Blu-ray Player on the Cheap! $149 from Samsung

Even after the dust has settled between Blu-ray and HD-DVD, the prices for Blu-ray players and movies in particular, haven't gone down. Most decent Blu-ray players cost upwards of $500 and higher. Thankfully, Samsung may be coming to the rescue with its BD-P1500 Blu-ray player.

ZoomThe BP-P1500, which usually sells for $400, is reported to go on sale on Black Friday at a nice price point of $149.

According to Gizmodo, news of the sale hit consumer electronics retailer Ultimate Electronics.

Up until now, most consumers who opted to jump on the Blu-ray bandwagon went and bought Sony's PlayStation 3 console. With the PS3, not only could you play games and surf the Internet, you were able to rest at ease knowing that the PS3 was actually one of the best - if not the best - Blu-ray player on the market.

The PS3 is the best Blu-Ray player out there, the people at the Criterion Collection agree,

you tell that to mom and dad looking for a blu-ray player on a tight budget, they just want to watch HD movies, on their new HD set.

And criterion blu-rays are going to be crazy expensive, just like their DvDs. Best quality though. And i must be noted that they said that when the PS3 Blu-ray option was sill the least expenssive, things change quick.

lower priced Blu-Ray players are what is needed to help spur the sales of Blu-ray discs...

Although, it won't hurt to get the price of the actual movies down either!

lower priced blu-ray players, will also mean lower priced PS3's in the future..since Sony wouldnt wanna swindle sales away from their blu-ray partners they keep the prices on par with them @ $400

PS3 remains the best choice as a BD player simply because it is easily upgradeable.

I haven't checked but the early Samsungs (and this could be the model - I'm not sure now) do not support the latest BluRay standard - in particular I think they're limited on support for lossless audio formats like TrueHD or DTS-MA.

In fact some places were gicing away BD players with their HDTVs - but you guessed it, the old players which don't support the latest standard revision.

While the BD format is still evolving the PS3 is a safe bet - buy a cheaper/older one and you may find it limited.

First off, majority of blu ray players are poised to go sub $200 (not just that crappy samsung model)

With Black Friday coming up, people are going to go crazy over blu rays. Even the ps3 is gonna get a chunk of that. Just remember how many Hd DVD players sold on black friday last year. Granted, they were selling for $50. But with blu ray being the ONLY HD standard now, they're gonna skyrocket those sales like you wouldn't believe
