Sony’s little-loved handheld, the Vita, is rumored to be winding down, and the gaming world will be lesser for its absence.
It's dead let it go all ready!.
Vita was dead 3 years ago. Who are these people trying to kid?
It's dead in America. But it's still alive in Japan. You might still get a couple of jrpgs and some indies. I still love the Vita though. I got to replay FFX on my bus commute recently. Now I'm replaying Parasite eve on it. It's my PlayStation classics machine.
Sony had already killed it since the second year of its release. The Vita had alot of potential but sadly Sony dropped it so quick. Here’s hoping Sony will release another portable to compete with Nintendo and support it properly next time.
Sony will be focusing on their successor to the PS4 which for them is a safer bet than a Vita follow up.
Safer but not better. The best thing for a company to do is broaden their scope because the only people that benefit from a company focusing on a single system are fanboys. Sony could have made more money on Vita if they just stuck to their guns and Switch proves it. They fell for the lie that smart phones are viable for gaming and practically handed the market for console quality games to Switch. Dark Souls would have been incredible on Vita.
@tehpees3 I agree with you. Games like Monster Hunter, GTA, and Dark Soul would have been perfect on the Vita. Sony has lot of first party studios and their working relationship with second party studio is great as well which mean they have enough manpower to support another portable console. I want Sony to be successful in portable market as well.
@Kun_ADR I really wish Sony would have given Vita a proper chance. They could have made more money, people playing mobiles aren't the same people who were going to buy Vita. You would think considering how long they've been here they'd know this.
It hasn't been for sale in Canada for at least the last 3 years, so it's been dead here for quite some time.
Vita technically never died in Canada it went out of production in around 2014 2015 give or take as did the PS Tv. You can still grab Vita games at Gamestop I always find a few new games popping up.
Still funny Vita managed to outlive Wii U
Wii U was so weird. I didn't understand shit about what it's really all about regarding no backup file transfers and wi fi screen sharing until I owned one for nearly a year. 4 years after the console initially came out...
I wonder if there will be a Vita 2 announced by Sony or maybe they gave up the handheld market since its dominated by Nintendo, cellphones and tablets shame I still enjoy my Vita I take it on the road with me and I enjoy my PS TV at home hell I still play my PSP every other time.
Let it be buried so Sony can launch a new handheld.
up til this year I played my vita more than my ps4, its winding down a bit but some 3rd party are still making games for it, Sony gave up on it as soon as it launched, never making any more first party games for it.
It is dead... at least for me since the system is literally dead. It wont load games, crashes all the time (usually in loading) etc... How am I supposed to play with that piece of junk?
Just bought a few games for my vita this week. It's the funniest system to collect games for. Although now everyone charges double or triple prices for the games.
It's pretty much been the remote playback system for me since the ps4 launched but now I have Xperia devices which function better as remote playback devices so it collects dust until I pull it out to play Spyro again
The Vita died because of Sony not putting much marketing into the product. They didn’t even announce any games for the handheld at the first E3 after release.
They killed it in 2015 when they ended developmental support. Its Dead
Even if it's dead...I will still use it...because I really like playing on it.
I love my Vita. It's still the best handheld of all time in my opinion. Nowhere else can I play Killzone, God of War, Patapon, Ratchet and Clank, Sly Cooper, Final Fantasy 1-10, Soul Sacrifice, Jak and Daxter, Tactics Ogre, Disgaea, Vagrant Story, Front Mission, and hundreds of other games spanning multiple generations of Playstation, and the best part? I can play them all anywhere. The Vita is the ultimate handheld, and even as it finally, officially dies I will still play it every day.
