This isn't the first interview I've seen with him and the dude is so quick witted and smart. I'd love to hang out with him haha
Will you be playing at altitude? Or maybe playing in your treehouse? That was funny. Cory is gonna be laughing all the way to the bank on that one.
People actually think these aren't scripted. lol
I usually prefer to read articles than to watch videos, but I have to say this guy's delivery is hilarious and just great. David Jaffe, when he originally created God of War, was known to yell, scream and curse at his employees so they would channel their frustration and rage into the game. Now that the rage of God of War has been well established in the series, Cory Barlog is going to slam us with his giant box of Norse tissues! Bringin' the feels like the almighty force of Thor's hammer! Can't wait!
I so much want to see Kratos rip God of jokes..ehm Thunder's... head off then take his hammer and pummel his daddy, Odin to a pulp! Cant wait for this gem!!
TlOU jokes got old already people. Come with something new
No offense, but when I first saw it and the way it was laid out I couldn't help but make that connection as well. I mean it seems Sony has a thing for close camera 3rd person games this gen. But despite people making TLoU references, it isn't turning me off from the game. It makes me want to play it even more due to wanting to see where this new direction takes Kratos & son.
Good! I like to see my characters on screen, not a walking gun
Well yeah I'm sure it's been influenced by TLOU to some extent, which is a good thing. Every game developer is influenced by great games that came before and that they admire.
There's practical applications for centering the camera closer on your characters. They're your characters and you may wanna see how they act in every situation and it brings you closer to the action. And they only have two games with the camera that close, TLOU and GOW. MS has their own game that's shorthanded to GOW that uses it, as well as Quantum Break. Uncharted, Infamous, etc. Have typically been pretty zoomed out or can be and only get up close when its necessary, like when aiming.
@darthv72 Played through Uncharted 4: A Thief's End,, Horizon Zero Dawn, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Limb and then The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt basically one after the other. Then I tried to play Rise of the Tomb Raider and couldn't get into it for like a week. The story finally hooked me—but yeah, it's easy to go game-blind with all these third-person view games.
Same here, Aspiring. 1st person games were cool when they were new, but third person action games are and always will be the greatest way to play. Walking gun is absolutely tired.
It's not Sony trying to copy TLoU or having a thing for 3rd person close camera view, it's that in many cases this view turns out to be the best way to make a story driven action game. People want to see their character, they want to see them emote and this camera view offers the best choice to convey the type of story and gameplay they are trying to achieve. They aren't just attempting to mimic TLoU, but Sony as a whole deals in deep and moving narratives and companions help to achieve this by building a bond. If anything it mimics Logan more, but i'm sure God of War will stand on its own feet and prove that it is indeed its own entity rather than a copycat.
its not having a thing for the close camera 3rd person. its that the 3rd person and that camera allows sony's games to shine best. I mean honestly could you imagine playing uncharted or infamous in 1st person.
Well if the story is as beautifully narrated then count me in.
@SpinalRemains138 "but third person action games are and always will be the greatest way to play." If you would applied this as a opinion is one thing. But to apply it as fact is just dumb. 1st person shooters are some of the most popular games every year. And even though you say it's tired the fact remains it is not and just as popular as it ever has been.
Well... considering Cory himself directly said he took a lot of inspiration from ND and TLoU it's only obvious there will be some similarities. But at least he is taking inspiration from a great game, so why is that a bad thing?
It's not a bad thing at all,it's paying homage to developers he admires.
@Elda Exactly. The only time it would be an issue is if he was completely ripping off TLoU, but from what I'm seeing is he is taking all the great things about it's presentation, graphics, tones writing etc. and wrapping it up in a nice GoW package.
@spinal I didn't know From Software was a 1st party Sony studio?
"Come up with something new" Same could be said to Sony. Not all of their games need to be the same.
I up-chuckled a little bit in my mouth.
Except their games aren’t all the same.
I know right? Bloodborne is exactly like TLoU and inFamous and GoW 🙄 Most love Bloodborne due to its being different. Setting, music, gameplay, enemy design etc.. That game has millions begging for a sequel because it brought us something completely different.
The only thing is the same in here, is your fails troll attempts..
Yeah because HZD,dreams,Detroit become human,tearaway,lbp,Spider-Man, days gone,gt sport,MLB the show, ratchet and clank, bloodborne, infamous, ghos t of tshuima are all the same smh get some new material my dude.
I am not un un-abashed Sony drone, as many on this site are. That said, they churn out interesting, new IP at a fantastic rate. TLOU and this, specific GoW share nothing in common, outside of face-value similarities in camera style, and the fact there's a freaking kid.
Its not a joke though...
The only thing that is a joke is Microsoft's 2018 line up compared to Sony's and Nintendo's.
I was wanting to "Read Full Story," but it's a video.
With you. Sucks when there's a story that's interesting, you're conserving data, and it's a video without the transcript.
And what is funny is how infested ign comments are with Xbox fans... that’s why I do not even go there. Makes n4g look like a hippie love in compared to the trolls and bickering over there.
What is it? Mostly kids on that site?
A bit like this one
Popular sites/games generally attract more trolls/immature users, IGN has its fair share of fanboys on all platforms.
