cory and the team deserves that recognition and bonus.
This is awesome, you can really see how much this meant to him and that he put his heart and soul into something he wanted to have be great for fans. Great guy, Cory deserves all the praise in the world and we as Playstation gamers are lucky to have him. I hope he gets his own IP as well, he would do amazing things with it.
I knew this game was going to be great and soon to break records, especially after that awesome God of War reveal back at E3 2016. That orchestra was the truth right there. https://www.youtube.com/wat...
Now that was an E3 moment. As epic as the game itself.
There are many of us out here that truly appreciate the hard work and dedication this industry sometime entails. To many of us it is more than a hobby and we have it all in thanks to people like Cory that pour years of their lives into the games we play. It warms my heart to see that this release means something to him on a deep level and I can't wait to see the story he wanted to tell. Congratulations to you and the team at SM, truly a momentous achievement in a time when the industry needed it most. My collector's edition is in the mail and this video makes me want to buy 5 more copies for all my friends just to support.
5 years in the making. True blood, sweat, and tears.
Eurogamer - “Despite eye catching changes, the heart of the series remains gloriously unaltered”Cory is so genuine, and his reaction was powerful and just so inspiring & uplifting to watch. 5 years of Cory & SSM trying to craft this whole new vision/take on Kratos & the God of War series, and being excited about it, but also having a lot of fear because you don’t know how the public will react to it. Will they love it? Hate it? Hate us for going away from what was familiar and trying something really different? I can’t imagine the worries they had. Just like with ND and The Last of Us, Neil & Bruce & the team were worried people would hate it. It was really different than anything they’d done before. Going from Uncharted to THIS. It’s just crazy, right? Well, that paid off for them. This new idea that they were so worried about, became one of the single greatest games of all time, my personal fav game of all time, and raised the bar for video game performances. God of War reminds me of that, in a sense. In the end, EVERYONE over at Sony Santa Monica crafted a remarkable game that, I believe has gone above and beyond what so many people expected, not just those who’ve already reviewed it, but for the developers themselves. Much love & respect to all at Sony Santa Monica. Your passion, love, care, humility & respect for this new God of War & the world/character of Kratos/son, shines ever so brightly. I genuinely hope more developers look at this video, along with the finished game, and are truly inspired to create their future games with passion, love, care, and humility in their hearts (yes, I went there lol) it’s so much more than just making $millions back on the game you created. If you fill the game with loot boxes, lazy 4 hour campaigns, and all that kinda garbage, thinking “People will still buy our game & we’ll make way more than we spent” because your just greedy, you really need to think why you make video games. It’s a business, I get that. But when money is all your really focused on while making your game, thats just sad & you've lost the real value of what video games are to gamers “in my opinion”
Dude, I admit....I cried.
You're not alone. He's just such a sincere stand up dude, it's hard not to empathize with him. I'm really happy for everyone involved, and I'll be binging this game hard over the weekend.
Great. I've been waiting to see this. He said he was going to share it at some stage. EDIT- I could watch a video of him reacting to reviews for over an hour lol. Well, I'm going back to God Of War. I've had a migraine since before I started GOW, I've been taking a few breaks, I'm going back in. On the extra Challenge mode.
That's awesome man, I'm playing through the game and its so great so far :D. Good job Cory and the team.
The praise is legit... man going trough the first rage mode made me filled with adrenaline.
Never let the gaming media have this much control over your emotions.
Kind of hard not to, when you spend years upon years of your life working on something that is going to be judged.
Exactly. That's why I felt for the devs who made Rime and were heartbroken by the negative reactions of GAF
If the game got panned and he was raging like Kratos, your point would stand. There's no shame in what he did or said. I'm just happy he had the balls to share this.
Just picked up my copy from Game stop, can't wait to play, but I have for the install. This game is going to be epic, thank Cory, Santa Monica and if course Sony.
Thanks to you and your team for making the best game ever made IMO, simple put you are the best at what you do. I can’t believe this game it is an 11 in ever category !!!! Amazing !!! Please continue making games !!! Class act, you deserve all the accolades ❤️
It’s so nice to see people that are humbled and appreciative. There are far too many of the opposite these days. Sounds like this games is amazing and I definitely need to add it to my collection.
Dang, I really teared up watching this. Congrats Cory and SSM! You guys poured your hearts into GoW and it really shows. You may even achieve a 96 metacritc when it’s all said and done. Thank you for all your hard work!
Well deserved man honestly congrats👌
That was a really nice video. Congrats, Cory. Your hard work paid off. You're absolutely right that sometimes crazy ideas can make something special, so keep the crazy ideas coming. I remember years ago when you talked about this idea of soft-rebooting into a new mythology, and I always thought it was the best way forward for the series. Can't wait to play the game tomorrow night.
Mr. Barlog You deserve this. I hope this masterpiece elevates you and get to make your own vision possible. I bow to you. My hard earned cash and time which i don’t have almost will go into this beautifully crafted piece of work. Every second played will be thanking you and your team for all these years of hard work.
