Even with the X Microsoft is unable to gain ground on the 360. This really shows that the X hasn't done anything to help them gain market share.

Consumers clearly weren't drawn to the Microsoft brand by the idea of a more powerful console. It must be hard for them to have invested so heavily in the X to not even be able to gain ground on the 360 even though the market has grown significantly this generation.

The xbox one is a failure and the xbox one x is even a bigger failure. The xbox 360 is just a better system except for the hardware

Aenea273d ago

Nah, nonsense, it's not a failure, sold quite well, just not as well as the competition, doesn't mean it's a failure tho.

Concertoine273d ago (Edited 273d ago )

I remember when the 360's sales were deemed fake because of the red ring of death making everyone buy 4 consoles...

Now the Xbone is 2 million behind so "OMG a failure!"

Montrealien273d ago

Also if you think that the measure of success is only the sales of the Xbox Consoles, you don't understand the main goal of the Xbox. It's not the dominate consoles, it's to merge with the PC/Windows experience and as of now, the plan seems to being going along very well.

"I remember when the 360's sales were deemed fake because of the red ring of death making everyone buy 4 consoles... "

but I can also remember it clearly that xbox fanboys were strongly against that idea by saying "RRoD claims were covered by warranty and wasn't included in total sale numbers" too.

darthv72272d ago

@badz, while RRoD claims were covered by warranty... that didnt stop others from buying replacements anyway. some took advantage of the warranty repair while others just bought another one. It happens but what's happening now is every sale of an XBO is a legit sale because there is no RRoD for the system. So no padded numbers to speak of.

It really is doing well for itself in comparison to the previous xbox systems.

Pft ok... i love my x an im glad ms made it. Who cares about market share i love this system. Love ps4 too

gamingunited273d ago

"Who cares about market share"

Well just about every publisher and retail chain worldwide, but I guess as long as you personally don't care that's all that's important...

AmstradAmiga273d ago

Its not market share but the size of the install base that's important. How do they calculate market share anyway since most gamers own multiple platforms.

Montrealien273d ago

Well, Microsoft's market share is in reality measured with both Windows 10 and Xbox One.

gamingunited273d ago

Market share IS install base. It's the percentage of total units sold.

Total 126 million 100%

PS4 76 million 60% market share
Xbox 36 million 28% market share
Switch 14 million 11% market share

Montrealien271d ago

what's the Windows market share on PCs?

Great analysis. This your day job? Never mind I'm sure it is.

Jinger272d ago

I don't think the X is factored into this chart...

gamingunited272d ago

It's an extrapolation. If you look at the months prior to the X launch and now after the X launch you will see they are similarly behind 360 on a monthly basis. If the X had a significant sales impact you would see the xbone loss to the 360 decline or even increase over 360.

And the fact is that this article is just a comparison between the xbone and the 360, you could see the lack of increased market share using a variety of comparisons such as year over year of just the xbone or versus PS4.

The bottom line is the release of the X hasn't noticeably increased monthly unit sales of the xbone.

Just 36 million in almost 5 years🤔 I doubt it reaches 40 million by the end of this year.

PhoenixUp273d ago

I doubt the console will sell less than 4 million this year 😑

mkis007273d ago

I know its easy to rag on the system, but that estimation is not grounded in logic. The holidays alone will equal half that.

badz149273d ago

actually, there is not even any proof that the Xbone already sold 36mil.

at the rate that it was being outsold by the PS4 worldwide this whole time heavily suggested that the 2:1 ratio in favor of the PS4 is being too generous to the Xbone. I strongly believe Xbone is currently only around 30mil at most!

Weeblordbad272d ago

Based on...???? Feelings?

"Strongly believe" that's good for you.

FallenAngel1984272d ago

The Xbox One just turned four years old three months ago now you’re saying that’s close to “almost five years?”

PhoenixUp273d ago

Safe to say that no future Xbox console will ever sell more than Xbox 360, especially when Microsoft still struggles to produce exclusive system selling titles after 16 years in the industry

FallenAngel1984273d ago

Xbox 360 sales went into overdrive after Kinect and the slim model released in its fifth year while Xbox One has nothing like that to parallel.

gamingunited273d ago (Edited 273d ago )

"Xbox One has nothing like that to parallel"

Except ya know., that thing called the X and of course they have a Slim Xbone too.

And vgchartz only talks about the data from the past year in this write-up but the One has been losing ground to the 360 for the past 26 months. The decline started WAY before year 5 when the kinect or the Slim released.

FallenAngel1984273d ago

Those XO iterations already came out, not within the fifth year like 360’s slim model. That just shows the gap will increase dramatically in the same timeframe.