It changes depending on the site, IGN has more xbox fans and N4G has a ton more sony fans. Gotta pick your poison I guess.
its probably becasue all the aaa ps4 games seem to made on the same engine by the same people when its just them sharing the tech, but yeah all the games feel the same in one way or another, days gone tlou god of war etc.. they all have this same feel, not a bad thing at all
Directly from the future!
I get what you're saying. It's like games that use Unreal, you can just always sort of "tell". I do know that feeling on the Playstation...been this way since the PS3. Hell, maybe since the PS2 with Indigo Prophecy...thats where I first remember the whole " cinematic" feeling that the Playstation is known for now. You got plenty of down votes but I get you. Not a bad thing at all, but just like how the Xbox has its dude bro shooters and Forza thing, Playstation has its serious / cinematic thing.
One of the coolest game directors around!
The new God of War is basically a combination of TLoU and BloodBorne. I have no idea how being a combination of two of the best games ever made is somehow a bad thing..
Exactly! A combination of Bloodborne and Tlou sounds like a dream, I never understood how that is supposed to be an insult.
I don't know about it being an insult but it certainly is a departure from the tradition set forth by the previous games. I was apprehensive at first but i welcome the change in both style and story. I can really see this new (can't really call it a reboot) Norse centric story play out with some pretty epic confrontations.
Cory Barlog is the man , those were classic responses to some pathetic salty fanboys. lol
I think it's fun when devs have easter eggs of other games in their game like HZD. Long shot but wonder if GOW will have it.
i hope cory stays at SSM for more GOW or other games because last time after GOW2 was finished he left . honestly cory is the closest we will get to ever getting a GOW game fro david jaffe but cory and jaffe are close so hopefully stig i felt like made the weakest GOW(3)
You think GOW 3 was the weakest GOW? I believe Ascensions will be saying hi to you soon!
mad i don't consider that as a main core of GOW games i was talking more in line of GOW 1-3 GOW 3 could have been so much more. don't get me wrong i bought it, enjoy it and still have it. but overall going from ps2 to ps3 the graphics jumped but gameplay and storytelling could have been so much more.
Considering Cory Wrote GOW3, I'd say you just insulted His work. Stig directed it in the absence of Cory as he was second in command during the production of GoW2. Personally 3 was my favorite. And was the best one of the entire 6 games. I'm Glad that This is not only written but directed by Cory. God of War needed to grow up. This direction and change is far more exciting. People want a raging Kratos to go on killing God's in Norse...? What purpose should he have to do that after everything that happened in the last 6 games, why would he go hunt down God's of another mythology? Escaping the curse of of the Greeks and fleeing to start all over made the most sense especially if you really understood Kratos's back story. I'm here for this. And it looks damn good to boot. I'll tell you how much I enjoyed when I've played it. Btw... Cory taking those salty comments and throwing shade right back tells you he's a cool and collected guy with brains. If that were Jaffe, he'd have cursed a few times. I admire Grace in an industry that often invites much toxicity from the people who enjoy the very things these hard working developers curate.
Part 3 was the best to date imo, Ascension was the weaker one out of all of them
i really liked the 1st and 2nd maybe my words shouldn't be the weakest but compared to GOW 1-2 the 3rd game could have been so much more
You can't just not use a GOW game because it doesn't fit your criteria. GOW 3 blew me away in every way! For a game with an end it was great for a lot of games that have a poor endings in their franchise.
In my opinion Gow 3 is better than the 1st one but number 2 was the best. Ascension was not bad at all but unnecessary.
GOW 3 and GOW 2 are hard to compare but both of them are close to that number 1 spot. I never finished Ascension. It was a great game but like you said it was unnecessary and made me not want to play GOW anymore. Then I heard about a new GOW, I am like really I am tired of these. I see the first footage and I go... okay day one, you win this round Santa Monica!
What a chill funny guy he is.
"IGN has one of the most active comments sections on the Internet." Also one the most toxic. Only rivaled by YouTube, 4chan, Fox News, and Breitbart.
Pretty clear your political stances from the few sites you listed as toxic
Lmfaooooo. Did he offend you because he's liberal? Grow up! 😂
We see toxic, IGN sees money.
I can get it the games feel the same. 3rd person over the shoulder type of game. A concept that seems to be working well. Sony's 1ST party shares tech and information. So let these developers become experts on what is working well and then have them refine in the future. But how they feel is where I think the comparisons stop. They all have unique, different stories. Different themes. From Survival - TLOU, Treasure Hunter - Uncharted, Norse Mythology - God of War, and Post Apocalyptic Robotic Dinosaurs - Horizon Zero Dawn. This is all great stuff that has a track record of succeeding, not just by how they are played but by the stories that after told.
Can't stand children characters in video games. I know plenty of people loved TLOU, but Elle was just an annoying brat(IMO). I could see this also happening in the new God of War. Its fine if this type of game play mechanic is something the devs wanted and envisioned for the game, but it will turn some people off as well.
Not me I'm embracing this big time & welcoming little man!
«This is for you»...
I can see the concern with a lot of fans with this new GoW. It seems to be borrowing heavy from the whole TLoU concept, the over used, cliche parental angle to evoke some type of emotional attachment. Not to mention the 3rd person over the shoulder gameplay that seems to be extremely popular with a lot of the recent sony games. Playing it real safe with this sequel by imitating the other games of the same type.
Playing it safe by doing something the franchise hasn't done before.
Playing it safe by doing exactly what other franchises for Sony have done.
That reach. Reed Richards jealous now.
