Will Rare’s Sea of Thieves be the new exclusive Xbox One desperately needs?

Sea of Thieves is an ambitious and risky bet for both Rare, the storeyed British studio behind its conception and design, and Microsoft Corp.’s Xbox division, which has long been in need of a winning new exclusive property to join its popular but aging Halo, Gears of War, and Forza franchises.

Sea of thieves will compliment the existing portfolio of Xbox exclusives and will also be the start of a reset year for Xbox exclusives to come in 2018 and beyond.

I think desperate in the fact sony has all the same games ms has plus much more. Esp in 2018... it cant be argued no matter who you like more, sony is gonna kill it in 2018.

Xb1 as far as the big releases you have sot, cd3, and yet to be announced with solid release dates sod, ashen, and forza.

Sony has crash, sotc, gow, spiderman, ni no kuni 2, and yet to be announced detroit become human, days gone, spiro, and possibly ghosts of t., or tlou 2.

sony isnt dropping all those games this year, we might get 3 if we are lucky

Nino-kuni 2 not a ps4 exclusive

@quent

"Nino-kuni 2 not a ps4 exclusive"

Yes, exactly. Because Ni No Kuni 2 releases on PS4 and PC. You could call it "console exclusive" if you wanted, but yes, you are correct.

So can you now admit, using that standard, that XBox has NO exclusives the entire year of 2018? Crackdown 3, Sea of Thieves, and Forza all are NOT exclusive because they also come to PC. (Assuming that one or more are not delayed and/or cancelled).

Wait... that renders the title of this article completely useless then... Because if Ni No Kuni 2 isn't exclusive, then Sea of Thieves (and all other games releasing on XBox in 2018) are not exclusives at all, and that is pretty bleak for XBox in 2018 regarding exclusive releases, not to mention if you were to consider every game coming out for Xbox in 2018 exclusives, it would still be a terrible lineup for the year, and get smashed by Sony and Nintendo either way.

Personally I think 2019 will be bigger.....XD

How is it exclusive? Isn't it on PC as well?

paintedgamer1984151d ago

Im sorry, console exclusive. It could be argued most games i named for xbox will prob be on pc... where 99% of the games i named for sony will only be on playstation...

Belinker300150d ago

maybelovehate151d ago

Who knows they said that about recore and quantum break and look what happened

paintedgamer1984151d ago (Edited 151d ago )

Exactly... the xbox dudes hyped quantum break and recore to high heavens... until they launched

Legacy212151d ago

Quantum break was fantastic

PFFT151d ago

Both of those games are great. BUT you wouldnt know that unless you try them, If you dont well youll only assume they suck. And you know what they say about assumptions.

quantum break was a good game actually

Tedakin151d ago (Edited 151d ago )

It's odd MS has an exclusives problem considering they own the entire Rare catalogue, plus games like Crimson Skies that they refuse to bring back. Killer Instinct is the only Rare they game they've properly brought back. Kameo was a good Rare game they never made a sequel to. What about Conker, Battletoads, Banjo Kazooie, anything?

Italiano1234567151d ago (Edited 151d ago )

I agree I'm not quite sure what Microsoft is thinking especially considering all the games Sony is bringing back for remasters and they're making a killing on them their focus seems to be more worried about backward compatibility than bringing back titles as remasters or something who the hell knows
