Atari weathered the video game crash of 1977, brought on by the rampant theft and cloning of the wildly successful Pong. Then it all went horribly wrong.
This is the most hilariously negative version of Atari's history that I have ever read. Why do I get the impression that it might also be the most accurate?
Like with the last one I did on Nintendo, I didn't know any of this background stuff. But after reading dozens of interviews and old articles from when it all went down, the craziness the executives did was more interesting that the amazing and triumphant things the engineers did. I could definitely write a more positive story if I followed those guys. But if you follow the CEOs it's a shitshow.