When you work hard, the rewards will come. Cory and his team clearly worked their ass off to make such a masterpiece. I hope Sony allows him to do more under their name and give them a nice vacation.
Only Reason I'm Cryin' ... is because of the adrenaline ಥᴗಥ (dudes' night out)
congratulations to all of you incredibly talented people at sony santa monica. as an artist and sculptor. cant wait to download and play this masterpiece.looks to reset the bar for games quality. god bless to all involved.
Game of the generation. Take notes Nintendo, this is how you innovate on ALL fronts.
I must say Corey, even though Ascension was the best looking and playing game in the series, I was totally over God of War. I felt like it was one game to many and I was bored of it. I am so glad the new direction you took. It was unexpected, bold and so brave and if you hadn't done it I feel I would still be blase about a new game. As it stands it looks like we have one of the best games ever made and it's going to launch you into superstar status. Well done mate, you and your team deserve it.
It's good to see your hard work paid off and that people recognize that. There are developers that do it for the money, and that shows, but when it's not about that, it shows. This game apparently shows it wasn't about the money, it was about giving gamers an experience worth far more than $60, that's no amount of money could ever cover. We all have projects we take great pride in and give it our best, and it's tough to see that trampled and hope those efforts pay off. Surely he won't actually read this but congrats to him and the team. There's a stark difference between David Jaffe and Corey Barlow. God of War may not have been without Jaffe, there's no denying he's the Father of God of War, but Corey Barlow has had greater success in the gaming industry while Jaffe is bouncing around struggling to find his footing and going back to Sony allows him what he needs. It's probably time for Jaffe to suck it up and go back home to Sony Santa Monica. And Stig? What happened to him? He left after tanking a project, but look at God of War III, he has talent.
Stig is at Respawn, been working on a Star Wars game for a while.
Correction: It's Barlog not Barlow. Reply: I think it's quite possible that Jaffe ends up at the helm of the next God of War. Cory Barlog already stated that he'd like to work on a new IP after God of War so the job is up for grabs. As far as I know Sony Santa Monica initially wanted him to direct this game but he was busy with Drawn to Death at the time. The studio behind Drawn to Death ("The Bartlet Jones Supernatural Detective Agency") has just been shut down last month and Jaffe should be free at the moment. I've just spoken to Jaffe on twitch a week ago. He is definitely very excited about the new God of War. It seems like all conditions are met if SSM still want him and if he's up for the challenge to follow this game up with a sequel.
Oh, and there's no multi-player. I wasn't going too but SUCK ON THAT MICROSOFT! I really love how Sony have stopped and taken a look at things and seen the value of and have taken into heavy consideration those of us that take our hard earned money into the store and browse the glass game cases for that a game we take home, lock ourselves in the game room, shut off the lights, turn up the sound and immerse ourselves in a story, just like when we were kids and dad would pull out the story book or tell a story of his own. That feeling you get through the game and just before the end credits, you don't want it to end and when it's done, it's so satisfying but you're also depressed the ride is over. You can't get that from multi-player and if your Internet sucks for whatever reason, or the servers Shut down you're not up the creek. You pull that story book off the shelf and "read it". Sony are the Apple of the gaming industry, thank you for not leaving us single-player enthusiasts in the dust because when you think of us, this is what transpires and WE FRIGGIN LOVE IT! Microsoft can't seem to understand that, and in true Microsoft fashion, they can't take that Leap of faith, they have to see it tried and true before they buy in and by then, it's too late. Never innovative, always behind and thus always second best. Good on you too Sony.
This is every reason why I bought my God of War PS4 and the Stone Mason edition on the side.
Obviously this game deserves stellar reception. In India, we people used to stand in a queue to get movie tickets on the very first days of the movie release, but now I stood in the queue to get this game dvd and that was an awesome experience. After i got God of War dvd in my hands, I felt like "oh my god it is not a dream".
As he should from all of these reviews praising the game with top scores. I just sampled a little bit of the game because I have to get up early for work but I must say I got chills from the opener & the game just looks amazing on the Pro & my Samsung 4k hdr tv. Cory another job well done, pat yourself on the back!!
I am just a little disappointed that this guy isn't a 50 foot tall fire monster (I know it's not spelled the same but I was still hoping)....ANYWAY! Good for him and his whole team.
You shall not pass!!!! :P
When i saw gow scores i cried too i was worried that critics might give the game low scores but cory barlog and his team did such a fantastic job that a few critics gave the game scores lower than 10
Thank you sir for an amazing game.
Wellll deserved!!!! You and team put your hearts into this game and its high quality sits right in the throne of hzd and uncharted. Bought 3 copies for myself and family.
I'm happy for him. Understandable reaction especially considering the huge departure from the traditional GOW games. He must be relieved that it reviewed so well
